May is to make an important announcement at 11.15

Fitzy54 Thu 20-Apr-17 11:20:04

DD yes looking at the article again it has been Labour for a long time but I now see the majority hasn't been that big for some time.

Anniebach Thu 20-Apr-17 10:44:56

But many who voted for Corbyn were from momentum

daphnedill Thu 20-Apr-17 10:44:10

Fitzy Darlington was a Conservative seat in 1987, was then held by Labour, but has been a semi-marginal since 2010.

Luckygirl Thu 20-Apr-17 10:43:02

Corbyn would not be where he is if people in the party had not voted for him and it is therefore clear that this is what some Labour voters want: a party that is distinguishable from the Lib Dems, rejects Blair's revamp and goes back to its roots. That is fine - that is their choice.

Those who want the party to go in another direction have to deal with that as best they see fit. It is no good attacking Corbyn for being what the majority want at the moment.

Anniebach Thu 20-Apr-17 10:18:53

Ken Clarke is not going to stand down

Anniebach Thu 20-Apr-17 10:15:00

So criticising Blair, Farage, sturgeon , May and co is out and only their manifesto will be discussed ?

GracesGranMK2 Thu 20-Apr-17 10:12:45

" she switched from being a Milliband supporter to a Corbyn supporter in a flash,"

Isn't that what you are supposed to do when there is a change of leader AB. Look and learn might be useful for so called Labour Party members.

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Apr-17 10:11:56

Strange for one brought up in an ordinary council house, albeit with illustrious connections.

maddyone Thu 20-Apr-17 10:11:17

And yes Annie you're right too, she is a self serving person.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 20-Apr-17 10:10:47

The 'sneering' comment was, I believe "image from #Rochester". Of course someone could choose to read that as sneering or, should you want to denigrate someone it might be made to be read that way by members of other parties. Personal remarks are no more illuminating when they are about a politician than they are about a poster on here THAT YOU DON'T KNOW and, as I know from my own preferences, they are often nothing to do with the person THAT YOU DON'T KNOW but your political preferences.

Not liking someone was not my point re the interview. It was just the aggressive style that John Humphries' tends to use - but he is not alone it tends to be the 'in' style of the moment but doesn't tell us anything we didn't know.

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Apr-17 10:10:29

But whitewave, it is possible to dislike a member of the Shadow Cabinet or the Cabinet or indeed any politician but be a supporter of their party in general. There are plenty of people on here and elsewhere who express their dislike of a particular politician.

I agree with maddyone about Emily Thornberry, aka Lady Nugee.

maddyone Thu 20-Apr-17 10:09:56

Yes whitewave you're right of course, and I wouldn't base my vote on her behaviour, it's too important for that, but I particularly dislike Emily Thornbury because I find what she did to be particularly rude, and for me at least, her behaviour sums up entirely her view of ordinary working people.

Anniebach Thu 20-Apr-17 10:06:58

I agree Maddy, but not with the champagne socialist tag sorry. This tag is stuck on people who may be wealthy but who do care for for the poorest .

Thornbury wants to be the next labour leader, she switched from being a Milliband supporter to a Corbyn supporter in a flash, if he was to stand down now and a leader from the centre elected she would switch again, she is self serving.

whitewave Thu 20-Apr-17 10:02:07

maddy looking at the person rather than the policy isn't really the way to go. Policy policy policy.

We don't yet know what they all intend as the manifestos are yet to be published.

maddyone Thu 20-Apr-17 09:54:09

Regardless of John Humphries I cannot stand Emily Thornbury, she posted a picture with a sneering remark (I think it was on Twitter, but not 100% sure) of a house with a white van outside and an England flag hanging through the window (there may have been an important match coming up but again not sure, I'm not a football fan.) She is a champagne socialist of the worst kind, she sneers at the working classes.

Anniebach Thu 20-Apr-17 09:10:42

Would those in contact with the Corbyn-Momentum party advise them that the Election is not on the 1st June as claimed by Thornberry this morning

Anniebach Thu 20-Apr-17 09:06:30

The Corbyn-Momentum Party is the cuckoo in the nest.

grannypiper Thu 20-Apr-17 08:59:24

Pogs dont bother trying to understand the snp, there is nothing they do that makes sense. Sturgeon acts like a spoiled wee bairn who hasnt gotten her own way. Her true colours are shining through

POGS Thu 20-Apr-17 08:58:28

As for the fact Labour MP's are not standing I stand by my earlier post.

Corbyn and Momentum will fill their constituencies with candidates that back Corbyn and Momentum. In other words out with the old in the with new but the new have to agree with the Corbyn/Momentum Party not necessarily the Labour Party. The two are quite different on many aspects.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 20-Apr-17 08:31:59

Just listened to John Humphries interview Emily Thornbury on Today (Radio 4). It is definitely time he retired. What a pathetic interview. When will they learn that just being pleasant rather than confrontational - no John, the day after the vote on an election no one has a manifesto - he will get a better interview and, more importantly more information and clarification.

(Just to be even handed, I do feel exactly the same when he interviews people from the Conservatives)

Anniebach Thu 20-Apr-17 08:05:25

Seems Corbyn will not stand down no matter how badly the Labour Party may do in the election.

so I was right, he is not interested in winning an election he just want to destroy the Labour Party.

Fitzy54 Thu 20-Apr-17 07:03:57

I prefer the leather trousers idea to an empty chair ?. But its looking worse and worse for Labour. MPs deserting them. Even Bob Marshall-Andrews (no longer an MP but was always an anti-Blair stalwart of the left) is backing the LDs. Report in the Times about places like Darlington being up for grabs after 25 years of Labour representation. Early days though. 7weeks is a long time in politics!

daphnedill Wed 19-Apr-17 23:29:35

The TV producers could do what they did with Nicky Morgan's handbag on HIGNFY and have a pair of leather trousers on a chair.

Jalima1108 Wed 19-Apr-17 22:52:23

John Prescott's son is a speech writer?
Oh, it's a laugh a minute on this thread...
perhaps he is more like his mum

Fitzy54 Wed 19-Apr-17 22:34:58

I don't think the SNP could bring themselves to support anything proposed by the Tories.
