About an hour ago, I switched the tv on and sat down with a glass of wine after seeing my toddler grandsons and their 4 parents off, after a hectic family meal. The channel was showing an appeal for the starving children in East Africa. Having just seen my chubby toddler grandsons dancing and laughing together, I found it very difficult not to weep at the sight of the little one's on the tv screen, ribs showing, lying there almost to weak to cry.
I sent a donation immediately. We have regular donations to specific charities and always respond to crises like the current one. I don't send money to animal charities but I do volunteer for a specific dog breed rescue.
Honestly, I've found some comments here so cold it shocks me. I understand the frustration about the huge amounts of money our overseas aid, as well as the generosity of people individually in this country, whilst little seems to change. I share the anger about men causing wars, particularly the religious factions whose behaviour is beyond understanding. We are all warm, none of us is going really hungry, how can we turn away from fellow humans who are dying?
So sad I’ve nearly finished last Jilly Cooper
