The BBC has announced:

Party leaders to take part in BBC election programmes

David Dimbleby will host two Question Time Specials in which leaders will face audience questions consecutively.

Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn will appear on 2 June, followed by Tim Farron and Nicola Sturgeon on 4 June.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2017-39845685

Now, given that there was some concern a few months ago over the 'packing' of Question Time audiences with Right Wing sympathisers I wonder how this is going to pan out.

Will audiences be invitation only, with invites controlled by the parties concerned?

Will the questions be notified to the participants in advance?
(I realise that the programme makers will screen potential questions and try to ensure a 'balance' but it would be, IMO, useless if all the participants are doing is trot out prepared answers)

How much audience participation will be allowed , for example, will a questioner be able to 'come back' after they've had an answer?

Also:

In addition, Mrs May and her husband Philip are also expected to appear on BBC's One Show on 9 May.

WHY Philip?

sunseeker you are right ( you often are) The One Show sometimes discusses serious things but is usually light hearted as it was the other night.T May and husband said nothing to get anybody worked up about it, and the other Leaders, with or without wives ( their choice but they have been invited on I read) will be appearing on it.Maybe Corbyn will talk about hats.

Trisher if policies not people who matter to you why are you so het up about May appearing on a chat show

when I grew up cleaning the oven was a 'boy' job but when DH and I got married he informed me that it was most definitely not!!

I thought Philip May came across as a very nice man who was happy to go along with his wife having a busy political life. Theresa seemed very uncomfortable sitting there but was surprisingly forthcoming about false news when she was first selected to stand for Parliament. Maybe she would have felt better wearing less formal clothes.

I think the timing of this interview - if you could call it that - was bad - Mrs Corbyn has already said she will not appear - absolutely her choice and I will be very surprised if Mrs Farron agrees to do it although I am sure she is lovely and they have a happy marriage. He spoke very nicely about his family when talking to Julie Etchingham.

I saw a report that the BBC is giving Paul Nuttal two slots at appearing on TV but none to Caroline Lucas and the chap who assists with the Green Party job - that is not right.

Anniebach Wed 10-May-17 12:32:02

I am sure May being asked a question about shoes will bring her thousands of extra votes and I now have no fear of Wales losing labour MP's because May likes walking in Wales.

When Corbyn appears on the one show they may ask him about jam making, this will cost so many jobs in jam factories as the country all become home jam makers.

Anniebach Wed 10-May-17 12:35:24

Sturgeon is suppose to be appearing on the One Show but not Leanne Wood, if so this isn't fair either

Beammeupscottie Wed 10-May-17 12:57:38

ab. Just had my laugh of the day. Jezza and the jam.
Apparentally, he does not want to parade his wife on telly. Can't think why; she looks presentable.

A little joke.
Jeremy Corbyn went into the bank: "Good morning", says Jerry, "could you please cash this cheque for me?"
Cashier: "It would be my pleasure Sir, but could you please show me some identification?"
Corbyn: "I did not bring my ID with me as I didn't think there was any need to. I'm Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party and the Opposition!!"
Cashier: "Yes, I know who you are Sir, but with all the bank regulations, monitoring, impostors and forgers etc., I must insist on seeing some identification".
Corbyn "Just ask any of the customers here at the bank who I am and they will tell you. Everybody knows who I am!"
Cashier: "I'm sorry Sir, but these are the bank rules and I must follow them".
Corbyn: "I'm urging you, please cash this cheque for me".
Cashier: "Look Sir, this is what we can do. One day Colin Montgomery came into the bank without any ID. To prove he was Colin Montgomery he pulled out his putter and putted a ball along the floor and into a small cup.
With that sort of skill we knew it was Colin Montgomery and we cashed his cheque. On another occasion, Andy Murray came in without any ID. He pulled out his tennis racquet and lobbed a tennis ball straight into my teacup with such a spectacular shot that we all knew it was Andy Murray".
Corbyn starts to think and think and finally says, "To be honest, there is nothing that comes into my mind. In fact I can't think of a single thing that I'm any good at."

Cashier: "Will it be large or small notes you require Mr Corbyn?"

Oven cleaning is most definitely a boy Jalima1108 as is anything else smelly or messy so don't let DH tell you otherwise. grin

gillybob Wed 10-May-17 13:07:23

see other thread as well gillybob

Which one Jalima1108 I can't find it?

I'm interested to know what jobs we all consider to be "boy jobs" and which ones "girls jobs"?

Beammeupscottie Wed 10-May-17 13:28:21

Girl jobs are what I want to do; boy jobs the reverse.

Did anyone see that episode of Malcolm in the Middle when Dewy had a bad attack of kitchen cleaning OCD;

Father; "Shouldn't we take him to see someone?
Mother; "Sure, when he's cleaned the oven"

gillybob Wed 10-May-17 13:34:51

Love it Beamme grin

I guess you are right about the jobs. DH tends to do the nasty stuff including bins, drains etc.

I do every bloody thing else including most of the cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing, gardening, decorating, shopping.......

Something sadly wrong I think, although to be fair he works very long hours.

gillybob Wed 10-May-17 13:36:20

Daren't send DH shopping as he comes back with all sorts of cr*p and very rarely the thing he went for.

Anniebach Wed 10-May-17 13:56:29

Beam grin

Beammeupscottie Wed 10-May-17 13:57:15

Mine obsesses about toilet rolls and salad cream. Likes plenty of stock of both.

Re; your little gd and new school. I would not like my 12 year old GD to stand at bus-stops. Would GN allow you to crowd fund for taxi fares for the first year? I would gladly give you some money.

angelab Wed 10-May-17 14:01:20

beam great to find another Malcolm in the Middle fan - loved Bryan Cranston long before Breaking Bad!

gillybob Wed 10-May-17 14:13:36

No way Beamme This is the absolute responsibility of the LEA and they know it they are just trying to shirk their responsibilities!

Such a kind thought though. smile

To be honest, I already do a few school runs/overnights depending on DDiL's shifts etc. and am considering ways that I could take her to school every day, (without her having to sleep at mine every week night) although I can't be in opposite ends of two towns at the same time, so taking her would mean I couldn't take the "littlies" to primary (again miles away from home) I wish I could split myself into 4 sometimes.

Beammeupscottie Wed 10-May-17 14:14:31

I just love all that family, Angelab. All the cast was so good. Do you remember when Mother found her best dress down the lavatory and after tongue-lashing the boys found out that Bryan Cranston had done it. Priceless.

gillybob Wed 10-May-17 14:19:50

Assuming I had asked him to pick up some bleach on the way home from work DH's typical shop would be;

A couple of bottles of red wine (it was on offer and its really good)
1-2 huge bars of Cadbury's Dairy Milk chocolate. His favourite.
Kitchen rolls (he uses mountains of the stuff)
The latest children's DVD (they will "need" to see it and he can't help himself buying for the DGC).
A bread stick (he likes a bread basket with everything)

No bleach as he wasn't sure what colour bottle to get.

angelab Wed 10-May-17 14:27:35

My first experience of MITM was when there was a shredder outside their house and a random collection of household items was being fed in - didn't realise then that the older man throwing himself into it was the dad smile

Jalima1108 Wed 10-May-17 23:25:23

um, I've forgotten now, sorry

Phillip May is an extremely rich and busy man, working in investment. Anyone watched the US series House of Cards?
I did not watch but assume all the questions on the One Show non political and agreed in advance. Journalists are complaining that when she meets the press on the campaign trail she will only answer selected questions that have been agreed in advance!
I was in the audience at a Question Time recently. They try to get a mix of people in the audience. But not a representative cross section. The people who apply are all interested in politics. Thus you might have a disproportionate number of Green or UKIP members in the audience, compared to the community. When you go in everyone gets the opportunity to write down two questions. The staff then sort them into piles according to topics. They choose the 6-7 biggest piles and then select a good question from each pile. There is a lot of time devoted to the audience speaking - different to the radio on. They only get through about half a dozen questions in a programme. I wonder if the election programme will be different - more questions and no members of the audience able to challenge the PM directly. Wouldn't be surprised. No awkward questions allowed by Theresa's Team.

Philip May is the kind of 'un-brash, unstarry banker' on whose expertise many of us rely for our private pensions and savings if we have any.

He now handles relationships with clients apparently.

Anniebach Thu 11-May-17 15:52:11

Corbyn refused to be interviewed on 'Today' Jess , he only does pre recorded interviews for TVs, so no difference
