Did she contact the bank and/or the housing office and ask them to fix it as soon as she realised? The computer wouldn't associate her account with the fire - it would be an automatic payment with no human beings involved, same with the housing office, but banks are very good at sorting things out, given the chance.
I am sure that the reaction will be that she shouldn't have to ask someone to fix it, but neither the bank nor the people in the housing office are psychic.
I am also sure that someone will tell me, too, that I am "excusing the Tory" but how do you know that the person employed to administer the receipt of rents is a Tory? Or the person overseeing Direct Debits?
