The exit pole predicting no overall majority.

Yes we are awash with red and green down here - it is the academic and young vote as we have 2 universities and numerous colleges. Bright folk voting for a bright future

Lazigirl Fri 09-Jun-17 13:25:20

Just heard Menzies Campbell saying after hearing TMs speech that she doesn't appear to be showing much contrition for a vicar's daughter smile

Luckygirl Fri 09-Jun-17 13:28:09

How can May expect people to trust her when she stands outside No.10 saying that she represents certainty when she knows perfectly well that it is likely that she will limp along till the summer recess and be replaced; when she knows that her party is hanging on by the skin of its teeth and relying on a handful of fundamentalist religious dinosaurs to prop up her government?

She is standing there and lying through her teeth.

If she were to stand there and say that the results have been disappointing and not what she had hoped for, but that she and her new-found cronies will try and keep going I would have more respect for her.

She knows she is lying and she knows we know - so what is the point?

MaizieD Fri 09-Jun-17 13:30:36

Good post, Luckygirl

"I saw it announced on ITV, POGS, so just bloody well back off!

It was genuine question. Sorry is this just a love fest for the few?

"POGS we've been happily chatting amongst ourselves why don't you go and chat with your right wingers."

And another one.

Is this really what Gransnet has come to.?

Left wing only can engage.
---

Having put my 'entire' post history up as you request I see absolutely nothing of remotely an issue but you can't stop.

"For hours the left wing grans happily chatted amongst ourselves enjoying the moment and then you took it into your head to butt in and disrupt it. That was our reaction. We had made no attempt to go onto the thread that you were in we left you alone to do your own thing but you didn't give us the same consideration.

I have no bloody clue as to what thread you say you 'left me alone' is I WAS NOT ON ANY OTHER THREAD!

paddyann Fri 09-Jun-17 13:38:46

grannypiper given that Kez Dugdale urged labour voters to vote tory and that even with that the tories still only have 22% of seats I think you can see the MAJORITY of scots are reasonably happy with how the SNP are running the country.Of course there are issues and criticisms and that is normal ...ALL governments should be criticised where due .But in the main the SNP are doing good things here ...hence the large influx of people from the south in the past two years to take advantage of our better health service and free Uni education. They will have supported unionists in WM election BUT they'll vote SNP for Holyrood ...watch and see !

Luckylegs9 Fri 09-Jun-17 13:40:33

I think Corby is already beginning to shake that money tree for the freebies, or he might wait until he is given the key to no 10, he appears to think he has won. Conservatives have taken such a battering, poor miscalculation to call a very poorly run election. Just got to look to the future, everything passes.

Interesting particularly when the Tories tried to slate Corbyn for his connections in Northern Ireland.

I know dj May cozying up with those connected to the paramilitaries. That's the sort of line that they usually throw at Labour

VIOLETTE Fri 09-Jun-17 13:58:52

Exactly ,,,surprise surprise ! When it suits her, TM will get into bed with anybody even though she criticised others for so doing ........ Disastrous result for all of us ex pats ! If the wonderful IDS and DD have their way, apart from losing the WFA a couple of years ago we are not standing to lose healthcare ......may as well go and dig a hole in the garden ...

daphnedill Fri 09-Jun-17 14:05:53

One thing progressive politicians need to do is dispel the myths that the national budget is like a household budget. The idea has become embedded in the national psyche. Don't ever forget that one person's debt is another person's income and that a country with its own sovereign currency can never go bankrupt.

durhamjen Fri 09-Jun-17 14:05:57

Anyone still interested in PR...

CleopatraSoup Fri 09-Jun-17 14:09:51

The Nasty Party teams up with The Other Nasty Party.

Hypocrites!

She'll be gone within the week.

whitewave Fri 09-Jun-17 14:12:58

I think the swing in the UK is definately away from the right. Ukip gone, austerity rejected and hardBrexit rejected. Labours manifesto accepted by a wide margin in the U.K.

durhamjen Fri 09-Jun-17 14:20:02

Mayhem definitely has no mandate for getting rid of human rights.

Rigby46 Fri 09-Jun-17 14:21:44

Lucky Tessie has clearly forgotten she didn't get an overall majority - she didn't even mention the GE in her speech. perhaps she blames the unicorn

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 14:22:05

The economy is not at all like a household, of course, precisely because a household has a distinct income and expenditure, but in the economy as whole one person’s spend is another person’s income. This transforms the way we have to get people to think because in this case cutting spend simply cuts someone else’s income and negates any benefit as a result. What is more, there is no limit to the amount of money there can be in the economy: the state has the unique right to make it from scratch.

Maisie and Daphne this is exactly what the LP need get out and explain and but also journalists need to stop repeating the Tory mantra and explain the reality of the economy.

Rigby46 Fri 09-Jun-17 14:22:52

Come come come dj you don't need a mandate to tear them up just strong and stable hands

HeyHo Fri 09-Jun-17 14:24:20

There should be a space on the voting paper so that we can register the following:

I do not wish to vote for any of the above

that way a representative turnout might happen.

Fitzy54 Fri 09-Jun-17 14:25:40

I think people are getting a bit carried away here. Labour lost. They have some momentum but so did the Tories last time and that has quickly disappeared.
DD borrowing too much can indeed decimate a sovereign economy, and has done in the past. Nobody I have come across has suggested that a country's economy is like that of a household. But that doesn't mean it can safely tax, borrow and spend with complete abandon.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 14:26:31

which is why putting up taxes on small businesses is a mistake because it inevitably puts up the price of the goods they produce, fewer people may purchase them resulting in loss of income and job loss

It really depends what it is being done for Jalima. If it will increase productivity it can be well worth while.
