Quoting breaking news in the Guardian. Davis is quoted as saying...

“The government is clear in its aims: a deal that works for every nation and region of the UK and indeed for all of Europe – a new, positive partnership between the UK and our friends and allies in the European Union.”

Feeling a bit in shock at those words, as at no time have I felt they are at all clear in their aims. The regions of the UK are disaparate with very different needs and fears. The nations of the UK have very different views of what is best for them, Scotland in particular being very forthright in stating their opposition to what is planned. Finally, what can he possibly mean by a deal that is good for all of Europe? Is he cynically saying EU members will be glad to see the back of us?

This was years ago. Yes, I think they still make them, how on earth would you make Charlotte Russe without them shock

durhamjen Sun 02-Apr-17 17:43:06

Boudoir biscuits? Do they still make those, or have they gone the way of pink wafers?

durhamjen Sun 02-Apr-17 17:41:48

Because some people think it's important, particularly all the other 27 EU countries.

Jalima Sun 02-Apr-17 17:40:52

I would just have thrown the packet of boudoir biscuits to the apes.

nigglynellie Sun 02-Apr-17 17:40:31

Whether Mrs May had mentioned it or not wouldn't have made a hapeoth of difference as the Spanish PM had been twisting the EU's arm for months over this question. Why should she mention Gib any more than any other part of the UK and its territories?

durhamjen Sun 02-Apr-17 17:39:21

He's actually written a book called The Bad Boys of Brexit.
I bet the electoral commission could do with reading it.
Actually called Arron. I suppose it ensures we pronounce it properly.

rosesarered Sun 02-Apr-17 17:37:48

??Jalima yes, it can be very hot, but that's why people want to live there. Nobody is forced to go up and see the apes, and tourists are constantly warned not to take any food items with them ( or the apes may frisk them for bananas) grin

whitewave Sun 02-Apr-17 17:35:24

There was a market that sold a lot of Spanish linen.

Are you on the right threadwelsh or just bored with the way this is going grin

Welshwife Sun 02-Apr-17 17:34:08

I loved it too! But I did not like the apes - thought they were horrible.

durhamjen Sun 02-Apr-17 17:34:03

You could learn to spell it properly, roses.

I agree about Aaron Banks, the UK's trump. He can buy what he wants, and take the money away when you don't agree.

Jalima Sun 02-Apr-17 17:31:45

Sorry - I must say I liked it! And I still use the lovely tablecloth I bought there.

Welshwife Sun 02-Apr-17 17:31:38

That Aaron Banks is a worrying individual!

rosesarered Sun 02-Apr-17 17:30:21

Right, so this has now turned into a 'let's diss Gibralter because we can't think of anything else to say ' has it? grin

Jalima Sun 02-Apr-17 17:30:04

They are awful, we saw a young German woman being accosted by one, he was after the biscuits she had in her bag for her little boy. We were saying - 'just give him the biscuits' (my German is very limited) but she didn't want to!

whitewave Sun 02-Apr-17 17:27:09

They frighten me!! Nasty grasping things.

durhamjen Sun 02-Apr-17 17:26:23

5,000 inhabitants per square kilometre, whitewave. Not enough room to wave a flag, whether UK or Spanish.

Jalima Sun 02-Apr-17 17:22:44

whitewave shock
The Gibraltarians must love it or they wouldn't stay!!

And who would lay claim to those Barbary Macaques?

durhamjen Sun 02-Apr-17 17:19:39

Yes, I did see it, niggly. I also saw Eddie Mair say that he was surprised that Gibraltar wasn't mentioned in the article 50 letter so May didn't think it was that important.
With a population of less than 30,000 do you really think May is going to let her hard Brexit be derailed by an argument over Gibraltar? I don't think so.

whitewave Sun 02-Apr-17 17:17:21

Mind you in my opinion Spain is welcome to it. Hot dusty and noisy. Plus ridiculously tiny and overcrowded.

rosesarered Sun 02-Apr-17 17:15:38

Yes, durhamjen several times. The whole place is as British ( or more so if that is possible) than the UK.We had friends that lived there, sadly dead now, who loved it.And no,I did not poll complete strangers in the street, but did get to meet a lot of people over the years.

Jalima Sun 02-Apr-17 17:15:36

DN works there frequently, I would have to ask him as I know nothing as Manuel would say.

whitewave Sun 02-Apr-17 17:15:06

I heard it and as I've been to Gibraltar that definately makes me an expert. My bet it will end up joint ownership. Day to day it would make not a blind bit of difference. I thought his argument about joint ownership was plain daft.

I was there for the 20th anniversary celebrations. smile

Fitzy54 Sun 02-Apr-17 17:12:57

DJ what will actually happen is anyone's guess. Obviously no war, but this issue could, conceivably, gum up any sort of sensible, soft Brexit deal that might be on the cards.

durhamjen Sun 02-Apr-17 17:11:21

It must do, whitewave.
