Labour now

What these people have to say about Labour as it is now struck cords with me.

Peter Hurst (@peterleohurst)
'Blue labour types' right about 1thing: many trad Labour voters more conservative than many third wayers/centrists care to acknowledge.
2. That conservatism with a small 'c' includes things like loving the royal family and being proud of being British. Social dems might not
3. win via 'riding the tiger of nationalism' but they wont win via the old 'New' Labour formulation either. The 5 million voters lost
4. During the years 1997-2010 are not going to return to a party that is, in effect, the lib dems in drag Iain. prospectmagazine.co.uk/magazine/labou…

I have noticed that Westminster does appear to believe that the only function of the north is to reliably vote Labour. And we don't now.
For as long as UKIP, the Labour left and fringe batshittery is the only alternative to Lab up here the Tories will clean up.
'Why would working class people vote Tory'. Because they cant vote Labour and the alternative is UKIP. In a nutshell.
One of the striking things about the left is this shock at working class tories, and working class people who dont want their revolution.

The photo is Hurst's Twitter profile. What it says seems well put too.

Sigh - do you really want me to say, dhurjamjen? Just in the hope of humiliating and mocking me?

Chewbacca Sun 26-Feb-17 18:33:16

I'm number 3.

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 18:32:53

Who are your definitely labour, Ana?

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 18:31:55

Definitely Tory - 1
Definitely Labour - 9
Libdem/floaters or unclear - 10

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 18:31:12

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 18:12:43

Oh dear, I'm going to have to count them now...

I'll have to group them into Definitely Labour/Definitely Tory/Could be either

I may be some time...

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 18:09:40

It still makes just two posters, Ana. 50 posts from me makes three posters. 100 from Annie just makes four posters. Have I made my point or are you going to argue about that?

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 18:07:32

There you go again, Annie, calling Corbyn a liar.
Isn't it time you actually called it a day and started supporting the labour party on here?

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 18:07:25

I thought roses was a LibDem supporter...

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 18:05:45

POGS.

"Actually I think you need to do a 'recount' as to how many posts on this thread are from Tories, especially when you conclude posts are 'Mainly from Tories'."

YOU said posts, not posters. That's the difference.
50 posts from you just makes one poster. 50 posts from roses still makes two posters.
As for the rest, CBA, it was too long ago, I can't be bothered to look back at what I said and you said, etc., etc., etc.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 26-Feb-17 17:56:15

17:45:05 That is a lie; an untruth. He tripped up when speaking and made a joke about it Ana. He obviously knew the difference perfectly well. The truth will win over your fantasies in the end you know.

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 17:52:36

I did try to listen to his speech but when he said Tam was a close friend I immediately remembered - I have to sit on the floor of the train because there are no seats. This is the trouble with telling lies, one is left with - truth or lie ?

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 17:45:05

Yes, it was a very interesting speech GracesGranMK2, in that Corbyn obviously doesn't even know the difference between the SNP and the Scottish Labour Party...hmm

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 17:39:35

Yes Rosesarered, when he said yesterday he was not leaving untill the job is done , it was so obvious , he sees his dream coming true

rosesarered Sun 26-Feb-17 17:19:43

Corbyn will hang on until the bitter end......and it will certainly be a bitter end for Labour.

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 14:13:53

When asked who would take over from Corbyn the answer is obvious, one of the small group who support him , well claim to support him .

No I do not agree you were not referring to posters.

"Most people on here are not Labour voters. Most of them are Tories and really enjoy the labour baiting. Do you wish to deny them that little bit of enjoyment?"

'Most people on here' denotes posters engaged in this thread!

As for your question to myself re the Clive Lewis link I am not sure what to say as I agree with some of it such as:-

"But the former shadow business secretary, said: “It is not good enough what has happened in Copeland.”√

I felt a lot of it was defending Corbyn , no surprise there as Lewis is known to be an MP who backs Corbyn's Leadership. Plenty of other MP's are saying things in a different vein so links could be equally raised that would say the opposite.

I remember the upset Lewis expressed when he was Shadow Defence Secretary and his 'Trident Speech' was altered at short notice by Seamus Milne. Lewis was moved to Shadow Business Secretary shortly afterwards in Corbyn's Cabinet Reshuffle and replaced by Nia Griffith's.

Lewis was obviously not pleased with Corbyn over the triggering Article 50 and resigned from the Shadow Cabinet.

Is he on manoeuvres to become Labour Leader? Some say yes some say no but only time will tell. At least for the moment he is doing as expected and standing up for his Leader so well done for that but to be honest I have watched Clive Lewis on various media outlets and I'm not so sure he is not playing 'a waiting game' but saying all the 'right things' in the meantime as the Corbyn 'Inner Circle' have more clout than the PLP.

It's not a case of 'Keeping your enemies closer' more I know 'Which spoons to grease'. Obviously just my opinion but you did ask.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 26-Feb-17 13:33:06

Corbyn is making a really interesting speech at the Scottish Conference.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 26-Feb-17 13:01:51

I think it is still there although I have a feeling some of the old buildings were removed. Terry's at Bishopthorpe is now flats called "The Chocolate Works". Another bit of York's history disappearing.

I worked in the otherwise empty Terry's building while waiting for our newly formed Quango to move into it's new offices. It was an amazing bit of Victorian architecture and such a pity it is no longer there.

trisher Sun 26-Feb-17 12:59:46

Oh was it Terry's probably- get the 2 confused.

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 12:49:59

Isn't Rowntrees factory still there?
We moved in 2009, and it was there then. Are you thinking of the Terry's factory? That closed in 2005, while we were living in York.
We used to have one of the chocolatiers staying with us, and he was developing new products. We tasted quite a few samples, although I never buy Nestle products myself.

trisher Sun 26-Feb-17 12:35:54

I didn't know that about Trotsky either dj. My mum lived in York briefly when my brother was living just outside. The factory was just about to close. Small world!

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 12:34:33

I thought that as well, Gracesgran. Not many people keep him on track. Shami Chakrabarti managed to score a few points over Marr, too. She got a promise of more Labour women MPs on the programme.

What happened to the Whigs, daphne? What did they become?

Has anyone else seen anything about the fact that a third of the rural Copeland polling stations had power cuts last Thursday?

Anniebach Sun 26-Feb-17 12:28:55

You must a lot of time cringing Daphne

daphnedill Sun 26-Feb-17 12:25:05

I cringe whenever I see terms such as Kippers, Bliarites, illegals, etc etc.

By the way, I brought this up previously and you claimed that it was no worse than calling somebody a Tory. The Tories was the official name of a political party until the Great Reform Act and the Corn Laws, when the changed their name to Conservative, because they wanted to conserve things as they were.
