Former leadership rival Owen Smith appointed to Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary in Jeremy Corbyn’s reshuffle

Announcing the changes to his Shadow Cabinet, Mr Corbyn said: “I am delighted to announce four appointments to fill shadow cabinet vacancies. I look forward to working with the strengthened shadow cabinet as we prepare a government in waiting to carry out our manifesto for the many not the few.

No need to update my language Rigsby, i dislike foul language so certaintly will not suddenly start doing a McDonald

Rigby46 Tue 11-Jul-17 17:18:50

well maybe you should update your language ab and anyway, why should breeding apply to the aristocracy? Or any group of people? Utter claptrap

Rigby46 Tue 11-Jul-17 17:16:47

Well I'm with ilove and I don't understand the use of it in conversation because it's a pathetic outdated concept ( other than when used with animals). GOK what ab meant when she used it first on this thread. Just another go at JC/JM probably. I think using words properly and challenging the misuse of words is far from boring in fact - what I do get bored with on GN is the Humpty Dumpty approach to the use and meaning of words

Anniebach Tue 11-Jul-17 17:12:04

I seem to have confused things, whilst breeding is the usual term for the aristocracy, to me it means how a person was brought up, my great aunt is to blame , someone speaking or behaving in an inappropriate manner she dismissed as 'lack of good breeding '

Anniebach Tue 11-Jul-17 17:04:47

Oh, thank you primrose

Primrose65 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:56:56

Actually, I might be wrong in my interpretation of the meaning of 'breeding' in someone elses' post. Perhaps it was in a political context - after all, Blair and Brown could be considered Labour Party aristocracy (or Grandees)

Primrose65 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:51:14

What the f**k

Anniebach Tue 11-Jul-17 16:50:57

What does WTF stand for please?

Primrose65 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:50:57

Well Rigby46, it's not a concept I subscribe to. In my experience, class boundaries are pretty permeable when it comes to bad behaviour. But I do understand the use of it in conversation. I'm sorry you don't like the dictionary definition, but I didn't write that.

I'm sure you do understand the point I was trying to make though.

And I totally agree with you - this is boring.

Anniebach Tue 11-Jul-17 16:49:54

Bored Rigsby? explains the sighs

Ilovecheese Tue 11-Jul-17 16:48:28

Actually I am still cross about the use of the word 'breeding'. Good manners conferred by the heredity aristocracy! I cannot trace my ancestry back more than two generations, so have no idea about where I stand in the pecking order. But that has no bearing on my manners, or any other aspects of my character.

Rigby46 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:36:46

Good manners conferred by heredity - WTF ? ( clearly I have no breeding - well no good breeding anyway) grin

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 16:34:51

primrose you obviously haven't spent much time in Tory company grin

Rigby46 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:34:24

Primrose that's a really really stupid concept isn't it in the 21st century?

Rigby46 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:33:30

Really really really boring ab

Primrose65 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:28:29

Sorry all. It's not a word I usually use, but in this instance, the standard dictionary definition will suffice. "The good manners regarded as characteristic of the aristocracy and conferred by heredity".
This thread really typifies the issues in the Labour Party - so much infighting about trivia that doesn't matter and a total inability to engage on the point in question. I despair at times.

Anniebach Tue 11-Jul-17 16:27:14

Just distraction primrose, takes attention from Corbyn and the three Mrs Corbyns and the shadow chancellor not having the ability to conduct himself in public with a scrap of dignity

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 16:16:33

grin breeding. Do they go to stud? Are they registered with the Kennel club?

Rigby46 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:12:04

Primrose upper class, breeding? What on earth are you talking about? What on earth is 'breeding' unless you're into racing horses or pedigree dogs? Utterly meaningless and ridiculous words

Rigby46 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:09:48

'values of good breeding' what on earth does that phrase mean? Breeding? WTAF!

Primrose65 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:09:34

Seamus Milne doesn't suffer from lack of breeding, he's as upper class as they come! And please don't assume that he was caught out the first time - that's improbable.
It's not about throwing anything at Corbyn. He's not responsible for anyone else's behaviour. He's just responsible for how it deals (or doesn't) with it.

Rigby46 Tue 11-Jul-17 16:07:56

As ever Eloe (nb*Ana*) well said. I'm clearly missing something funny on here with all the grin. You are obsessed with Corbyn. ab and therefore completely unable to be factual or balanced about him.

Anniebach Tue 11-Jul-17 16:05:28

Eleothan, we don't have the same values of good breeding obviously

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 16:04:53

eloesmile an oasis of calm and common sense in a sea of hypocracy

Eloethan Tue 11-Jul-17 16:01:07

Did you complain anniebach when Jess Phillips amusedly recounted the time she told Diane Abbott to "Fuck off" and when asked what the response was, she said with a chuckle,"She fucked off".

Simon Danczuk was suspended following a number of rather unsavoury incidents involving ex-wives and partners. Then he sent "sexually explicit" texts to a 17 year old woman would had asked him for a job in his constituency office.

Seamus Milne has been married for 25 years so it seems he isn't a serial philanderer. We know full well that he isn't the first man - or woman - to commit adultery. It is just something else to chuck at Corbyn - though goodness knows why. After all, Conservative MPs Boris Johnson, John Major, Edwina Currie, Zac Goldsmith, Steve Double (evangelical Christian and former pastor), Tim Yeo, etc. etc. etc., have had affairs. In that, they are no different from many married people in the rest of the population and Labour and Lib Dem MPs, although those like John Major with his "Back to Basics" campaign are perhaps deservedly accused of being hypocrites. If we were to judge a party on that criteria, then we probably wouldn't support any party.

"Breeding" - like the "breeding" of members of our royal family and the aristocracy? I think you'll find there are not a shining example of faithfulness or decency.
