Did you see on BBC News this evening that a couple of weeks ago the Fire Brigade wrote to ALL London councils about the risk of fire in tower blocks. I do not think it was totally to do with the cladding but a number of factors.

I find people with such a lax attitude to safety shameful and disgusting.

It is the government's role to set the standards. It didn't. It relaxed them and boasted about it.

So the government should race around checking every new and renovated building meets with all regulations,?

This thread is just used by some to score political points, shameful and it disgusts me.

Of course it's the responsibility of government to make sure that regulations are being enforced. Would you leave a bunch of two year olds to "play nicely" and let them get on with it for hours?

We might as well not have any laws and just let people do what they think they can get away with.

Except that K&C did not have a lack of funding. They had lots of money to pay for the fireretardant cladding.

No I haven't read it yet daphnedill but I will. Surely though a "culture of cutting red tape and self-regulation" is not something that can be laid at the door of the Government who ever may be in power if that has resulted in Gov. regulations being ignored. That is the sole responsibility of those choosing to ignore Gov. regulations.

The overall impression I've been given since this terrible tragedy is that it's the fault of the Gov's. austerity measures. If a lack of funding to LA's meant that the minimum safety regulations for cladding couldn't be met, surely it would have been better not to have fitted it at all.

I agree. Yes, we do know rosessarered. Watch the video I posted on this thread and read the article from the BBC. What I wrote is that that there are questions to answer and there certainly are.

According to News Night last night, it's not the Governments' regulations that are at fault it's the building industries regulators. Regarding cladding and insulation this as stipulated by the Government, should not be less than the minimum A2 for flamability.

Yet, plenty has been supplied and fitted with a lower rating of B2 which is below that stipulated by the Government. Where in some instances claims were made prior to fitting that a combination of lower grade materials would improve safety re flamability, not all carried out tests to ensure this was indeed the case before installation.

I've just come on to this thread and amthat according to Anniebach's post TM has been called a murderer. I agree with POGS this is not a one party problem, it's one hell of a problem for any council regardless of the political party that leads them, if under their watch Gov. guidelines have been circumvented.

Any party and/or individual who seeks to gain a political advantage in the wake of such a tragedy should hang their head in shame.

I am not 'sticking up' ( playground term!) for anybody , but the tests show that tower blocks and public buildings just about everywhere have been using similar cladding.Going back years, so not all to do with any 'austerity' measures.
Most people prefer to wait for the inquiry results before shouting 'evil Tories' as you are wont to do in almost every thread!
The faults cannot be hidden, it will all come out, and I suspect more than one council will come in for close scrutiny.

Do all the other tower blocks have fire alarms and sprinklers ? This is so cruel using death and grief for political jibes
