Awful news, just seen this on the news.
Thoughts with everyone involved including firefighters

I think Corbyn has the backing to speak up for them, with the ex DPP in his shadow cabinet.

whitewave Thu 15-Jun-17 16:58:39

Because of the legal aid cuts they couldn't afford lawyers.

If they can't afford lawyers, they have to rely on people like Corbyn and Khan to speak for them.

annie I should stop digging if I were you whilst you can still see over the top of the hole

Fine if these rich people from abroad want to "own" properties in London, but what I object to is that they don't live in them, or even visit them, so they are not contributing to the London economy. Many of the dwellings are empty and are bought off plan for investment purposes. There should be a rule that these people are made to pay heavily for the privilege or they should move in themselves for a certain number of weeks a year.

Anniebach Thu 15-Jun-17 16:45:11

Good grief, Corbyn stated ' I will speak up for you' he will use anyone. Come the enquiry the lawyers will do the speaking up surely

whitewave Thu 15-Jun-17 16:43:05

lillie yes it probably is - but I know, as does Lammy that it can't be done but he was trying to make a point. One that completely appeared to go over some people's heads.

Anniebach Thu 15-Jun-17 16:42:46

If requisition of empty property's is acceptable then those who cannot get homes in parts of the country which is swamped with holiday homes should simply move in?

Lillie Thu 15-Jun-17 16:33:04

Those who don't know the area, you will have noticed that outside the cordoned-off zone where the TV crews are, is a very desirable neighbourhood (Notting Hill) and it just puts into sharp focus how the Haves & Have-nots live, cheek by jowl.

Sorry, but those of us who live in London do NEED each other, regardless of race, religion, social status, income, political persuasion etc. We live in harmony for the most part and what you see is what you get. There is no real envy or disdain regarding possessions/housing, there is very often respect both ways. It is what it is. I haven't heard any unkind comments from the victims about the rich, many of whom have given support themselves.

" the empty properties owned by wealthy abroad, should be requisitioned for the homeless". This is a good point, whitewave.

whitewave Thu 15-Jun-17 16:31:07

Oh dear oh dear!

Anniebach Thu 15-Jun-17 16:30:16

It was a daft thing to say, people cannot have their properties taken from them for someone else to live in , I assumed he didn't study law,

whitewave Thu 15-Jun-17 16:29:24

Yes gg that is trending on social media.

Anniebach Thu 15-Jun-17 16:27:27

And Daphne as you had to bring Aberfan into this , I don't just remember it I was there and the inquiry was not years later , it was 1967, less than a year .

Sorry posters but errors should be correct when they are posted as fact

gillybob Thu 15-Jun-17 16:26:47

Theresa May Snubs Grenfell Tower Survivors As Jeremy Corbyn Is Mobbed In Street

rosesarered Thu 15-Jun-17 16:23:57

A silly meaningless tweet as the properties are owned by somebody, if you own a holiday villa or flat in Spain, how would it be a good idea for the government there to steal it, or is he saying it should be a forced sale or a squat?
Politicians should count to ten before they tweet, or even better, don't tweet at all.

whitewave Thu 15-Jun-17 16:16:49

Tweet from David Lammy

" the empty properties owned by wealthy abroad, should be requisitioned for the homeless"

Anniebach Thu 15-Jun-17 16:14:39

mmmm, corbyns integrity shines out in his photographs with IRA members , he does humble so well

Anniebach Thu 15-Jun-17 16:10:07

You are mistaken about Aberfan Daphne, all who failed us were named with the exception of those who stole the telephone wiring so the men on the tip couldn't warn those at the bottom , they were not named because they were never found .

What was unjust was there was no retribution apart from being help responsible

Rigby46 Thu 15-Jun-17 16:00:42

BD = end. I don't need to apologise for typo because Lara says they are aloud

Rigby46 Thu 15-Jun-17 15:59:07

Wow ab the Labour Givernment was elected in Feb 1974, rewrote all the building regs and arranged the finance and building of GT before the BD of the year. That's some going isn't it? Respect

whitewave Thu 15-Jun-17 15:51:23

In relation to the merriment over Corbyns photos.

What I will say is this.

What ever anyone says about Corbyn, what has struck me most of all is how people from all areas of life who have met him say how genuine and caring he is with a high degree of integrity. This includes politicians from all sides.

One assumes that this is what shines through in the photos.
