Did anybody feel sorry for her yesterday? Or embarrassed? Or, like me, annoyed that she was so ill prepared and frankly incompetent.
She "misspoke" apparently. hmm
She only had one job to do.
And before anybody says the poor dear had to give eleventy billion seven interviews -she is a professional politician it's what she does.
What compounded it was her tone of voice -like a primary teacher talking to a very stupid child, trying not to lose her patience but clearly just about to. Especially as she was talking such nonsense.
With talent such as Yvette Cooper, Chuka Umunna, Michael Dughan and others (even Ed Balls!) to call on why does the Labour campaign wheel on choose someone like Diane Abbott to score an own goal?

Personally I think she did it deliberately. I think the MPs who stayed on have simply decided to work from the inside to overthrow Corbyn. And they're doing that by making sure they lose the election by a landslide so as to convince him to step down. I think if all the MP's had supported him in the first place, Labour, led by Corbyn, would be enjoying a far greater success.

Sorry, but the sign said
"Let's fund our NHS instead."
That does not say COULD.

The trouble is that this feeds into the Tory-made myth that Labour can't manage the economy. Every policy that Labour promotes, the media pressurises for exact figures and "where is the money coming from?". They don't do the same with the Conservatives.
And a myth it is.

Anya the presenter presumably isn't a professional politician attempting to convince the electorate that her party is capable of running the countries finances.

Jalima1108 Fri 05-May-17 09:36:11

I wonder if she makes the same mistakes with her expenses claims? If so, she could claim to be the most economical MP in the country.

nigglynellie Fri 05-May-17 09:29:50

It was lincsb, but not many on here will agree!

Lincsblue Fri 05-May-17 09:10:18

regarding the £350 million on the bus. I thought it was said that it was money that COULD be spent on the NHS, not that it would be.

Anya Fri 05-May-17 06:57:24

Did anybody watch that programme last night on stress. The presenter was put in a similar situation to DA and completely lost her ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.

chattykathy Fri 05-May-17 00:12:18

She said 'thousand' instead of' million '. Granted she became very flustered afterwards and didn't do herself or the Labour party any favours. My point was the media jumped all over it but ignored other gaffes by other people.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 22:59:42

Does this make up for Diane Abbott's gaffe?

A Tory MP thinks that people with permanent disabilities can get better.
He's on the work and pensions committee.

Diane Abbot is not the sharpest knife in the box

Diane Abbott was a clever girl at school and gained a place at Cambridge. Now, I am not a Diane Abbott fan although I must admit occasionally I enjoyed her 'double act' with Michael Portillo on Andrew Neil's sofa!

This is from an article in the Times 2005:
In her final year, the college tutor asked her the standard questions about what career she wanted to pursue. “I said, ‘I want to do good,’” Abbott told the Times. “‘Ah,’ she said. ‘In that case, you should go into the civil service, and since you’re not very good at figures, the Treasury is out. But the next most powerful ministry is the Home Office.”’

So she has proved now that she is not very good at figures hmm but really, she should have got on top of the brief before giving radio interviews.
Was she not well or is she losing her grip? Has she been promoted beyond her capabilities, clever or not?

And yes, she has proved that she hypocritical regarding her son's schooling which makes people wonder what else does she mis-speak about?

Preventing, not fighting. At least if you are fighting it, you let them in the country first, and take a bit of money off the tourists.

Anniebach Thu 04-May-17 17:33:15

May got one word wrong, Abbott cocked up an entire interview , not just any old interview, she was explaining Corbyns latest promise!

Come to think of it, perhaps she was repeating his explanation to her

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 17:28:17

Paddyann, that was May's misspeaking - or I hope it was.
Did you not see it?

paddyann Thu 04-May-17 17:12:54

MAWBROON so you think tourism is bad for us? Well after Brexit it might be all thats left so lets hang onto the tourists and not fight them please

Anniebach Thu 04-May-17 16:54:14

she should stick to speeches and give up interviews

ninny Thu 04-May-17 16:44:42

She got £500 for taking part in The Selfridges Beauty Projectconfused

rosesarered Thu 04-May-17 16:26:29

I imagine it's all over the internet, so even people who don't watch political programmes will see it, this is a major blow to Labour by a Labour own goal!

Ana Thu 04-May-17 16:23:34

Who cares whether she's won awards for her speeches.

This one was absolute rubbish!

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 16:16:10

She got 62% of the vote in her last election, and she has won awards for her speeches.
Amber Rudd was last spotted electioneering for Zac Goldsmith. Now there's one we really need back in, instead of a Libdem, I don't think.

Ana Thu 04-May-17 16:06:14

ONE WORD my a*rse! grin

When London, Stonehenge, Stratford , Edinburgh castle and our other "sights" are clogged with tourists, sightseeing buses, coach parties, and all the rest of it., maybe "fighting tourism " might be no bad thing! grin

sunseeker Thu 04-May-17 16:04:06

She didn't get one word wrong - she got the figure wrong several times, even after rustling through her notes, then tried to blame the interviewer and even at the end didn't have the correct figure.

I accept that everyone, including politicians, get brain freeze but she came across as completely unprepared and considering she is a professional politician there to convince the public her party were competent to run the country, it was a complete failure.
