Andrea Leadsom

I turned on the BBC News this morning and could not believe what I saw. Andrea Leadsom had the nerve to say that the Media should get behind the Brexit negotiators presenting a united front against the EU. First she reckons that because 42% plus 40% voted for Tory and Labour that gives 82% in favour of a Brexit mandate. As for blaming the media for questioning them that smacks of dictatorship. Harping back to the referendum result which any reasonable person knows was seriously flawed.

How does she tick????

That media has to question government in a democracy, as regards Brexit and other matters they have not been outspoken enough. Which is why government has got away with it for so long.

If the government ( all parties in the HoC, not just the Tories) had any idea of what is best for this country they would cancel the Brexit result as being based upon misinformation and lies. As the anniversary of this catastrophic decision is upon us it is getting worse and worse and is going to be tying the government of the day, of whichever party, in administrative knots. The government will become moribund, and nothing will get done. I don't care how many on hear voted for Brexit, I still think you were wrong and I have yet to hear any good reason for leaving Europe. When Joe Public is interviewed by the media, all they can come up with is sound bites, meaningless comments about 'taking back control'. Of what? The loathsome Andrea is part of the cabal that told these lies and either is a liar or is a deluded fool, both of which disqualify her from public office. She is rude, ill informed and I truly despair at the intelligence of her constituents, ghastly bloody woman.

'a previously sensible electorate making weird choices'

What's wrong with asking Lillie what she meant by that, roses?
You obviously know what she means, but I don't.

Luckygirl Sat 24-Jun-17 16:10:14

Are "sensible" voters the ones who agree with you Lillie? smile

rosesarered Sat 24-Jun-17 14:39:09

That was to dj btw

rosesarered Sat 24-Jun-17 14:38:06

Sigh....

Welshwife Sat 24-Jun-17 14:36:21

Maybe the other countries can see what a disaster we are headed for! I have yet to see or hear anywhere one good reason for continuing with Brexit.
All the signs are the exact opposite - the most vociferous Brexiteers can only resort to calling anyone who does not agree with them unpatriotic or start getting really angry and rude.

rosesarered Sat 24-Jun-17 13:49:55

Good posts Lillie and niggly ??

durhamjen Sat 24-Jun-17 13:49:43

What weird choices, Lillie?

nigglynellie Sat 24-Jun-17 13:47:10

D.C. promised to abide by the results of the referendum and failed to put in safeguard percentages, turnout and so on. The H of C en masse agreed!!
So first past the past was the yardstick! The arrogance/ ignorance of MP's (includingJ.C,)from all sides is to blame for the situation we are now in, so perhaps they should ALL work collectively for the common good to get this country through the mess that they collectively created?! Now we wake up!!!!!

mcem Sat 24-Jun-17 13:34:36

Not much to be proud of right now!
Surely Twitter is only as right/left wing as its posters and every comment can be contradicted.

Lillie Sat 24-Jun-17 13:32:11

Maybe AL feels our country is becoming an international laughing stock with all the disagreements, arguments and disillusionment shown on tv and recorded in newspapers at the moment. We have a nation at odds with itself, a previously sensible electorate making weird choices and a royal family with no appetite for the job. Somehow there needs to be damage limitation, and mainstream media is not helping by constantly showing us to be unsettled and divided. No wonder the EU is taking advantage of us and chuckling in the current negotiations. Call it patriotism, call it what you like, but I think the media does need to portray us more as people with a pride in our country.

Ana Sat 24-Jun-17 12:53:45

And Twitter is not exactly bias-free.

Anniebach Sat 24-Jun-17 12:47:19

That's an insult to horses ,

whitewave Sat 24-Jun-17 11:00:42

It actually matters very little to the young whether the media is biased or not. They prefer their information straight from the horses mouth as it were by passing the gutter press, BBC etc.

kittylester Sat 24-Jun-17 10:55:12

As I have said before, IMHO, the media is left biased, therefore, it seems it's well balanced over all!

BlueBelle Sat 24-Jun-17 10:20:15

The media has been so right biased that it's laughable that she imagines that Farage even has a media slot on radio to spout his vile mouth

Baggs Sat 24-Jun-17 10:17:02

Well said, gaga, at 09:12

Jalima1108 Sat 24-Jun-17 09:59:07

Sunny Day? Lucky you

'Bring me sunshine' sunshine

rosesarered Sat 24-Jun-17 09:55:04

My opinion too Jalima ....which is why I will just grin at any personal remarks
(Well, it's a sunny day, the birds are singing etc.)

Jalima1108 Sat 24-Jun-17 09:50:24

Bit snarky this morning roses? Get out of bed on the wrong side?

[sigh] If you read rosesarered's posts they are in fact reasonable even if you don't agree with them.

Whilst not wishing to take sides, do we have to start going down the personal remarks road again?
There was enough trouble the other day.

As you wish, though, that is just my opinion.

Anniebach Sat 24-Jun-17 09:50:16

Yes, Rebel without a cause

Jalima1108 Sat 24-Jun-17 09:45:02

ps above post is IMHO

Jalima1108 Sat 24-Jun-17 09:44:15

And what right has she to tell us that we should be 'patriotic' and do what the tories want?
yggdrasil that's an odd remark because I thought the official Tory line was Remain, it was the rebels in all parties who wanted Brexit.

I thought many on GN liked rebels, Jeremy Corbyn is surely the ultimate rebel even though he has become mainstream?

daphnedill Sat 24-Jun-17 09:32:24

Bit snarky this morning roses? Get out of bed on the wrong side?

The point is that opinions differ, so why should the BBC only support the "official opinion"?

In any case, as dj has pointed out, fewer people than ever are influenced by MSM.

Rigby46 Sat 24-Jun-17 09:25:57

Exactly suzie . Patriotism is sometimes called the 'last refuge of the scoundrel' isn't it and with good reason.
