Interesting how t'innernet can be applied to most things these days - someone has made a spreadsheet and put it online:

I think R Johnson should be able to support the Lib Dems if she wants to without her family imploding. How many sisters and brothers vote the same way after all.

grin I think so ana

Isn't that the election policy of the left as well, GracesGranMk2?

Luckygirl Thu 04-May-17 17:46:11

Well we now know who is standing round here: the Tory (incumbent) and 3 other parties. Can these opposition parties not work out that splitting the opposition is complete madness? Sigh.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 03-May-17 10:24:23

Are we beginning to see the rights election policy? Shout loudly, repeat drivel often and lie about the opposition.

I gave to the Jo Cox Fund and to be honest I am quite surprised to see that what I thought was a Foundation that had at it's heart charity funding is being used to fund the Labour, Lib Dems and Green Parties.

The Jo Cox Foundation was quite rightly given Charity Status but ' More United ' is overtly political.

I hesitate to say anything positive about the Blair/Brown governments because it seems to be a universally accepted truth amongst supporters of Jeremy Corbyn that those governments did no right

That's a strange statement, Iam
Huge disapproval of the Iraq War, yes, but what else?
And I don't know if you've noticed but not all Labour Party supporters are supporters of Corbyn. Do say something positive about the last Lab governmentgrin

If Rachel Johnson becomes and MP I can see her as an effective LibDem Leader. Why anyone would relish the idea of a family slanging match I can't imagine. It's clear from what she and other family members have said, that Boris's stance on Leave caused considerable distress within the family, as did the outcome of the referendum.

I hesitate to say anything positive about the Blair/Brown governments because it seems to be a universally accepted truth amongst supporters of Jeremy Corbyn that those governments did no right. It goes without saying that Iraq was the disaster the major of the population knew it would be but those governments influenced positive social changes as well as improving public services.

I don't remember life before 2008 being calamitous.

The national debt is now three times higher than it was 2010. IFS figures show that, despite "austerity", the real deficit hasn't come down either.

If you look at an income distribution curve, about 70% of people earn less than the mean. The proof of an efficient economy is whether those people are managing. At the moment, they're being hit by cuts and rising prices, while asset holders are getting wealthier.

So much for the economy being safe in Conservative hands (unless you're already wealthy)!

What a rude person you are Day6.

The Jo Cox fund is giving funds to various progressive MPs from most parties.

£7500 per head of population.
People earning over £150 000 can pay for their share and other's share easily.

£500 billion is a big borrow

Rachel Johnson has joined the LibDems because of Brexit.
She wanted to stand but hadn't been a member for long enough. A bit of a relief, really, as three Johnsons in parliament might be a bit too much.

However, they could have had family slanging matches for all to see. Could have been very entertaining.

Whitewave - "We will see our living standards dropping and the NHS privatised. No recognition will be given to the political centre."

So, you have a crystal ball which tells you how the future will be? Interesting. Do you do time travel as well?

Your comment is one oft repeated by left wingers, that band of people so hoping life will be dire for people unless the Labour party is in charge.

Fortunately, recent history has shown us how calamitous and uncertain life is when we have a Labour government and how much money they borrow and spend in trying to achieve their ends. Corbyn is hardly giving people hope for a stable economy and a brighter future.

Cheers for the reassurance daphnedill.

Patronising, or merely stating the bleedin' obvious? smile

* "Stating the bleedin' obvious is a strict scientific field which receives considerable funding from several public bodies, including ICHTUT, I Could Have Told You That."

From Wikia.

That's why we have a free vote in the UK. Nobody's forcing you to vote one way or the other.

Day6 Thu 27-Apr-17 18:26:18

I couldn't vote for Tim Farron or Lib Dems even as a tactical measure. He and his policies, or utterances so far, leave me cold. I would not increase the chances of his party gaining seats. shock

whitewave Thu 27-Apr-17 16:14:34

No !! No chance of getting into Kemp Town.

There is a huge gay parade every summer. It's good.

daphnedill Thu 27-Apr-17 15:44:11

I would imagine Tim Farron's alleged attitude towards gay marriage wouldn't endear him to certain sections of voters in Brighton.

whitewave Thu 27-Apr-17 15:02:04

Yes we have two Universities and an Art School. Thousands of them everywhere, but makes for a lovely vibrant and lively town. Brighton has always been influenced by the level of academia I think. I have never bothered to work out if the student loan made a difference. The Libs have never represented any of the constituencies the nearest is Lewis, and that went Tory in the last election, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go back to the libs in future. Sussex Weald is as you would expect all Tory.

daphnedill Thu 27-Apr-17 14:47:19

I suspect there's already tactical voting in Brighton Pavilion, as many LibDem voters lean towards the Greens anyway, so they wouldn't want to split the vote.

The LibDem vote in Kemptown was higher before the coalition. Brighton has many students, so maybe the student fees fiasco influenced them. Maybe whitewave knows.

whitewave Thu 27-Apr-17 12:49:43

Kemp Town has been Labour in the past - most of the constituency seats in Brighton and Hove are marginal except Pavilion.

I was genuinely surprised how poor the Lib Dems performed in Brighton. It could work but the Lib Dems didn't have much to aim for in Brighton, saves them a hell of a lot of money not standing.
