Open Britain - Hard Brexit

The realities of what a hard Brexit could mean are beginning to collide with the breezy rhetoric of Leave campaigners. Already – before negotiations have even begun – totemic promises are being broken.

We were told there would be £350 million more a week for the NHS, but Leave campaigners are desperate to run away from this promise, and borrowing estimates have risen by £58bn thanks to Brexit.
We were told economic warnings were “scaremongering”, but prices have risen as the pound has fallen and car companies are speculating about shifting investment abroad.

We were told the EU would bend over backwards to give us the deal we want, but Ministers are now talking up the prospect of leaving with no deal at all.
And we were told our Union would be stronger, but today we see the SNP once again fostering grievance to threaten the break up of the UK.

We can’t let those who led the country down this road escape from the broken promises they made. Please share our graphic on Twitter and Facebook to hold them to account.

Thank you,

The above was pasted from an Email received a hour or so ago - you can Google "Open Britain" if you feel strongly enough. I genuinely believe that Brexit could well unravel over the coming months as the truth strikes home. I will leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Perhaps we could get back to the subject in hand.

rosesarered Wed 29-Mar-17 19:03:35

Had enough yet?

rosesarered Wed 29-Mar-17 19:03:11

And I still have screenshots of your PM to me dd where you told me you were pm ing it as putting it on public view would get you into trouble with GN so you felt free to insult me privately..........KAPOW!

durhamjen Wed 29-Mar-17 19:02:24

Not just EU citizens that are bargaining chips.

KAPOW!!

daphnedill Wed 29-Mar-17 18:52:41

Ah yes! Now I wonder who it was that told me that GN maybe wasn't the site for me, that I wouldn't be welcome at GN meets and that my posts were the cause of peple not posting.

I still have the screenshots, but I believe it would be breaking the rules to post them. I'm sure you agree rosesarered.

daphnedill Wed 29-Mar-17 18:50:12

Jalima You're a bit one-sided with your criticism.hmm

whitewave Wed 29-Mar-17 18:49:26

I think Brexit and Trump has made everyone think twice, and rightly so.

durhamjen Wed 29-Mar-17 18:40:40

Denmark's far right faction has not taken Denmark out of the EU, though, has it?
At least other EU countries have been frightened off making the far right their governments. Something to thank Brexit for.

rosesarered Wed 29-Mar-17 17:55:42

Exactly Jalima I bet none of us ever even give EDL or BNP a thought, and actually Denmark does have a far right faction, as have most EU countries.I can't imagine anyone French saying they are ashamed of their own country, and they don't feel French.

rosesarered Wed 29-Mar-17 17:51:49

Yup, back from wandering around Oxford now, feet up but mission for DD's clothes a success.
No, nothing jokey about any of your posts to anyone on any thread Rigby

Jalima Wed 29-Mar-17 17:50:29

No-one has run to GNHQ Rigby but they do keep an eye on threads.

nigglynellie Wed 29-Mar-17 17:49:17

Can't say I've ever detected anything even remotely jokey about any of your comments Rigby!!

Jalima Wed 29-Mar-17 17:49:04

It's 5.30pm Rigby perhaps roses is back from shopping now, home in time for dinner.

some people have a rather strange sense of what is 'jokey'.

Rigby46 Wed 29-Mar-17 17:47:36

Jalima well the worst and rudest posts I've seen recently here where on the thread about the march- you lot were all at it but none of us ran to HQ did we?

Jalima Wed 29-Mar-17 17:45:48

Again, if you want to be associated with the English Defence League, do carry on. Or United Kingdom Independence Party. Or Britain First.

My daughters in law love their own countries. My grandchildren's other grandparents are from those countries

You can love England without having the slightest association with the EFL or UKIP - just as your DIL can love their own countries without being associated with any far-right groups in either of those countries.

Your two statements appear to be a contradiction in terms djen.

Rigby46 Wed 29-Mar-17 17:45:04

Can = can't - must preview more

Rigby46 Wed 29-Mar-17 17:43:24

Oh FGS -*roses*. You say you are going out for the day, then you post, I refer to what you said jokily and this is interpreted as telling you to stop posting??????? Anyone would think you were easily upset - you who wished it would rain on the March? Dish it out but can take it? Might almost want to use the word snowflake

Jalima Wed 29-Mar-17 17:42:16

Who said "bugger off" and where is the so called diatribe about English?
'Being English' could be the other thread whitewave - although there are several threads and I am getting confused which is which.

And, trying to look at it fairly impartially, I would say that telling someone to for god's sake bloody well give up or telling someone that they hope not to hear your views for a few hours is really rather rude (to put it in an understated 'English' kind of way).

Everyone is entitled to a viewpoint as Mette kindly pointed out.

petra Wed 29-Mar-17 17:41:06

When we applied for residency in another country ( outside the eu) we literally had the papers thrown back at us. This was happening to a lot of other people. Then someone in the immigration office left his post and set up a business filling in all our forms, job done ( and no sweeteners either)
I can't believe no one in this country isn't thinking of doing this.

durhamjen Wed 29-Mar-17 17:39:02

Again, if you want to be associated with the English Defence League, do carry on. Or United Kingdom Independence Party. Or Britain First.

My daughters in law love their own countries. My grandchildren's other grandparents are from those countries. I am not going to tell my grandchildren that England is better than Spain and Denmark, and make them feel as if I do not care about their other relatives.

I watched May giving her article 50 speech. All that making Britain great again made me feel sad, like Barnier looked.
A brighter future for this country, and to make everything fair again?
That could have happened without leaving the EU. Perhaps she ought to start off with the benefits system, to make things fair for those having their benefits cut.

rosesarered Wed 29-Mar-17 17:33:58

I could say the same for you ww as you didn't read durhamjens post on being English.
Nobody said 'bugger off' but the posts by durhamjen and Rigby were telling me not to post, which is why Mette stepped in.Clear now?

whitewave Wed 29-Mar-17 17:30:09

rose what on earth are you on about? You seem not to read or hear stuff right in front of you, and yet seem to hear and read stuff that isn't there.

Who said "bugger off" and where is the so called diatribe about English?

Modifying your language makes for a much better interchange of opinions you know, without jumping in as you did.

durhamjen Wed 29-Mar-17 17:25:31

I am not extremist. My comments are not repugnant. What is repugnant is people from EU countries being treated, after all this time of us being in the EU, as if they are bargaining chips.
