Of all the threads on GN, that this particular one has descended into accusations against other members or reporters operating in an emergency situation, Brexit or Junker or Scotland/Wales is to be deeply regretted in my view.

Respect to all directly affected by this act of terrorism.

I am a Londoner and can't believe the tone of this thread. Talk about puerile and nasty. We know we are a target for nutters of several persuasions, we should support the security services who have done a great job for many years. But guess what it won't stop people going to work, going out to bars and restaurants and getting on with life. Just like Paris and Brussels. Yes it's scary, but the terrorists won't win.

There was a so called "expert" who named him on screen Jalima He also showed footage of the "guilty" man. Who apparently had a long string of terrorist offenses behind him and was the right hand man of a couple of real nasties. Then later on the same "expert" came back in screen and retracted the entire story. Shocking really. Apparently the (wrongly) named man is still in prison.

Several arrests been made this morning according to my news update. Let's hope they find whoever was behind this pdq. Sadly the will be a lot more where he came from.

Agree suzied they can't be allowed to win and yes the security services do a wonderful job. Goodness knows what goes on that we don't even get yo know about.

I agree with you Ginny and Suzied, there are posts on this thread that are, at best irrelevant, and at worst disgraceful.

Ignore those posts they are an irrelevance, and puerile beyond belief. Treat them as you would a truculent teenager.

Our thoughts must be with the relatives of those who have died or been seriously injured, and be thankful for our police force and security agencies who think nothing of putting their lives in danger in order that we may walk and talk freely in this country.

I was struck by what what's his name on ITV said this morning, when he indicated that the image of "British democracy" was being flashed throughout the world, and how people must think it is under threat. I disagree. Our way of life is in our hearts and minds. No-one can threaten that. In fact I think that the result of such attrocities is usually to reinforce belief in our way of life.

I agree whitewave and, despite its faults, our way of life is something to be cherished and protected.

PRINTMISS I echo those thoughts and thoughts are also with the staff at the hospitals where the injured are being treated.

I am outraged, yes outraged that the BBC are saying that 4 people have died. Should he (the evil b*st*rd that he is) be even mentioned in the same breath as a brave police officer and 2 other innocent victims?

.....and all of those poor injured people. So sad.

Far too much news IMHO, people who did not know what had happened to their relatives would be watching the news and seeing the most awful stuff.

We don't need to see it wall to wall coverage, giving terrorists free publicity and invading the national psyche non stop.

It was appalling, news readers prattling on about nothing.

Far better to have some sober news coverage later, when there is something to report and better later when the kids aren't subjected to it all.

We don't need this outrage made into viewing hours. I am so disappointed at the lack of restraint shown.

I am a London girl and worked there through the IRA campaigns, just as horrific and random, it is something we have to cope with to the best of our abilities.

I was proud to see the way in which the emergency services reacted, but really, a junior doctor listing a man's inuries is a step too far.

I hope all the emergency service personnel are awarded some recognititon in the summer civic awards instead of vaccuous pop stars and faux fashion designers.

There was such heroism shown, I felt humbled.

I agree with all the recent previous posts. Proud to be a Londoner of 40+ years' standing . No amount of evil can stifle our way of life in a democratic, civilised and tolerant society. ( Have ignored the rants). Thoughts and prayers for the dead, injured and those directly involved. Great respect for those in the front line.

My daughter works very near the attack. She is frightened to go home on the Tube.

We feel too much coverage it must be awful for relatives we all care and are thoughts are with families but the reporters are prattling on most of time trying to fill time .

One idiot thought he'd show off. Maybe there was a political motivation. He didn't 'penetrate the Palace of Westminster'. He attacked a policeman whose main function was to advise tourists. Then security did its job, apparently very effeciently. A terrible incident, but not 'London under siege'.

This is a terrible human tragedy for those who have lost loved ones and my thoughts are with their families and friends. I am also concerned about the amount of media coverage-surely giving the oxygen of publicity to these events only gives the perpetrators what they want? Some of the questioning was intrusive yet banal. "How do you feel" to stunned bystanders was a damn stupid question. I couldn't watch the coverage as they struggled to fill airtime with very little. It felt disrespectful to me.

I wouldn't describe the deliberate murder of 3 innocent people and the life changing injuries of many others "showing off" ExaltedWombat I would call it an act of pure evil. He can "show off" in hell now though! Also considering the arrests that have been made today he might be the tip of the iceberg and just a small part in a very big and nasty wheel.

I'm so glad I'm in hospital with very little media.. DH has just visited saying that the BBC in particular was wallowing and loving every minute of the disaster. It made him feel sick that the re-reporting over and over again was voyeueristic.

Is a worry for us all but many of us went through this with the IRA. We used to live near Woolwich Town, where the young soldier was killed a few years ago. Back in the 70's we were woken up in the night by a bomb going off. It was a pub opposite the army headquarters. One young man who lost his leg.

My daughter works in the City I try not let her see my stress, she was in Milton Keynes when this incident happened but often goes to Westminster on business.
We must I am afraid think about the other cities in the uk we are all at risk.
Thinking of the people who died and were injured and to our ambulance service and police who were there pretty promptly within about 10 minutes so I heard.

Why was it necessary to have reporters in the area this morning? They were some way from the attack and there is nothing to see and nothing to more to learn - just non-interviews and what seemed to me 'space fillers'. The update from the Deputy Commissioner was all the information we need at the moment - he was clear and to the point and told us as much as he was able.
