Agree with points you mention Graces, but Christianity is supposedly Gods way of saying I was wrong to tell you all to fight each other, I regret it & I want you all to live in peace ! Just saying

You are indeed right that 'an eye for an eye' is in the Old Testament norose4 but, as the Old Testament is considered to be the word of God, I don't think you will find all (if any) strands of Christianity throwing it out in favour of JUST the New Testament. For instance Jesus spent 40 days and 40 nights in the dessert being tempted by the devil and, if you check, all Jesus' answers were all based on the Old Testament, so I think you would find many shades of Christianity would accept that what is said in the OT has to be taken into account.

However, I am not really interested in a debate about Christians and Christianity but more about people who use anything they can to attack - not nice when it descends to the levels Roses has and not, in my personal opinion, unforgivable. As for hell - well yes it does get a mention but many now believe it is the separation from God and the fire and brimstone descriptions were and attempt to give the uneducated some idea what that might be like but therein lies a very, very long discussion

Graces just thought I would point out that 'an eye for an eye ' is Old Testament & we are not forgiven. Whereas to be Christian or hold Christian beliefs you have to believe in the New Testament & (that God sent Jesus to save us )& are therefore forgiven . Non believers of either will apparently have to go somewhere hot ! I am not saying this disrespectfuly so no offence to anyone, just reiterataing from my Sunday school teachings .

Varian I'm sorry for your losses. I do feel that we've lived through the "best of times" and fear for the legacy we're leaving our children and grandchildren. We are responsible for that legacy and I don't feel that history will in the future judge us positively.

I feel you will not be alone in your concerns Varian. I think many people will be feeling that the opportunities they have been give will not be available to their grandchildren. I can imagine that the funerals of dear friends must have given you a real 'end of an era' feeling and I am so sorry you have to go through the loss.

Roses I see you have repeated exactly what you said before although I have never seen you say such a thing to anyone else.

So, you think you are using either what you believe to be my religion or one you believe matters to me to hurt. That is exactly why I think you are beyond the pale and totally outside the bounds of accepted behaviour. If you thought I might be say, Muslim or feel that the basis of the Muslim religion mattered I can imagine GN being down on you like a ton of bricks.

However, you appear to know little about Christianity. If repentance is genuine the it must always be forgiven. Quite obviously, having repeated what you say no one, not even the most devout Christian, would be require to forgive you. Remember that the Bible also says that justice is "an eye for an eye". Perhaps preaching to people when you don't know who you are preaching to is not a good idea.

Fortunately their parents are much more cosmopolitan than I am, so moving abroad will have fewer fears for them than staying in the UK in a few years time.
