If you have a worry/problem or are concerned about an injustice ,voice your concerns and the person you voice them to replies 'I Will Deal With It' what would you expect?

I do find this simplistic logic really annoying.

Michael eats carrots,
Donkeys eat carrots,
Therefore Michael is a donkey.

We can all, surely, see the flaws in this so why not in:

Jeremy believes in socialism
Bad things are done by a man in Venezuela who believes in socialism
Therefore Jeremy will do bad things.

It's really quite pathetic, ridiculous and infantile.

He would if it were a right wing government- Pinochet -Chile!

trisher Tue 08-Aug-17 16:52:36

He condemned all violence in Venezuela. That included the violence perpetrated by the state and by some of the protesters. An outright condemnation of one man wouldn't help things at all.

Jeremy deals with Venezuela.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable said: "Labour have again failed to condemn President Maduro as he slides his country closer to dictatorship."

I have also wondered about the work that the SLC sends out to private companies. Some of the letters and phone calls we received came from another agency and I do wonder if this agency charges per contact they make with the student, regardless of if that contact is necessary. If they do they are scamming a fortune from the tax payer.

So you can find that out, but can't be bothered to read about the students who have been conned by them from today's link.
Says it all, really.

The Hinduja brothers gave massive donations to Labour - £1 million for the Millenium Dome, for example,

Not sure it reflects well on any political party tbh.

Yes, poor Seb with his Cambridge degree and can't find himself a job. My heart's aching too .....

"Boardroom shenanigans bedevil it. It has gone through three bosses in the space of just 20 months, adding to the sense of an organisation in crisis. Its £200,000-a-year chief executive, Steve Lamey, was suspended last month. Legally, it is owned by the Department for Education in England, and its equivalents in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, suggesting that Justine Greening, the education secretary, has lead responsibility. But repayments are governed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, which is headed by Greg Clark, the secretary of state, while a Transformation Programme that began in 2013 was a result of collaboration with BIS, the Cabinet Office and the Treasury. . It has 2,600 staff based in Glasgow, Darlington and Llandudno Junction. Hinduja Global Solutions runs outsourced contact centres for SLC that it claims provide “best in class” service."

The board can't run itself, let alone sort out the student loans.

Jalima1108 Sat 05-Aug-17 20:51:15

As I have mentioned before, it's so hard to get a job when your DP are in the business .....
Brooklyn Beckham too, grumbling about not having a 'normal life for an 18 year old' because he has to "work", signing his 'photography book'.
My heart aches for these children.
It quite takes my concentration away from my own DD struggling to pay her student loan.

Apparently Sebastian Corbyn, aged 25, works as an assistant to John McDonnell, a pal of his Dad's and is paid (at the taxpayers' expense) £48,000 per year - about twice the average wage, so he is doing quite well for a 25 year old..

There is now a rule prohibiting MPs from employing family members, but that does not stop them from employing each other's family members. I wonder how many other well qualified candidates were interviewed for that job?

I misunderstood then trisher. I was replying to
"I imagine none of your children or grandchildren are affected by this."
Mine are. So I commented. The SLC have not been a nightmare for my children. Does that make my opinion invalid?
The 'nightmare' page - which article is that? The 6th one in from 29th July?

Jalima1108 Sat 05-Aug-17 20:21:13

Gracesgran I would cook and eat in peace - otherwise you could get indigestion.
smile

of course, you may not want my advice .....

Jalima1108 Sat 05-Aug-17 20:19:43

* But it's just there as a witty retort to Jalima really, so it's done it's job.*
grin

Just found it!!

trisher Sat 05-Aug-17 20:15:18

We are discussing the nightmare of the SLC read the page that tells you others experiences- click on the nightmare page. Why did you feel the need to post if you don't know what is being discussed.

Primrose65 Sat 05-Aug-17 20:10:47

trisher the link goes through to several hundred articles. I do have an understanding of the SLC, but you're posting your specific issues, not commenting on a particular news item. What are we discussing here? Clarity is better than snarky remarks.

trisher Sat 05-Aug-17 20:04:02

It wasn't sarky, it was true.

Ana Sat 05-Aug-17 19:44:00

Oh dear, was there any need for that sarky remark, trisher?

trisher Sat 05-Aug-17 19:41:55

Perhaps you should go to the link and click on the page about student loan problems Primrose65 before dismissing things as "the SLC seems a bit bureaucratic" Understanding something about the thing being discussed helps you know.

Primrose65 Sat 05-Aug-17 19:35:39

Sorry trisher I'm not sure how you expect me to be aware of the detail of your children's experience with the SLC! If they are being harassed, perhaps they should take legal advice?

trisher Sat 05-Aug-17 19:26:06

It isn't bureaucracy Primrose65 it is harassment. 3 DSs through Uni. 2 paying off loans 1 not earning enough yet. But the 1 that has been harassed has been so for a number of years and there is nothing you can do to stop them. They use other names than the SLC, write very threatening letters, tell lies, apply pressure, make unreasonable demands and do not stop even when they have been proved wrong. Apart from the upset it causes to families and individuals it is a waste of money. Fortunately DS and me are strong and resilient, someone less so might find the whole thing very worrying.

Primrose65 Sat 05-Aug-17 19:11:25

Not all students have problems though. Some graduate and seem to walk straight into a well-paid job. Seb never looks stressed to me.
I agree the SLC seems to be a bit bureaucratic but we have not had specific issues with them (yet - 3 children through uni, 2 paid off their loans)

Primrose65 Sat 05-Aug-17 19:00:55

40 pages of articles about student finance. Too right I didn't read them all!
