Conservative voters don't look at this

This video shows the reality of life for a disabled person after seven years of a Conservative government (with a little help from the LibDems).

Is she an unusual exception, I wonder?

Think Perth and Borders may go blue and possibly around Aberdeen.
Hoping that Labour pick up a couple probably in central belt. Surely Mhairi Black will stay!
Still think SNP will do better than predicted.
May have to accept reluctantly that Tory MP's could outnumber our pandas!

FarNorth Thu 08-Jun-17 22:30:11

mcem it is sacrilege if Tories get the seats.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 08-Jun-17 22:19:49

I've started a results thread to keep it all together if you would like to do that.

I couldn't agree more mcem.

mcem Thu 08-Jun-17 22:16:36

Oh please just this once let the exit poll be correct.
Don't think SNP will do that badly but frankly, if it's a hung parliament and TM doesn't get her triumphalist victory, I'm prepared to accept that a few of the SNP seats may have been sacrificed for the greater good.
Is that sacrilege???

Riverwalk Thu 08-Jun-17 22:09:52

Blimey!

I'll now have to stay up and watch!

durhamjen Thu 08-Jun-17 22:06:03

Whichever thread you want - all of them, if you want.
Are you going to stay up and watch?

whitewave Thu 08-Jun-17 22:04:18

Is this the thread we are on?

durhamjen Thu 08-Jun-17 22:03:10

Exit polls, hung parliament!!!!

daphnedill Thu 08-Jun-17 21:06:14

That's appalling!

I hope they get it sorted and kick up a fuss if the result is close. I know from my DS that some first time voters were confused.

DS lives in halls of residence and the uni registered them, but some students living in private rentals weren't registered. I got DS to double check that he was registered, but I guess some parents aren't so "controlling". I had to intervene and get him registered for the referendum. He had assumed he was registered, but he wasn't and we had to act quickly to get him on the electoral roll.

DD has lived in a number of short term tenancies and could easily have missed out on being registered. Again, I've nagged her and she did have a vote, but I can imagine that some people are more laid back than I am.

Students can remain at their parents' address and apply for a postal vote, but the situation isn't explained very clearly. I'm not surprised that some of them miss out and it doesn't help if the local council isn't on top of the situation. I'm not really blaming the councils either, because I know that they're experiencing cuts and don't have the time to follow up absent voters.

More interference.

Anyone in Enfield who can corroborate?

durhamjen Thu 08-Jun-17 20:31:00

We'd better hope those students get their votes in along with all the other youngsters who are voting for the first time.

Information on here for students who have been told they can't vote.

If it's the first time you have voted, how do you know what to do if you do not receive your postal vote, Jalima?

It's not postal votes, anyway. They have proof that they are registered, even though, when you get your voting card you are told you do not need to take it with you.

I think it was Keele University - Newcastle-under-Lyme

Jalima1108 Thu 08-Jun-17 20:02:55

'The whole of the Midlands' is a huge area including many areas of high deprivation, others areas fairly affluent, ex-mining towns etc etc.
So that is rather a sweeping statement.

daphnedill Thu 08-Jun-17 20:01:31

dj No, I hadn't. Which unis were involved? My DS voted. He sent me a text to inform me that I didn't need to take him to a polling booth under duresse. It could have had something to do with the constant nagging hmm, but as he's studying politics, I would hope he'd be interested in voting.

Jalima1108 Thu 08-Jun-17 19:59:33

About 50 people, some students not on the list and some postal voters in Newcastle-under-Lyme due to incompetence at the council offices by the sounds of it.
Some of these people did not receive their postal voting papers.
If you did not receive your postal voting paper would you not phone up and demand to know what was happening well in advance?

The Labour candidate should get in but it was fairly close last time.

daphnedill Thu 08-Jun-17 19:58:04

varian This is an ultra-safe Conservative seat. However, many of the pupils' parents work in IT, medical or scientific research, pharma or academia. Jobs are already being lost. This part f the constituency is very strongly Remain.

I'm not surprised so many of the pupils voted LD or Labour. Unfortunately, they tend to leave at 18 (the majority go to university) and don't come back, so the area is top heavy with older people.

durhamjen Thu 08-Jun-17 19:48:46

Have you seen the stuff about students being turned away, being told their names are not on the register, even though they have proof that they are?

varian Thu 08-Jun-17 19:35:37

daphnedil I was encouraged to hear the result of the voting at your local school. If only enough older voters had the same sensible views, our country might have a better, brighter futire.

mostlyharmless Thu 08-Jun-17 18:34:03

High turnout and long queues at universities apparently.

durhamjen Thu 08-Jun-17 18:30:06

I hope they prove that Tory wrong, then, mostly, and get rid of him.
I was expecting the latest from Owen Jones!

mostlyharmless Thu 08-Jun-17 18:14:17

That was to daphnedill.

mostlyharmless Thu 08-Jun-17 18:12:39

I suppose the libdem vote at your local school was an anti Brexit vote. Owen Jones, the Guardian journalist, seems really good at appealing to young voters (Facebook and twitter). A very talented man.
