Question Debate Monday 27th Evening BBC1

Someone said that the Brexit lot knew that they would never win the economic argument as the facts were not on their side, so they concentrated on immigration, rubbished "facts" and such like.

I was reading an article about the word "again". Apparently the marketing people reckoned the word made all the difference, because it appealed to nostalgia. Trump did the same with "Make America great again". It's no coincidence that some of the same people were involved in campaigning.

They knew that the people most likely to vote for Leave were the elderly, who looked back with rosy tinted spectacles. At least some of us on here proved them wrong. It's just a shame we were in the minority.

They knew that the referendum would be won with hearts not minds, because people aren't persuaded by facts (and the facts weren't on the Leave side anyway), so deliberately targeted emotions. Hence the denigration of experts. I think this age should be labelled "The End of the Enlightenment".

I didn't watch it for the same reason,*gangy5*. But I have since heard Nick Clegg on a couple of radio programmes and it's good to hear him talking sense on a subject he knows very well. I also have a lot of time for Keir Starmer who represents the Labour Party on Brexit. I'm glad Labour have an articulate spokesman because their leader is still mysteriously quiet about the whole fiasco.

I didn't watch this for one reason. There is nothing to discuss as no decisions have been made yet. At this point, all is supposition. I guess it was one and a half hours of cotton wool!

David Davis was untruthful on a couple of points. I couldn't believe what I was hearing!!

Suzanne whatsername needs to put a sock in it, she kept talking over other people.

I did think the Labour guy, Keir something, made sense too. He said leaving was a very bad idea, but if we had got stuck with it we should try to get the best terms we can. And that we, the people, should have the final word on any negotiations.

But then, I have never understood the Leave position. Take Back Control (which we never lost), and Johnson and Davis do what they like? Stop immigration, and lose all our NHS and care workers?
"Britain will be Great again" ! Yeah, right.

Agree Nick Clegg, seemed to be the only one who had anything worthwhile to say. He comes across as honest ,sincere & pretty astute .

I totally agree with you Cindersdad . Nick Clegg spoke for so many of us who are being totally ignored.

None of the Leavers on the panel could justify what is about to happen.
