She can't possibly stay - she's fatally wounded. Boris, Hammond and DD must be plotting as I post. Rudd a no-no, too close to her.

The Tories presented the election as a choice between May & Corbyn but I doubt if she demanded this presentation. I also doubt whether TM was alone in deciding to call a snap General Election, despite the Fixed Term Parliament Act.

Presumably those Cabinet ministers and MPs who went along with it all are equally to blame? They're all now up in arms and demanding May's head.

It would be interesting to know if any of them cautioned against a GE - I doubt it, they were probably so excited by the prospect of a landslide.

Yes; I like Rory Stewart but probably only because he makes great historical documentaries. I'd assume that he's a great constituency MP.

Elrel Sat 10-Jun-17 01:49:50

I think Rory Stewart, Carlisle and the Borders, should be PM some time. Is anyone in his constituency? He seems good but what's he like as your MP?
Please, not Boris, he's hilarious but Brexit is not a joke. Not Gove either, shudders.

May called the election in order to strengthen her hand in Brexit negotiations. Given that her objective was to obtain more seats, this election has been an absolute disaster for the Conservative Party in general and May in particular as it has done the exact opposite of strengthening her hand.

Given the amount of smearing and nastiness aimed at Corbyn, particularly from the mainstream media, I think the result achieved for Labour has been a triumph.

It seems that all political commentators agree that to rely on the DUP for support is a very dangerous manoeuvre which completely undermines the government's neutral stance - something that is necessary in order to maintain the very fragile political balance in Northern Ireland.

Corbyn can hardly be blamed for the mess we're in now - it was May that called the election.

There's not one political commentator across the spectrum that thinks she's here for anything but the short haul whilst they regroup and plot. There is no way she could govern with that bigoted rabble for even a few months let alone five years. There are huge constitutional issues anyway about her working with the DUP given the power sharing agreement.

MaizieD Fri 09-Jun-17 23:26:40

Oh roses. you are so innocent!

The tories won't rally round her at all. They'll put up with her until they're confident of being able to get rid of her without losing power. She's humiliated them with this GE, she's insulted their intelligence by keeping them in the dark over her 'plan' for Brexit (along with the rest of the country) and she's proved to be weak, inconsistent and lacking in judgement. Not to mention incompetent as Home Secretary. She'll go...

daphnedill Fri 09-Jun-17 23:12:12

Do better for whom?

May chose not to trust them before the election. I doubt if they'll forget that.

rosesarered Fri 09-Jun-17 22:48:45

Oh I do realise that Maizie it will make things more difficult for her certainly, but she will still be ( if she chooses to be) the PM. whereas Corbyn cannot be PM.
In my view she should carry on and I hope she will do.The Conservatives would do better to rally round with Brexit negotiations starting soon.

Dyffryn Fri 09-Jun-17 22:45:33

If Boris is the bookies favourite we will be as bad as America on voting in Trump. He will never be forgiven for the £350 million a week promise to the NHS which was an absolute lie.

daphnedill Fri 09-Jun-17 22:44:21

No, I don't think they have. Suggesting they would is pure speculation.

daphnedill Fri 09-Jun-17 22:43:25

I can't imagine anybody with any sense would want the job, although I expect the 1922 committee will find some poor sucker. It might be somebody practically unknown, as Cameron was when he was elected.

MaizieD Fri 09-Jun-17 22:42:05

I don't think Sinn Fein have ever taken their seats have they dd?

MaizieD Fri 09-Jun-17 22:40:46

Labour have brought about a hung parliament, roses which makes life much more difficult for May. Not only for Brexit but also for her plans for decimation of public services That's why people are glad about the result.

May has 'morally' lost, anyway. She was so confident of coming back with a thumping great majority. Bad judgement and wasted precious time when she should have been concentrating on Brexit. The tories won't forgive her, the knives are being sharpened even now. I bet she won't see this year out as PM.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 09-Jun-17 22:37:17

I really can't think of anyone who could replace May. She seemed like the least worst at the time - remember Andrea Leadsome was one choice. I have a feeling they have until September to find someone. Apparently Boris is the bookies favourite.

daphnedill Fri 09-Jun-17 22:29:21

That's precisely why Sinn Fein probably won't take their seats - unless the DUP provokes them.

daphnedill Fri 09-Jun-17 22:28:07

There's already a new PM.

Anniebach Fri 09-Jun-17 22:18:18

I am sure Sin Fein would have entered Westminster to support him Roses, they owe him .

rosesarered Fri 09-Jun-17 22:13:45

Kitty.... you, and I and Fitzy have all reminded posters that Ahem! Labour actually lost this GE not won it.grin
May will be PM again and Corbyn back on the Opposition benches, if the DUP agree ( they will.) to make up the number (there are ten of them.)
Corbyn did better than expected, but as the number he reached was 262 then even with all the rest, SNP, Green, Indie he couldn't reach the number of 326.

Jalima1108 Fri 09-Jun-17 17:42:22

I didn't mean you for PM daphnedill - I meant have you got a suggestion?

Jalima1108 Fri 09-Jun-17 17:40:41

Maybe Jalima could predict the outcome, having been so right about a hung parliament!
I think daphnedill predicted it too! grin

As I once wrote across a ballot paper:
None of the Above

I just don't know
daphnedill?

annsixty Fri 09-Jun-17 17:03:38

Trump is finding out the same.
Two members of one of the houses are starting impeachment proceedings or trying anyway.

whitewave Fri 09-Jun-17 16:40:36

For in the national interest read in my interests or in the partys interest

trisher Fri 09-Jun-17 16:37:54

"Strong and stable" has now been replaced with 'in the national interest' said it about 5 times in a short statement. She doesn't seem aware that over half the nation want to see the back of her

Deedaa Fri 09-Jun-17 16:33:31

grinDidn't take George long to stick the knife in I find myself warming to him
