What can TM be thinking of?

Sigh and double sigh.

Not content with taking us into an undemocratic referendum when we are all asked to vote on something where no-one could have a clear picture of the options, the conservatives now have a leader who stands and loudly slags off those with whom we need to negotiate for the secure future of the country. All thoroughly irresponsible - it just makes me want to despair.

Was TM really expected not to react. Brussels started this spat not London.

Is she a child niggly?

I would like a calm, competent and diplomatic negotiator and she is none of these. She is very used to doing what she does in order to get her own way which is alright with underlings or when most of the cabinet are on your side but she is not in that position currently. She is dealing with 27 other countries who know the upheaval we have created will make their lives worse and they have every right to feel like that and react in anyway they choose as long as it is legal.

I am actually beginning to think Corbyn would be better at negotiating on this for all his faults and I really didn't think I would reach that point.

Mature negotiators do not engage in "spats" via the media - they work hard behind the scenes using their knowledge of conciliation skills (in this case none!)to reach a measured and sensible compromise.

TM's behaviour is akin to Trump's tweets.

I have a real leaning in that direction Daphne but when the SDP (of which I was a member) merged I did feel that the social democracy was buried under the liberalism but I am currently watching with interest smile

To be fair to TM it was the EU who "leaked" the result of the talks over dinner. I think she had to come out and reply in strong terms. I have read reports where the EU negotiators are admitting that UK leaving will cause a big "wobble" in the EU and that they are concerned about the money the remaining countries would have to contribute which could result in calls to leave by other members.

The only people who screech and squawk are those in Brussels, with their ever increasing hysterical demands especially financially. Was TM really expected not to react. Brussels started this spat not London.

Yes, it was quite enlightening. I'm afraid I've gone over to the dark side and joined the LDs, but the discussion was all very friendly. We have County Council elections, but there'll be a repeat in a few weeks for the GE.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 04-May-17 14:11:23

Interesting Daphne.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 04-May-17 14:10:05

I don't criticise TM because there's nothing to criticise

She has actually reached cult status. Heaven help us.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 04-May-17 14:09:01

Who would you prefer in charge then Corbyn or Farron what a fiasco that would be. Simply no comparison.

I would prefer someone who realises we have Parliamentary government not presidential or even, as she appear to want, a dictatorship. I agree we are in a dark place all round. However, that does not mean that choosing someone who likes to think they will be the all powerful leader when they are actually a second rate administrator who has kept their head down and away from anyone who might ask real questions would be a good choice Ninny.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 14:03:55

Sorry, squawking.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 14:02:45

Not necessarily, roses.
Article 50 allows for a change of mind. I can't see how you have still missed that.

The EU flak comes our way because of May's screeching and squalking. It's time she started to be a bit more statesmanlike and sedate.

daphnedill Thu 04-May-17 14:02:43

I've just spent five hours this morning in the cold outside a polling booth and have been chatting to our Conservative candidates and others. Maybe it's just this area, but none of them are that impressed with May and have reservations about her ability to get a good deal. They're hoping for a replacement soon.

daphnedill Thu 04-May-17 14:00:24

Whoever is PM could do with a bit of charm, intelligence and a knowledge of political strategy.

rosesarered Thu 04-May-17 13:57:35

Whatever your flavour of politics, we are leaving the EU and whoever is PM needs to be tough enough to deal with the EU flak coming our way, and it comes down to a straight choice of May or Corbyn.....it has to be May.

nigglynellie Thu 04-May-17 13:57:17

Don't ninny what an awful thought!! shock I don't criticise TM because there's nothing to criticise. D.C. now that was different and he left plenty to be angry over, but then I now never wanted him as party leader in the first place.

suzied Thu 04-May-17 13:53:14

When I say we'll have a worse deal than the one we have already - I mean we have 0% trade tariffs with the worlds largest trading block. We aren't going to get a better deal than that when leaving that block. Why should we? If the best deal for the UK is 50% tariffs, no foreigners allowed, and the UK becoming a online gambling tax haven like Gibraltar than I wont be celebrating.

ninny Thu 04-May-17 13:41:05

Who would you prefer in charge then Corbyn or Farron what a fiasco that would be. Simply no comparison.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 13:36:30

Criticism. My northern accent nearly came out then.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 04-May-17 13:35:55

I don't even have confidence in T May ending up pleasing people with your views ninny let alone the UK.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 13:35:40

That lets you off all criicism, then, daphne. You can now go ahead and say what you like.

daphnedill Thu 04-May-17 13:33:57

I'd have more confidence in Noel Edmonds! hmm

GracesGranMK2 Thu 04-May-17 13:33:52

That is simply not true of most people Niggly. You may turn your politics into a religion that brooks no questioning - I don't know - but very few people actually do that.

ninny Thu 04-May-17 13:31:53

paddyann unlike Sturgeon are you having a laugh.
Suzied you might think we had a good deal but the Referendum result was Leave we are leaving the EU with a deal that suits us or no deal. I have every confidence in Theresa May to do the best for Britain.

daphnedill Thu 04-May-17 13:31:23

I don't think TM is up to the job and I haven't made excuses for DA.

daphnedill Thu 04-May-17 13:30:14

I don't understand the logic of thinking that everybody will get a good education if new grammar schools are opened either. Approximately 80% most certainly won't get a good education, apart from those who can afford not to send their children to a secondary modern.

By the way, did anybody vote for civil servants or local council officers? There are an awful lot more of them than there are bureaucrats in Brussels.
