I didn't vote for Watson in the deputy leadership contest, don't think him a good deputy but in fairness one needs to remember who he is deputy to.

My money is on the same order again with perhaps the Conservatives and Greens swapped round. The Greens were second in 2015.

Gerald Kaufman had a 28,000 majority (probably LD students) in 2015, but I bet that's considerably reduced.

It is a big ask to expect the LibDem candidate to win in Gorton, as Gerald Kaufman had a huge majority, but George Galloway's intervention should take votes from former Labour supporters, especially those who voted for Brexit. This constituency was 62% for Remain, and the LibDems are standing up for them.

The Liberal Democrat's candidate Jackie Pearcey served as a Councillor in Manchester Gorton for over 20 years.

She says “Manchester Gorton deserves a local champion to stand up for our community against Theresa May’s hard Brexit plans, against the wishes of local people. Labour can’t stand up for us whilst they’re too busy arguing amongst themselves in Westminster and supporting the Tories on Brexit. Galloway never sells himself short does he. The speech setting out his candidacy could have been a Trump speech. Galloway is another cold narcissist, untrustworthy and lacking a moral compass, other than his own world view of course. Let's hope he doesn't win Gorton.

Galloway is a Trump supporter. Trump and Arron Banks are buddies. Maybe that's why the news broke on Banks' website. Don't forget Galloway has a TV programme on Russia Today.The plot thickens.

Riverwalk The difference is that Gorton is a strange constituency. It has Manchester Uni's main halls of residence and quite a few young professionals. It's a very young constituency and voted Remain.

Apparently George Galloway announced that he would stand in Gorton on an alt-right wesbsite.

There is labour and there is Corbyn, most labour MP's are not working with momentum, the Corbynites are. Corbyn is leader of the Labour Party by the power of Momentum

Notwithstanding the huge Labour majority, Galloway could pull it off - he's done it before in Bradford and Bethnal Green.

He's a rabble-rouser and attracts a lot of media attention.

Obviously I'm not sure Labour will win , nobody knows, it was a guess.

If I were to put a bet on I would back Sam Wheeler or Julie Reed .

If either of them get the nomination then I will probably hold a different view on Galloway/Corbyn but if it is one of the candidates that backed Burnham in the Leadership Election then I will watch this space with interest.

To be honest I don 't know what to say to that.

I don't know what you mean, annie. Momentum's membership has fallen. It's likely that a Corbyn supporter (can't remember his name) will be selected. I'll ask DD, but I don't think Momentum and Labour are working separately. The local CLP was suspended some months ago as a result of the infighting. If Labour loses, it will be a Corbyn protege's loss.

But...at least half the locals support Man City, not Man U. They're more likely to throw stones at a Matt Busby wannabe than vote for him.
