What about our priorities and the status of UK citizens in 27 other countries!
Why doesn't Starmer hold another referendum?
As an arch REMOANER I for one (of many) will not simply roll over and say that is that. As things progress at the very least parliament must ensure that the country does not Brexit in a bad way because of "The Will of the People". So many lies were told by both side at the time of referendum that when the full facts come to light a re-think should be considered.
I have yet to hear a sound reason for voting LEAVE. Of course the EU is far from perfect but we are better trying to change it from within than sniping from outside. A general election or second referendum before the point of absolute no return.
I happen to be visiting Brussels on an educational trip after Easter so until then I will put up and shut up unless really provoked.
What about our priorities and the status of UK citizens in 27 other countries!
The EU27 has sorted out its priorities, and the first one is the status of EU citizens here and abroad.

Unfortunately, Theresa May cannot respond because she has called an election.

Banks moving jobs because of Brexit.
I think POGS that it is true that you cannot blame Brexit for all the problems of a post-industrial society where, in essence, there are too many people and not enough jobs. What you can say, is that in times of huge economic uncertainty when the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, Brexit is a major distraction and leaving a large market on the doorstep of the UK, for a massively uncertain future is a very bad idea.
I mentioned Macron visiting the Whirlpool Factory at Amien previously but this is an interesting statement he made.
“Banning the payment of dividends or forbidding a company from closing a site it has decided to close is not possible, would even be counterproductive,” he said. “Why? Because there is a freedom of enterprise and free property in our democracy,” he said. "So on that, I won’t bring an answer because it’s not true. If I do that, no one will come invest in France,” he explained."

Why mention this? What point am I making?
I get fed up with the single minded view, every angle that can be 'used' to blame Brexit , is used without any credence there is another possible / feasable answer or line of thought.
I am playing Devils Advocate really.
Bloomberg is tracking banking companies after Brexit.

Also the fact that any financial group that wants to be in the EU ought to move its head office to the EU. It just makes sense.
No, petra, I did not forget to mention that BNP Paribas are cutting jobs in France and Luxembourg as well as the uk. And, that they started to cut jobs in May 2016, one month before the referendum. That was not my point. I believe DB, BNP, etc are leaving for many reasons related to profits, not Brexit. Wages, costs, etc are causing moves to lower cost countries.
Cadbury's happened before Brexit. Nobody is blaming what happened at Cadbury's and Kraft on Brexit.
It is therefore pointless to bring up Cadbury's in this context.
"FROM your archive on May 23, 2016, under a headline “Boris Johnson in York: Cheers and jeers as Brexit battlebus comes to town”, The Press reported: “He also claimed Brexit would benefit York manufacturers such as confectioners Nestlé and Tangerine, who he said would still be able to export to Europe and the rest of the world while no longer being subject to the diktats of remote, unelected officials in Brussels.”
Care to ring him and ask about the latest Nestlé job losses?"
From a letter in the York Press.
A pointless post is a post which doesn't Include a link to a blog or a thing called voxpox
NfkDumpling
It's only pointless because it doesn't back up their view of things. But I'm sure you knew that
Didn't seem pointless to me. Just logically pointing out that not everything bad can be placed a the door of Brexit as Remainers seem to like to do.
Big companies make money by moving factories to where production is cheaper at that time, in the same way as big banks do by moving money around to catch good interest rates. It's been happening for years, but at present Brexit is getting the blame.
What was the point of POGS mentioning Cadbury's? She herself said that they cut jobs before the referendum and Brexit.
No point in responding to pointless posts.
Norah
Did you forget to mention that BNP Paribas are cutting jobs in France and Luxembourg as well as the uk.
And, that they started to cut jobs in May 2016, one month before the referendum.
Perhaps they had a crystal ball as to which way the vote would go.

Don't hold your breath. Some posters think they are the only ones who read stuff.
Then it comes back to bite them.
No comment from anyone about the last post from POGS? All quiet on the Western Front.Of course anything and everything is being blamed on Brexit, and there could well be some job losses because firms need to be in EU countries, but firms relocate mainly for costs, they can do things more cheaply in Eastern Europe. As POGS has just shown, EU countries themselves suffer losses because of it.

This as well, Norah.
petra, here is the link. I read that a good bit of staff were leaving London, maybe to reasonably priced locations? news.efinancialcareers.com/uk-en/278401/michael-wheeler-bnp-paribas/
However, I don't think these jobs are the backbone to the economy.
This is not directly caused by Brexit but by lack of spending on the NHS.

Well just look at Cadburys.
It was nothing to do with Brexit. They too were making job losses prior to the EU Referendum and Brexit.
I am not saying there is /will not be related job losses because of the UK leaving the European Union. For all I know today Nestle could come out and say 'Yep, it was Brexit that caused it'. I still have not seen Nestle state that is the case.
It is not only the UK but other EU countries are experiencing job losses, not to do with Brexit, because factories are moving to lower wage countries such as Poland, Hungary, Romania, Cuba, Asia.
That is not to do with Brexit!
Why do you think Macron was booed by the workers at the Whirlpool Factory at Amien yesterday which is being closed and moved to Poland? Marine Le Penn was welcomed.
Sometimes Brexit is still being used as 'Project Fear' and it becomes meaningless at times.
They're all probably Chinese if you dig far enough!
Even another British institution, Thornton's, is owned by the Ferrero Rocher people now.
Not just Nestle, but Terry's and other manufacturing companies have moved.
Wasn't Terry's taken over by Kraft?
and Fry's taken over by Cadbury's
Cadbury's taken over by Kraft ('we promise to keep the Keynsham, Bristol factory open'
)
Kraft is American
They don't care.
DJ
Because some people are determined to dismiss what is going on outside of the UK and are so single minded and determined to blame Brexit on any b---y thing that does or does not move I thought it might bring some prospective into the thread for once.
What's that to do with Nestle closing factories and making redundancies in York and Newcastle?
We don't want to be part of Europe any more.
We want to stand on our own feet, take back control.
Unfortunately we don't control Nestle.
Have you seen the link from the York MP, who asked May for the special deal done with Nissan?
May said she'd talked to the bosses at Nestle and the DWP would go to talk to workers being laid off.
York's a strange constituency. It has two MPs, one for inner York and one for outer. It's called the doughnut.
Inner has a labour MP, outer a Tory. Most of the people I know who work there live in outer. They won't be happy.
I see I didn't miss much this evening. You remind me so much of a poster I once "knew" from another forum "stillaliveandkicking
