So it's okay that Kensington couldn't cope, being a Tory borough and not used to this sort of situation, so a Labour controlled council had to take over.

Like Corbyn said, when there are problems at Heathrow, they manage to find enough rooms for plane loads of people.
Lots of hotels round Kensington have suites, not just rooms, big enough for families.
Imagine the kudos some hotel chain could get, instead of people being put up in rooms without en-suites. They will get paid for it. There are millions of pounds in emergency aid from people, just for this situation.

Exactly anniebach. The initial response to the disaster was chaotic, but so was the situation.Will it be handled better in future, who knows, but events of this magnitude do not happen often thank God.The community and churches were there from the start which is what I would expect, and coped marvellously.
Everybody had food and a place to sleep, then hotel rooms were allocated.
Information was hard to come by for survivors, but again, that is entirely understandable.I have massive sympathy for both the survivors and the families who lost their lives, but because we have to concentrate on the living, I do believe that homes will be found for them, they won't be living in a hotel forever.
It won't be easy, and I can't see that they can be housed together or even all in the same borough, but they won't be thrown onto the streets.

Iam, I am not defending the council but that first march on the town hall was spontaneous , there must have been plans for the socialist workers party to join and I have been shocked by the conspiracy theories posted in this forum . I don't know London apart from the west end, how many tower blocks and housing estates are there for this plot to get all those tenants out of the city? No one here seems to know how many homes are needed for the tower victims, there is no discussion about the number of homes needed and the number available, I feel so sorry for the homeless but is it possible to find that number of houses in a week?

I see you are not denying that you were incorrect although you go on in your reply to show even more lack of understanding, for people who have escaped with their lives from these conditions, by thinking it OK that they are left to fend for themselves for days.

Did anyone watch hospital tonight? They had some of the victims from the Westminster attack.
Now they will have Grenfell Tower victims.
The last thing that was said on the programme tonight was that they hoped there would not be another incident like Westminster, but realistically knew there would be.

Annie, the SWP, respect, IMG and other left groups are always visible. Like you, I'm not a fan but that doesn't mean they don't have the freedom to join the protests about all the issues under discussion.
The local community, Faith groups seem to be the most active group. I'm more concerned about the leader of the council who insisted the emergency plan was working effectively, when it so clearly wasn't.

I have been in situations where people have had to be evacuated at speed. It really doesn't need to be this poorly organised.

For days all they got was £10. Those who were put in hotels only had breakfast provided - how far was £10 supposed to go? Those who stayed in the sports hall were better fed and cared for because it was done by the community.

You act as an apologist for this government but show now real sympathy for those who have been burnt out of their homes, watched as their relatives and friends die and were then left to do the best they could, thankfully cared for by the community. This attitude would be contemptible if I thought you had any real understanding of the situation.

I agree with roses ,we don't know what is going on behind the scenes, does anyone know how many homes need to be found and how many available houses are in the vicinity of the burned out block of flats ?

I'm watching itv news (BBC unavailable). Cressida Dick, chief of met police is talking about the fact her force is overstretched and asking for an end to the cuts to police and enough resources to do their job. Other chief constables, including Manchester is saying the same. Same old left wing senior police officers?

I accept I'm on the left politically but if I see this government doing anything I see as good for the country, I'm happy to say so. It looks as tho their plans to reintroduce grammar schools (or secondary moderns as I see it) are abandoned, along with many other proposals in the manifesto that led to the government losing its majority and a surge in support for the Labour Party manifesto

It's only a matter of days since the fire, London is the most overcrowded city in the UK, so I can't see what more can be done, and in any case none of us know how much work is going on behind the scenes to rehouse people.
