The maximum council tax payment for a Band H house in K & C is £2124, which is peanuts for somebody in a £10 million + property. £2143 would be enough for council tax in Liverpool - but only for a Band E property.

I don't call publishing a list of places to go " coordination" - the places people were directed to were manned by volunteers who were overwhelmed. Loads of donations dumped in the street, now put in storage, no one really knowing what to do. People really need some"emergency action". Yes, this is fortunately an extreme and unusual situation, but maybe all our local,authorities should have some plans in place for major incidents.

Was Kensington and a Chelsea one of those areas which had less cuts that the poor northern boroughs? Apologies if I'm misinformed.

Hats off to the met police for publishing the information, but thumbs down to the council who should be sorting out the relief effort, but according to reports, are nowhere to be seen, it could be that, because of cut backs they haven't any spare capacity, but they should just come out and say so. K and C is the wealthiest borough in the country, but has one of the lowest council tax rates.

I think the point suzie is making is that K & C council seems to be doing very little except running around trying to cover their backs.

What's wrong with it being coordinated by the police?
They have the expertise to deal with things like this.

There's a lady on Twitter, who manages student housing in London. Students have gone home, so the bedsits are empty. She's informed K & C council, but they're being slow to allocate them, so she's appealing directly to the public.

It's only a short term solution. In the next couple of weeks, K & C council need to abandon its social cleansing policy and make a proper commitment to these people. They could easily raise council tax payments for rebuilding.

The council have housed some people in temporary hotel accomodation according to one report. The lack of joined up thinking is appalling. There is no one to coordinate the relief efforts other ehundreds willing to help. There are up to 120 poor families homeless. There are ove 1000 empty luxury homes in K and C. Scandal or what?

I haven't heard or read any news today until I saw channel 4 news. I can't be alone in finding the images harrowing. I can't imagine what it's like to watch the fire, to see images of burned out interiors when your loved ones are missing.
The anger of local residents is growing, understandably.
I understand the legal position in respect of David Lammy's suggestion that empty housing bought by landlords in other countries as investments be requisitioned as housing for those made homeless because of the fire. If those owners had integrity or compassion, they'd make the offer themselves.
There is a real issue about foreign investors buying up property, pushing up prices and rents whilst leaving properties empty. Is it beyond the government to find a legal way of stopping that?
I feel as strongly about second homes on the coast, in the lakes and other desirable rural areas. We all know wages are low there, rental properties hard to find.
In addition, I would be delighted if the sale of social housing was banned.

My recording has just got to the Lily Allan - she was good! I think she is right that the will have to give a more realistic figure of those who have died even if it is surrounded by ifs and buts.
