The BBC has announced:

Party leaders to take part in BBC election programmes

David Dimbleby will host two Question Time Specials in which leaders will face audience questions consecutively.

Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn will appear on 2 June, followed by Tim Farron and Nicola Sturgeon on 4 June.

Now, given that there was some concern a few months ago over the 'packing' of Question Time audiences with Right Wing sympathisers I wonder how this is going to pan out.

Will audiences be invitation only, with invites controlled by the parties concerned?

Will the questions be notified to the participants in advance?
(I realise that the programme makers will screen potential questions and try to ensure a 'balance' but it would be, IMO, useless if all the participants are doing is trot out prepared answers)

How much audience participation will be allowed , for example, will a questioner be able to 'come back' after they've had an answer?

Also:

In addition, Mrs May and her husband Philip are also expected to appear on BBC's One Show on 9 May.

WHY Philip?

I actually watched part of the One Show tonight. I don't often watch it because it is so anodyne.

Mr May made no impression. A pale imitation of Dennis Thatcher.

Mrs May actually did say something quite revealing. She said that Banksy was not her cupmof tea.

Banksy is an intelligent, acute observor of the state of the nation. He is subservise, he could encourage and inspire the "saboteurs".

This is a useful clue for those floating voters. Ask yourself if you like Banksy. If the answer is yes you cannot vote for "Theresa May's team"

I watch The One Show now and again, depends on the guests.Philip seems like a very pleasant and supportive husband, and they look comfortable together. No shock revelations but it's not that kind of show.grin

I can't understand the mindset of posters who sneer at anyone's OH , either UK or French politicians, or anyone at all.

rosesarered Tue 09-May-17 20:22:24

That's a strange thing to say varian so I will assume you are joking.

varian Tue 09-May-17 20:30:24

Not joking. T M is no joking matter.

I don't think that a PM's ( or the Opposition ) choice of art work has much to do with anything.
My brother likes Banksy and has two prints on the wall.
I like Banksy's art work and have one print on the wall.
It won't stop either of us voting for who we like in politics. We both vote differently.

I'm not sure that I would call Banksy subversive really. He started out like that but. imo, no longer is.

Jalima1108 Tue 09-May-17 20:58:09

Ask yourself if you like Banksy. If the answer is yes you cannot vote for "Theresa May's team"
That reminds me of what one poster said in the run-up to Brexit - 'consider your attitude to risk'

although actually, that was quite sensible advice.

I apologise. I was confusing BBC Radio 4 Any Questions with BBC TV Question time.

This is the article I was referring to much earlier about 'invited' audiences:

AmMaz Tue 09-May-17 21:02:04

Yes, why do we have to have hubby Mr May on the TV with her?

rosesarered Tue 09-May-17 21:04:08

Actually Maizie I sometimes mix up those programmes as well.

Anniebach Tue 09-May-17 21:14:02

Why not have Mr,May on the tv with her?

MaizieD Tue 09-May-17 21:22:41

Why not, Annie?

Is it usual for the Prime Minister and their spouse to appear on a non political TV programme during a General election?

Spouses appearing at political rallies, vote counts, Conference etc. is perfectly normal and usually expected, but on programmes like The One Show?

Anniebach Tue 09-May-17 21:37:35

Not breaking any election rules, I couldn't care less who is interviewed with their spouse, I am free to switch off. Sorry but complaining about this is so petty, I doubt you would have complained if the latest Mrs Corbyn was to appear with her husband. Has it affected your vote? Your political views? hasn't done that for me, do you fear her to complain about this interview?

MaizieD Tue 09-May-17 21:39:03

I would have thought it just as odd, Annie.

More on the Question time audience:

Question Time audiences are not a random sample of the public, but are screened and selected in advance, on the basis of their replies to a questionnaire on an application form. Mandatory fields on the application form include the applicant’s desired questions, voting intention, political party membership, occupation, ethnicity, and disability status.[1]

Ruth1958 Wed 10-May-17 07:10:48

Ruth1958 Wed 10-May-17 07:12:24

Banksy will no doubt be another champagne socialist!

Ruth1958 Wed 10-May-17 07:13:38

Just because you like someone's art doesn't mean you share their principles

ninny Wed 10-May-17 07:14:47

Agree with you Ruth1958 a normal couple who obviously care and support each other.

Ruth1958 Wed 10-May-17 07:18:13

You're trying to convince us that Banksy is some kind of intellectual...he's just good at art and communicates his thoughts in art....value others too who may think his art banine and lefty clap.

Ruth1958 Wed 10-May-17 07:19:56

TM is the only politician fit for the job...the rest are a joke.
