It also seems to be the case that most of the cabinet did not know about the social care proposal and that her favourite adviser's Nick Timithy's fingerprints are all over it.
Sometimes it’s just the small things that press the bruise isn’t it? 😢
‘We need to seriously remind ourselves that we are being asked to cast a vote that will affect not just our lives today, but the future of generations to come’.
I desire a fairer and decent society, one that does not impose severe austerity packages on low and middle earners and so many young families. In fact, for most of us the quality of life for our own grandchildren and their prospects and safe future."
I am deeply worried about giving Teresa May and many of her RW extremists a blank cheque to do what ever they want over the next five years. I am not assured at present that we can trust her and the extreme dogma of many of her MP's. We have no guarantee she will be in office for the full term, look what happened to Maggie.
Her unwillingness to inform the Country what Brexit will mean if she gets her on way with the EU and she is not even prepared to debate her election policies on TV for us all to hear and give our approval,or dissent is worrying. Forget about Corbyn that is a red herring excuse given to protect her from facing the camera's and the Nations scrutiny.
Her term in office at the Home Office has not been the brightest for any leading conservative minister, nor as her ability been questioned to the full to be able to lead our nation through the trouble waters likely to be ahead after Brexit, her ability is still an important unknown factor.
No, I cannot fully put my trust in her at present, I need to have far greater assurances far better than the rude way she behaved at the dispatch box and at the rostrum outside number 10 last week.
We need to be quite clear the election is NOT on Brexit it is on policies for healing and improving the quality of life of the nation over the next five years. I want a bright future for my grandchildren, I am not sure that Teresa May knows how to achieve that with her political dogma, or that I can presently 100% trust her without her being willing to debate her policies in front of the Nation. She is possibly more worried about Nicola Sturgeon than Jeremy Corbyn.. A landslide victory is likely to send the wrong messages to her backbenchers for more draconian policies and I do not believe that is what the nation needs for our grandchildrens future. I am therefore coming round to voting Lib Dem.
It also seems to be the case that most of the cabinet did not know about the social care proposal and that her favourite adviser's Nick Timithy's fingerprints are all over it.
How many u-turns to date?
Açording to newsnight she has carried out at least 5-6 u-turns.
Strong and stable? I think not.
As they said shes playing into Brussels hands, as she clearly is open to changing her mind and isnt so strong as she tries to make out
Teresa May seems to be very badly briefed and is not showing the leadership qualities she boasts of every day.
We do need a progressive policy to cover the crisis in Care, if she had said we shall produce and consult on a green paper on Care.
That would have gone some way to addressing one of the big problems with the social care system, which is that the neediest can pay a very disproportionate amount for their care. There are no easy solutions to the failures of successive governments to get to grips with this issue, but this proposal as set out by Sir Andrew Dilnot could form part of a better system.
Her badly thought through proposals have sharply highlighted her lack of leadership qualities which her opponents are, exploiting.
No.
Her performance was dreadful.
I think that it is quite rational to query her competence.
After giving away her leverage over Article 50, she then went on tohaving her bid for preliminary talks rejected, then put red lines on such issues as food packaging which she cannot deliver, and failed to play to her strengths in her relationship eith Sturgeon.
She has clearly made too many unforced errors which have limited her room to manoeuvre
It all suggests a worrying level of incompetence. Her actions do suggest that she is not that sure footed.
(It was discussed a bit on the paying for social care thread, but it's no fun when the Tories won't try to stick up for her.)
No.
Are we going to discuss TM's performance on Andrew Neill's programme? Am I on the wrong thread or have I missed it?
I'm not sure if May is deliberately throwing this election to avoid having to negotiate Brexit or have the Tories hung her out to dry? It seems Mr Juncker was being rather diplomatic when he said she seemed 'poorly briefed'.
Surely no one can think she could possibly negotiate with serious professional people in the EU. The UK must not be represented by this embarrassing woman. Unfortunately this will have gone out on international media.
It was full of the predictable sound-bites and rather a lot of the first person singular. She trots out the same sound-bite when pressed again for an answer, because the first sound-bite wasn't an answer.
Neil referred to the “just about managing” and how, despite her claiming to be on their side, things are getting harder for them. She replied that she wants a stronger economy with higher paid jobs and lower energy bills.
But Neil persists, asking, “In what way are you on their side?” Again, she dodges and tells him that she wants to bring economic prosperity. No blinkin' wonder she didn't want a TV debate.
Do we trust her? Well do you? Yes or No answers only please and no second chance if you change your mind.
Hey, you lot, I have a hard enough job teaching my grandson metric. Don't wish that on me.
Although the other day, we had to work out numbers in base 6, and he enjoyed doing that. No practical use, really, but he could see the pattern.
Perhaps you'd better PM the book title to GGMk11 as you don't seem to want to give it out on here whitewave!
Why we need a second vote when we can hopefully find out what the terms will be
But Ana, WW didn't say it was a book saying that Brexit will be a disaster, she said it was about "relating to the negotiations ahead of us including the WTO" and that is what she based her comment that Brexit will not be positive.
What is your opinion based on - Nigel Farage (gone never to be seen again), Boris and the Bus (well we all know now that that was a lie) the Theresa May Team (oh, no she didn't want to leave did she) or have we missed actual facts that tell us all will be great?
dj interestingly it isn't about disaster Brexit, it is about how and what negotiations are needed in order to extricate ourselves from EU and the following WTO negotiations. It gives a lot of detail and is entirely neutral.
Pity we didn't have that information before the referendum. It is absolutely clear to me that the Brexiters were either entirely ignorant or lying about what will happen after Brexit.
And for every book that claims Brexit will be a disaster for the UK you can bet there'll be one stating the opposite point of view.
It keeps the brain cells working Welshwife.
Whitewave may I ask what book it is? I shouldn't be asking as I am still ploughing through Citizen Clem but it sounds interesting.
I quite enjoyed doing conversions using £sd. Or yards feet and inches!
There's a thought, whitewave.
Do they expect us to go back to £sd?
All May's uturns since becoming PM.

Look out for the billboards by the People's Assembly.
I am reading a book relating to the negotiations ahead of us including the WTO if necessary - if anyone reads this and then says Brexit is and will be a positive thing for the UK then they are twopence short of a shilling.
live in hope, die in dispair
Neither!
Pandora's Box.
Which version do you believe? The one where hope came out of the box, or the one where hope was trapped?
If I were a politician (which God forbid!), I wouldn't want to be elected right now. It will be so much easier to sit on the opposition benches booing and hissing at the poor sods who have to deal with all the hellish brexit negotiations.
I was at a talk on the complexities of brexit last week. There's an extremely difficult couple of years in store for the prime minister. Likely to be impossible to suit everyone and hard for the winning party this time to be elected again at the next election. In the meantime the country and the economy has to be kept running.
If only brexit hadn't been voted for! -and who would want to be a politician? Not me!!
Can we trust her with a blank cheque? I think it's already bounced. I didn't see this interview, but according to the Guardian on ITV's Peston on Sunday, BJ was pressed on why there was no pledge from the Tories to use any proceeds from Brexit to fund the NHS, when handing over £350m a week had been a flagship promise of his campaign to leave the EU.
Johnson said: “It is. It is. Theresa May, she said it at the launch of the manifesto … She said we are going to take back control.”
Neither she nor the document made any such promise.
This is weird. It's also impossible to comply with. It sounds very trumplike.
