The exit pole predicting no overall majority.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:48:38

It was Nandalot and a calm John MacDonald to put it forward.

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:49:56

And guess what it is YOU. Making the personal attacks GGm2 I have made a point. Not a personal attack. You started that!

Go back to your lovely catty chatty thread then.

Byeeeeeeeeeeee

Anniebach Fri 09-Jun-17 08:50:20

Daphne, I didn't say the young were stupid ,

Nandalot Fri 09-Jun-17 08:51:03

Annie, like you I was very worried about Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party. Not because I didn't agree with him but because I thought he would take us into the wilderness years and mean we were in opposition for years. I also thought he did not have the charisma to take the electorate with him. He's proved me wrong. Forget about Momentum, etc. Which of his policies do you disagree with?

daphnedill Fri 09-Jun-17 08:51:34

ab Having read GG's posts, I consider she does think for herself - as do I!

I think it's astonishing that a Labour Party supporter is so negative this morning. You thought that Corbyn was unelectable, as did I until a few weeks ago. You were wrong. Get over it!

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:52:05

I think the young people in my family are more capable of critical thinking than you will ever be AB. They looked at what was being said and voted accordingly.

(That is critical thinking AB, not criticising thinking. I know you are very capable of that)

whitewave Fri 09-Jun-17 08:52:13

But you can't bring yourself to say you were wrong about Corbyn can you annie

daphnedill Fri 09-Jun-17 08:52:19

You implied it ab.

ninathenana Fri 09-Jun-17 08:52:32

They cross your name off when they give you your voting slip, so they can tell whether you voted but that is surely to prevent people trying to vote twice rather than pin pointing those that didn't.
I can't answer your other questions gilly

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:52:35

No I am NOT suggesting that at all whitewave she asked me what happened to the slips after they were counted and I said I didn't know, and I still don't. They must be kept for a certain length of time in case there needs to be a recount but what about after that? Simple question, no agenda.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:53:28

Daphne, I didn't say the young were stupid

No you just inferred I cannot think for myself AB. The slurs and attacks have started. I think it's time I left you to it.

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 08:54:45

Thank you nina at last someone who is trying to answer my serious question. I knew that they would know who had voted and who didn't.

Fitzy54 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:55:21

Clearly a huge hammer blow for the Tories. Labour supporters deserve their period of celebration after the earlier projections of a Tory landslide, but let's not forget that the Tories still managed to get a lot more votes and seats than Labour. What might really put the cat among the pigeons is if (despite what Gerry Adams has just said) Sinn Fein were to take up their seats and support Corbyn. I think that would leave the tories with less than an overall majority even with DUP support? Politically, TM is a dead woman walking, but Tory pundits saying a leadership election now would be like shooting themselves in the other foot have a good point, especially given the likely candidates. I'll bet there are swathes of tories wishing Ruth Davidson could get herself on the ticket! For the UK in general, it feels like the old Chinese curse of "interesting times".

nightowl Fri 09-Jun-17 08:55:35

I am proud of the young this morning and proud of the Labour Party for giving them hope, not just of free tuition fees but hope for a fairer future for all. My generation had great hope, if it were the only thing I could leave to my children I would die a happy woman.

Nandalot Fri 09-Jun-17 08:55:40

GG At the top of this page you mentioned my name but I'm not quite sure what you were trying to say. Would you please clarify?

Nandalot Fri 09-Jun-17 08:57:01

Hear, hear Nightowl

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:57:53

Interesting comment; the Cons may be able to put together a government but will they be able to put a legislative programme through.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 08:59:16

Sorry Nandalot - missing comma. It was in reply to your post and should have read:

It was Nandalot, and a calm John MacDonald to put it forward.

Greyduster Fri 09-Jun-17 09:04:58

Biggest surprise for me? Labour took Sheffield Hallam, one of the most affluent constituencies in the country, for the first time in its history! Maybe if anyone other than Nick Clegg had defended the seat, the Lib Dems might have hung on to it, but it has an ever increasing student population and I think that must have been a big factor.

Nandalot Fri 09-Jun-17 09:05:05

All clear now,. thanks GG.

Anniebach Fri 09-Jun-17 09:06:31

Nandalot, Corbyn fought a clever campaign and certainly improved in the last few months.

I have said many times I did not agree with no tuition fees and free school dinners, too many promises . If labour had won some promises would be broken and could have ended the Labour Party.

I think there is a need for calm thinking and discussion , not possible here,

On a personal note I am thrilled Welsh labour won back Gower, I worked my socks off there ?

Elegran Fri 09-Jun-17 09:07:15

gilly Used voting slips kept under sealed storage for six months in case of a recount or other legal checkup, then put through an industrial strength shredder.

gillybob Fri 09-Jun-17 09:09:27

Thank you Elegran but what about the list where they tick off/cross out who has voted and who has not? Genuine question?

whitewave Fri 09-Jun-17 09:10:15

Sea of red and green in Brighton and Hove. Strong academic vote here with two universities.

whitewave Fri 09-Jun-17 09:10:56
