Brexit all done and dusted?

As an arch REMOANER I for one (of many) will not simply roll over and say that is that. As things progress at the very least parliament must ensure that the country does not Brexit in a bad way because of "The Will of the People". So many lies were told by both side at the time of referendum that when the full facts come to light a re-think should be considered.

I have yet to hear a sound reason for voting LEAVE. Of course the EU is far from perfect but we are better trying to change it from within than sniping from outside. A general election or second referendum before the point of absolute no return.

I happen to be visiting Brussels on an educational trip after Easter so until then I will put up and shut up unless really provoked.

Doesn't sound terribly tyrannical to me Daphne. On that basis we're all subject to tryanny. Londoners for example. Welsh speakers. Pensioners. Billionaires. Supermodels. Cornishmen. Cornish women. People from Cornwall. Gransnetters. We're all members of any number of minorities. In any event all much better than tyranny by a minority.

NFK, just seen your post.
I always go to fullfact to find out anything useful.

Re The Exit Fee: On Question Time last night, Rebecca Long Bailey made a very good point. She said that if we are not seen as a country that honours our obligations, then countries outside the EU would be reluctant to get into trade deals with us. We have to preserve a good reputation as an honest country.

durhamjen Fri 05-May-17 11:22:47

And David Davis said that he had no idea how much it was and wouldn't tell us if he did!

There's a word sycophant which means someone who sucks up to other people to get in their good books.
Then there's psychopath which is hard to define, maybe someone without a conscience.

Elegran Fri 05-May-17 13:26:30

Maybe psychophone means someone who sounds like a nutcase? There are certainly somne of those on GN.

Or a murderous phone stalker?

An interesting link DJ. Thanks. It does seem that no one really has a clue how much - but with all that pension to be paid out now, I'm glad we're getting out. Goodness knows what the bill will be in ten years time!

Have recorded QT, not watched it yet.

Welshwife Fri 05-May-17 13:47:47

The pensions will surely continue being paid for the rest of the lives of the people receiving them - I suppose it will depend on the way they are set up how much and how long theUK K needs to pay. Also I would think there will be salaries and severance pay for the MEPs - if it is anything like Westminster.

NfkDumpling Fri 05-May-17 17:11:55

But at least we won't have to contribute to new MEPs and civil servants pensions!

Welshwife Fri 05-May-17 17:15:42

No but no doubt the trade negotiators will cost quite a bit!

nigglynellie Fri 05-May-17 17:20:01

No doubt, but they're worth a every penny! The others are not worth 1p!!

durhamjen Fri 05-May-17 17:23:31

Hope we don't have to pay a pension to Farage!
He is being investigated because of fiddling expenses, so shouldn't get a pension.

Fitzy54 Fri 05-May-17 18:18:27

DJ I'm no fan but I suppose we ought to wait for the investigation to conclude before we take his pension!

durhamjen Fri 05-May-17 18:24:16

Does he have a pension yet? He's still supposed to be an MEP, isn't he? When was the last time he was there?

Insolvencies since the referendum and drop in the value of sterling

Up by 12.6%.

This is expected to rise by a further 9% if there is a soft Brexit

And a further 15% if there is a hard Brexit

This is interesting. It could be why May called the election and is insulting Eu members, so she can say it's all their fault.

rosesarered Fri 05-May-17 20:45:36

You mean being insulting like Juncker is?

A lovely photo.

nigglynellie Sun 07-May-17 13:03:53

So, Herr Juncker wasn't insulting didn't go running to Mrs Merkel, and the leak didn't come from Europe in the first place orchestrating his debacle?!!! dJ, you do have a strange way of interpreting the truth of this particular saga!!!confused

Ginny42 Sun 07-May-17 13:19:44

Yes DJ, remember those three in the photo who won't suffer at all from the carnage that is about to be unleashed by TM and this cohort. The ones who will suffer will be everyone except a few very rich people.

durhamjen Sun 07-May-17 14:47:02

I don't suppose Brexiteers will believe this, either?
