Awful news, just seen this on the news.
Thoughts with everyone involved including firefighters

Very good news.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 21-Jun-17 14:56:26

Thank Thanks

GracesGranMK2 Wed 21-Jun-17 14:55:38

Thank Alima and Jalima for the link. I think keeping as many together as possible will be good for them as no one else really knows how it feels to be in their position.

I do hope they set up a "Second Responder" service now that can go in to emergency situation. Hopefully never this again but floods and natural disasters cannot be avoided.

Happy to read that about the flats. I hope they go someway to comforting those poor people after what they've been through.

rosesarered Wed 21-Jun-17 14:49:38

Good news indeed.smile

news.

Alima Wed 21-Jun-17 14:43:06

Yes, a complex. Would do a link but don't know how. On BBC News page. Probably on other new pages too.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 21-Jun-17 14:40:45

Alima that is good news. Are they together do you know? It would be lovely if they were.

Jalima1108 Wed 21-Jun-17 14:31:44

Two bits of better news smile

Alima Wed 21-Jun-17 14:30:30

Just seen as breaking news, 68 one and two bedroom flats have been acquired for the survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire. How wonderful, the luxury flats are in Kensington and although not big enough for all the families it is certainly a start isn't it? Shows that the Government is doing something too.

I'm so glad to hear the "Day of rage" was a damp squib Rigby . Some people just seem hell bent on causing trouble and deliberately hijacking such a tragic event is the pits of the earth.

Rigby46 Wed 21-Jun-17 13:15:32

From what I hear on the radio, so far at least, the Day of Rage is a bit of a damp squib and the people at GT have been very vociferous in asking them not to cause trouble. Let's hope it doesn't become a problem. The Britain First people tried to cause trouble after Manchester etc and that didn't succeed either.

Rigby46 Wed 21-Jun-17 13:11:25

I've heard from HQ - they thanked me for confirming what was being said re the PM ( which I had done in a previous email to them) Obviously I've been told not to send PMs like that again as it is a form of bullying. Im not being banned .

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 21-Jun-17 13:11:02

Fair enough. I'm not normally so prickly.

Ana Wed 21-Jun-17 13:03:33

No, the thought that you'd contacted GNHQ didn't enter my mind Wilma. I got the impression from GNHQ's post that they would be taking their time to go through various reports and that perhaps we should give this thread a rest until they had.

Obviously, I've got that wrong!

As you were.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 21-Jun-17 13:02:48

Jalima which MPs have encouraged it?

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 21-Jun-17 13:00:46

Ana to start with roses said she'd asked GNHQ to look at some of the posts on this thread, but if you're really asking if I contacted GNHQ, then the answer is yes, I did. I asked them to have another look at the thread because it had turned into a slanging match. Even after GNHQ posted again, people continued to post about individuals. Several people have tried to get back on topic, but the other discussion is still going on. If you have a problem with me contacting GNHQ, then tough.

David Lammy is trying to get a written, as opposed to oral assurance, from K&C that they will not apply the 'intentionally homeless rule' to GT residents. This seems to be the minimum they could offer.

Jalima1108 Wed 21-Jun-17 12:48:08

I'm not sure I can support the Day of Rage protest planned to coincide with the Queen's speech. It's not that I don't agree with the basic idea, it's just reading the press it sounds a bit like the anarchists have taken over.

I agree Wilma - and to be encouraged by certain MPs who are in a prime position to hold the Councils, the Government of the day to account if investigations and resultant actions are not thorough enough is reprehensible. They have an alternative agenda and these poor people are being used by the protest groups.

"I always remember talking to a young student in Paris who announced that in France they act as citizens but in the UK we act as subjects

The French may have had their Revolution but it hasn't stopped them rioting. And in France some citizens are more equal than others despite liberté, égalité, fraternité.

daphnedill Wed 21-Jun-17 12:44:14

That includes me. I have also explained my reasons for reporting to GN.

Ana Wed 21-Jun-17 12:40:52

Suit yourself, trisher.

I personally haven't reported any posts on this thread, and very rarely do so on others, but obviously some people have.

dbDB77 Wed 21-Jun-17 12:38:16

Thank you Wilma for the Guardian link - I think all these demonstrations calling for the government to be overthrown are very worrying so soon after a general election. They threaten democracy. All the calls for "peaceful" protest do not fit with the rhetoric of the organisers who want justice "by any means". Glad I'm not in London to witness it.

daphnedill Wed 21-Jun-17 12:38:12

The topic is "London Fire".

trisher Wed 21-Jun-17 12:29:48

I have decided to remove myself from this thread. If people want to report posts that is entirely up to them, personally if someone attacks me I am inclined to either ignore or fight back. I strongly disapprove of this reporting culture and intend to leave any thread where this is resorted to. What others chose to do is entirely up to them, but I do think the only way to encourage free speech on GN is by acting.
