Don't forget the other cost of the election 3 months while the Brexit clock was already ticking so 1/8 of our negotiating time gone.

Rigby46 Mon 26-Jun-17 15:21:52

It would have been cheaper too-grin

A minority government will cause a lot less problems in the long run rather than team up with such a toxic crowd. May needs to show some spine, just as better PMs than her have done in the past.

Normal? We had an indefensible election which cost £130m. As a result of that election, the government now pays a £1bn bribe to NI. It will cause discord throughout GB and threaten the GFA . What cuts in services will W, S and E have to suffer for better services and lower taxes in NI? And does anyone think that there'll be no rebellious Tory MPs in the next few months?

rosesarered Mon 26-Jun-17 14:53:13

How can what be normal?
We have to have a Government and Corbyn just doesn't have the numbers even with all the other groups helping him.....so what do you suggest?

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 14:50:05

Are you kidding rose?

How can that be normal?

rosesarered Mon 26-Jun-17 14:43:35

Back to normality for a while, there has been enough insecurity.

rosesarered Mon 26-Jun-17 14:42:22

Well, all agreed now between the Government and the DUP.

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 13:31:01

Any Welsh or Scottish grans have an opinion?

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 13:28:21

Remember the hubris about the magic money tree!! What rot.

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 13:16:43

rig well given that we are always being told that cuts are necessary, we can only conclude that the money is being taken from other areas like the NHS.

What price Tory power? Was this in their manifesto? Would this have been voted for. Is it even democratic!

Rigby46 Mon 26-Jun-17 11:48:26

And what does that mean? And is it new money or money being taken away from - let's think - abortion and family planning services for starters?

trisher Mon 26-Jun-17 11:39:12

So it's 1billion and spending power of 1.5billion (whatever that means). What happens to the Good Friday agreement now is the problem.

Rigby46 Mon 26-Jun-17 11:20:05

It will just be another nail in her coffin - as if it isn't already well and truly nailed down already.

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 11:11:44

rigby I know. The ridiculous thing is they would have voted with the government anyway.

Blimey we are being governed by a load of lightweights!!

trisher Mon 26-Jun-17 11:10:39

DUP and Theresa have signed. Deal has been done (and so have we)

Rigby46 Mon 26-Jun-17 11:08:50

It will all end in tears sooner or later. Our democratic processes are being sold for a handful of silver ( or to be more exact £2bn). The honourable thing to do would have been to form a minority government. When push came to shove, the DUP would have supported TM - why would they not? Now they will continue to threaten and blackmail - everything that TM gives them will have the seeds of destruction within it - others will ask 'why not us?' And quite rightly so.

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 11:06:13

Be interesting how the other countries react

Riverwalk Mon 26-Jun-17 11:00:45

Seems Arlene's back in town and an announcement on the deal is to be made today.

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 10:19:41

Supposed to be near completion.

The rumours are the DUP mainly achieved an economic package.

Including increased capital spending on health and education, granting of special lower corporation tax status, and possible abolition of air passenger duty tax in the region.

Controversial elements include

Military covenant which will promise to give priority f in health, education and housing to children whose parents are in the military.

Can you imagine that being accepted in the mainland?!

Sinn Fein are opposed.

We know that there are many in the Tory party that are absolutely horrified . Patten called the DUP "toxic"

And that the Tory was in danger of becoming known once agin the nasty party. (I would have thought it scored highly on that rating already)

How that all works in with the Barnet formula goodness only knows

Riverwalk Mon 26-Jun-17 10:01:39

I can't find the thread on this - probably a zombie one by now, they've been going on so long!

It's all gone very quiet - maybe the DUP have again stopped taking phone calls from their 'confidence & supply' partners.

Anyone heard anything?
