It's in Newport and lots of Bristol people are moving over there because they can't afford Bristol prices which will probably send the Newport prices shooting up!

MaizieD Thu 30-Mar-17 21:51:33

According to Cummings it was the NHS £350m that clinched it for Leave, Ab

MaizieD Thu 30-Mar-17 21:49:36

Where's that house, Jalima? It sounds about right for where we are in the NE, but then, house prices may be lower here but well paid jobs aren't plentiful.

Anniebach Thu 30-Mar-17 20:03:00

The NHS was certaintly important in the referendum campaign

whitewave shock I suppose it depends on the area

3 bedroom Semi-detached house from £169,995
Stunning home with a spacious kitchen and living room with French doors to the rear garden. There is also a downstairs cloakroom and under stairs cupboard. Upstairs are 3 bedrooms, with master bedroom benefitting from its own en suite shower room. Allocated parking completes this home.

Well there you have it-some are using foodbanks, surviving on zero hours contracts or the minimum wage, whilst others are spending £800 on a meal for two

Sadly this is the way it has always been and will always be, no matter which party is in power trisher sad

NHS didn't get a mention under Brexit.

Education and NHS improved greatly under the last labour government

whitewave Thu 30-Mar-17 14:49:25

My nephew was born in 1991 so started school at the end of the Tory government which had been in power from about 1989. His school had previously sold off the playing field, had buckets in the classroom to catch the rain From the ceiling and mould up the walls.

My sister was telling me yesterday, that the improvement once Labour became the government was rapid and impressive. Investment in our children's future was ongoing with a plan for school building renewal. This was cut as soon as the Tories came to office.

Exactly the same happened to the NHS and welfare service, all in the name we were told of reducing our deficit.

So now we have a failing NHS, none existent social care, schools in crises and a huge deficit. I wonder what else they are planning?

Who believes that the Tories can be depended to manage the economy?

whitewave Thu 30-Mar-17 14:39:09

And this from the 6th richest country.

daphnedill Thu 30-Mar-17 14:37:44

The problem with that is that parents in wealthier areas will no doubt contribute, but what about those in more challenging areas, where parents can't afford donations or just don't care?

My children's former school (a state comp) asks for cash donations when the pupils start. The recommended donation is £50 a year. They prefer standing orders!

whitewave Thu 30-Mar-17 14:12:33

Local East Sussex primary - parents sending in toilet rolls, pencils, rubbers, selatape etc etc -school run out of cash. This is intended to be on going now and they are keeping bins for donations rather like food bank donations.

Anniebach Thu 30-Mar-17 08:56:34

that will save the homeless

In the meantime, Philip Hammond's business gets a cut in business rates.

Roads reaching third world levels of repair.

Just watching an article on the local news. A young working family who go to work and school in Hove were evicted by a private landlord, after the council declared the flat they were renting in was inhabitable -extreme damp, mushrooms growing etc. They were homeless and the only place available for them was a hostel place in Eastbourne which is 25 miles from Hove. So every day the family have to travel all those miles to take the primary age children to school and work. The council are hoping somewhere nearer becomes available.

A 3bedroomed terrace house which would have been a good first buy at one time near me is up for sale for 367500.00. Deposit minimum 36750.00. Mortgage 1750pm.

God almighty!!

Does the refugee crisis count as a crisis in social care?

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/mar/26/destitute-syrian-asylum-seekers-fear-deportation

I know it makes me feel ashamed that we treat human beings this way, when they have fled from awful circumstances and are now destitute.

durhamjen Mon 27-Mar-17 12:16:20

The Tory way of governance; hand the railways over to anyone but the British.

This is what it is like to be young and living in poverty.

Tories don't seem to want to tell us, trisher.
Some good news.

www.24housing.co.uk/news/uc-policy-to-be-reversed-for-homeless-families/

A shame they had to wait this long to realise that making families homeless costs more - and that it's down to cost, rather than sentiment.

trisher Mon 27-Mar-17 10:09:02

Why are Scotland and Wales so much more caring than the English? How come we have been saddled with this Tory government ?

JessM Sun 26-Mar-17 21:42:57

Have to say that in Wales we are, to some extent, insulated from Tory awfulness.
No free schools, no academies, no threat of grammar schools, no doctor's strike, no more right to buy. We've re-organised the ambulance service so that response times are improving.
We've even started building council houses again.
Lucky to have the only Labour government in the UK.

Ginny42 Sun 26-Mar-17 21:41:59

I should have said failing social and economic construct, by which I mean the vast gap between the rich and poor. The rich in the UK keeping the poor poor.
