Now this really be worth doing!!

Let's start with the QS.

What will be left out/watered down! Not sure how they will explain it away as it's in the manifesto. Probably say something like "Brexit and all it's complications will mean that stuff will have to be shelved"

Fox hunting - out
Triple lock - remains
Social care - out

I actually shouted when she said that about work being the way out of poverty. Really made my grandson jump.
I just called her a stupid woman - I don't swear, if I can help it!
"Doesn't she realise....? Wasn't she listening.....?"

Poor lad.

Why is she always so proud of taking millions out of paying tax?
All it means is that those millions don't earn enough to pay tax, i.e., less than £11,500.

It did seem a bit planted I felt Tegan but they are in all out mode to stabilise a weak PM.

Tegan2 Wed 19-Jul-17 14:08:07

Not sure about Ken Clarkes question to her. I did wonder if the only way he was allowed to take a swipe at brexit was to take a swipe at the Labour Party at the same time [although it was only the latter comment that was picked up by the PM].

GracesGranMK2 Wed 19-Jul-17 13:28:02

I think that may be where I turned the sound offblush - but it just proves it is still just a repeat of the unthought-out sound bites.

whitewave Wed 19-Jul-17 13:15:35

She also said the best way out of poverty is work!!!! Dear oh dear

GracesGranMK2 Wed 19-Jul-17 13:00:00

Thanks for the headup on Legatum Jen.

Watching the government - or rather T May - on PMQs I just wonder if they realise that people just switch their sound off when, as she has just done, they fail to answer to their issues and just try and attack the other side.

I thought JC put this question well. "Does the Prime Minister not realise that her talk of a strong economy doesn't remotely match the reality that millions of people face with low wages and poverty at home" May doesn't realise and that is the problem. I am sure too that a large tranche of poor pensioners are fed up with being told how rich pensioners have got over the last years. All she could come out with was what Labour's policy might do but people can make up their own minds about that. She really doesn't get it and doesn't give any hope that she ever will.

More government corruption.

"The institute has established a special commission on trade that consists of more than 20 people with different “trade” backgrounds. It is run by a British American director. The Legatum member who has just been nominated the UK’s new chief trade negotiation adviser is a New Zealander. The funding of the institute comes from a foundation that is part of a Dubai-based private investment group. So much for the UK “taking back control”.

Unlike thinktanks like the Center for European Reform which knows more about the EU than the whole cabinet put together, the common characteristic of most of the Legatum trade commission seems to be not having worked at any time within the EU or even directly with it. I have negotiated myself for the EU on many occasions on trade, and I have seen how shocked negotiators from other countries become when they realise how difficult it is to negotiate with 27 countries – with their own institutions and legal system – at the same time. "

Help!

GracesGranMK2 Tue 18-Jul-17 21:40:02

Oh crumbs Welshwife. Legatum seem to be out of the same mould as the two advisors who May allowed to out-rank elected ministers. Miriam González Durántez certainly has a point although I would want more that just business to be involved.

Primrose65 Tue 18-Jul-17 20:25:29

Thought provoking article, thanks welshwife

"With a letter of no confidence already in circulation but only a small number of signatures so far"
www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jul/17/may-likely-to-face-autumn-bid-by-some-tory-mps-to-topple-her

Interesting that she has been given the OK to sack cabinet members for 'disloyalty'. Who will get the chop first?

durhamjen Tue 18-Jul-17 17:37:48

Done it, Rigby.

However, this needs to be on here.
The government is likely to be taken to court because they are using a copyright photo of Corbyn to criticise him about his stance on university fees without permission.
Looking forward to that!

whitewave Tue 18-Jul-17 17:27:15

Yes I have been thinking the same there is sooooo much going on at the moment and soooooo much worthy of its own thread.

I have decided that this country is going through a period of total insanity.

Rigby46 Tue 18-Jul-17 17:24:20

dj will you start a thread on that? I feel as though we are missing out ( well I am) on a range of topics because they are all being thrown into this one thread.

durhamjen Tue 18-Jul-17 17:06:19

www.theguardian.com/society/2017/jul/18/government-denying-sexually-abused-children-compensation

This is appalling and something needs to be done about it. Children cannot assent to abuse.

whitewave Tue 18-Jul-17 16:43:24

There is a letter of no confidence in May circulating.

She is expected to face a challenge to her leadership in the autumn.

This is only expected to happen if there is a better candidate. So that's a no then.

They don't want a general election so I think it unlikely anyway but who knows.

Mays recent re- launch does not appear to have convinced her party, but they are definately dithering about the best way forward.

Primrose65 Tue 18-Jul-17 12:52:39

OK. We're all talking about the Marmot report then.
Here's the actual report - it does not mention austerity

www.instituteofhealthequity.org/file-manager/MarmotIndicators2017/marmot-indicators-briefing-17-july-2017-final-copy.pdf

He was asked if it was caused by austerity - he said 'possibly'.
That's not the same as 'yes'

Ana Tue 18-Jul-17 12:46:21

I expect you'd need to read the entire Marmot report to ascertain the exact wording. Journalists will put their own slant on the findings, as will GN posters.

Ana Tue 18-Jul-17 12:43:21

www.newscientist.com/article/2140907-rising-life-expectancy-in-england-has-slowed-since-recession/

This is the report I read, which doesn't blame any one cause.

Welshwife Tue 18-Jul-17 12:34:02

Personally I only heard the man talking this morning but here is a link to the BBC report I found which say that it is 'entirely possible' it could be linked to austerity and needs to be looked at urgently.

www.bbc.com/news/health-40608256

Primrose65 Tue 18-Jul-17 12:30:35

Which report?
We could be talking at cross purposes here.
I can only find the Marmot report.
I don't understand why you can't say which report you're talking about.

Welshwife Tue 18-Jul-17 12:16:29

Misleading statement from?

Primrose65 Tue 18-Jul-17 12:14:04

I think we must be talking about different reports.
Which report was it?
