Are the local elections the writing on the wall for UKIP?

I really think we're going to see a realignment of political parties over the next few years.

Unfortunately, I don't think it means that at all, Cinderdad. It means that what UKIP stood for in terms of values has gone mainstream.

Apparently, many of the people who have switched have gone Labour - UKIP - Conservative. For the moment, the Conservatives have gained from the switch, but it will be interesting to see how they cope in the future. The right wing of the Conservatives has been strengthened and the ex-UKIP supporters will make their demands.

Since the referendum UKIP have not only lost their reason for being but also shown themselves to be the nasty party. In the French election the Front Nationale seems to be going the same way.

The demise of UKIP must surely send a signal that a significant percentage of the population have changed their minds since June 2016 and the government should be flexible enough to contemplate that.

Plus, as the name says United Kingdom Independence Party........and now we have independence! No need for them now.

I think the problem is that UKIP have struggled to transition from a single-issue party to a more mainstream appeal especially without Farage - in addition the infighting among its leadership does not give a coherent impression

Yes, I think UKIP will be wiped out in the GE as well, but the writing may be on the wall for the Labour Party too ( under Corbyn) as they did very badly in these elections.

Ninny, I think quite a few used to be Labour. But not of the Corbynite/Islington variety so I'm not sure what they will do.

Yes all UKIP supporters will be voting Conservative.

It all depends on the Brexit negotiations.
