If you have a worry/problem or are concerned about an injustice ,voice your concerns and the person you voice them to replies 'I Will Deal With It' what would you expect?

FB is a bubble Jalima, where you only see what you want to see and have very much or close to your own views repeated back to you.

I have a feeling that is why some people find having their views challenged on GN so difficult.

MaizieD Wed 26-Jul-17 22:09:17

Are you on the right thread, Jalima?

The summing up could be considered one-sided, as this statement could be considered opne-sided:

(apart from Jacob Rees Mogg who we can't shut up, but everybody thinks is a joke anyway)

Judging by what I keep seeing on FB ( a FB friend is obviously a fan of J R-M and belongs to a FB group!) he has a great many supporters, so not everybody thinks he is a joke I presume.

It's quite interesting to read another point of view.

Are we allowed to criticise May for this? She has definitely not dealt with this.

Eloethan

I'm not denying that Cable tweeted that Corbyn should apologise, I'm just pointing out that he didn't say that Corbyn had broken a pledge.

It's all bl**dy political games, anyway.

Anyone with half a brain and a reading age higher than their shoe size can hear or read what Corbyn 'actually' said and find that it wasn't what people are trying to make out he said.

durhamjen Wed 26-Jul-17 20:14:18

Not at allworrying that 26% didn't know. What it means is that he didn't promise to cut their debts. If he had, it would be clearcut.

durhamjen Wed 26-Jul-17 20:12:35

In the meantime Tories have put fees up to £9250.

MaizieD Wed 26-Jul-17 20:03:33

And round and round we go.

Sorry Primrose but unless we have a poll taken on the day of the election, which showed that students only voted Labour because Corbyn said that tuition fees would be abolished and current student loans cancelled, you will not be satisfied.

'flogging', 'dead' and 'horse'is coming to mind.

Eloethan Wed 26-Jul-17 20:02:25

Maizied I'm confused - I didn't mean to misquote but isn't "nick_clegg apologised. Your turn Jeremy" more or less the same as saying Corbyn should apologise?

Smileless2012 Wed 26-Jul-17 20:00:31

17% thought they'd have their student debt cleared and 26% didn't know so it hardly shows "students did not think that Corbyn was promising to cancel their debts". It shows that not all students thought that's what he was promising.

Personally, I think it's a bit worrying that as many as 26% didn't know.

durhamjen Yougov are reputable, however, the survey was done on 25th July (yesterday) There's no guarantee that the results are representative of what was understood at the time he said them.

Same message. Students did not think that Corbyn was promising to cancel their debts.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 26-Jul-17 19:38:32

Nick Clegg reneged when he had a chance to actually do something.

Smileless2012 Wed 26-Jul-17 19:38:23

Oh hang on, did you say it wasn't part of labour's manifesto because I said I didn't think scrapping tuition fees was part of a conservative manifesto?

If so, I didn't say it was in the labour manifesto devongirl. I said it wasn't something the conservatives came out just weeks before a GE to win over discontented young voters; which of course was what JC did.

Smileless2012 Wed 26-Jul-17 19:32:19

You've got me a bitconfused devongirl

GracesGranMK2 Wed 26-Jul-17 19:31:16

He also didn't win yet ...

devongirl Wed 26-Jul-17 18:21:49

My comment was to smileless, btw.

MaizieD Wed 26-Jul-17 18:15:15

This is what Vince Cable said

#Labour has backtracked on #StudentDebt . Yet #LibDems still attacked for breaking pledge in 2010. .@nick_clegg apologised. Your turn Jeremy

MaizieD Wed 26-Jul-17 18:13:29

I think it's pretty rich for Vince Cable to "ask JC to apologise for breaking a pledge"

Vince Cable didn't say that!

I posted Cable's tweet yesterday. He said that the LibDems had apologised for breaking their pledge. Nothing about a Labour pledge..

devongirl Wed 26-Jul-17 18:10:45

Actually of course it wasn't part of the labour manifesto to scrap existing student fees.

Eloethan Wed 26-Jul-17 17:19:42

I think it's pretty rich for Vince Cable to "ask JC to apologise for breaking a pledge". His party actually made a pledge but reneged on it in a very big way.

If Labour gets into power and Corbyn then does nothing to ease the pain of tuition fee debt accrued/interest charged then be can be accused of breaking his word but until then it is Cable and the Lib Dems who have done that and no amount of deflecting attention should allow us to forget it.

Smileless2012 Wed 26-Jul-17 17:08:40

Yes if you like. It's about scrapping student fees, not getting rid of student debt per se and I don't have to say that it's something that the gov. didn't do because we all know that to be the case.

It didn't, as far as I'm aware form a part of the Conservative manifesto and wasn't something that was used to win over discontented young voters just weeks before a GE.

As for my personal opinion, I would want to know how much revenue would be needed to cover that brought in by student fees, and where it was coming from if they're to be scrapped.

Primrose65 Wed 26-Jul-17 17:06:42

devongirl I'm certain there are better examples than a random Osborne letter!

devongirl Wed 26-Jul-17 17:02:38

So what?! Complete u-turn on tory promise, but I guess that doesn't count?

Primrose65 Wed 26-Jul-17 17:00:04

devongirl wtf? That was 14 years ago and a letter by someone who's no longer an MP! Who cares what I think about it.
