Very much needed.

First happy thing to report.

Unison have won their case making it illegal to charge employees for employment litigation. Introduced by the Tories in 2013.

The judges quite rightly said it was wrong to make it difficult/impossible for anyone to resort to law.

Those who paid will be reimbursed.

Boris's latest u-turn on Brexit.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/aug/25/boris-johnson-concedes-uk-will-have-to-pay-for-brexit

More mayhem in the government.

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 16:54:22

"Former civil servants also revealed that it was an open secret in Whitehall that the 100,000 figure had no evidence base but the Home Office refused to drop it."

This is interesting, too. Knives really out.

whitewave Sat 26-Aug-17 16:34:24

The conference will be interesting, if she survives that long, although I'm not sure any of them are keen to pick up that poison chalice

whitewave Sat 26-Aug-17 16:13:09

George Osborne is calling May a liar - ouch!!

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 16:12:43

Perhaps May just wants to get out of the mess she's in over Brexit.
She's not going to resign as that would make her look soft, but she is trying her hardest to get voted out.

whitewave Sat 26-Aug-17 16:07:37

Apparently May knew the truth but buried it before the referendum.

More lies.

whitewave Sat 26-Aug-17 15:41:45

Hmm " knowingly deceived" they are strong words.

Soubry has also tweeted her disgust.

Boris refused to support her in the radio yesterday morning.

We are in for interesting times in the Tory party this autumn and beyond.

No authority from the top means that the children in the playground can run riot and they are.

Six articles from the UN convention on rights for those with disabilities. Six times the government is censured for the way it treats the disabled. Not a good record.

Now this.

www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2017/08/25/theresa-may-told-to-apologise-to-parliament-over-overseas-students-yvette-cooper-osborne_n_17827746.html?utm_hp_ref=uk-politics&ir=UK+Politics

Do you really think Mayhem will apologise to parliament for her figures possibly misleading many of the population into voting brexit? I wouldn't like to bet on it.
I hope it does go to a vote of no confidence in her leadership.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 26-Aug-17 09:15:52

I am so sad that it takes the UN to show this up for what it is. So many in this country simply do not care until they are affected.

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 08:54:31

www.disabilitynewsservice.com/uk-faces-un-examination-government-cuts-caused-human-catastrophe/

Pleased somebody's noticed. There are lots of other articles on that link, including ones that show the DWP has targets and that some assessors lie when they make their reports.
The whole area of disability benefits needs to change.

240,000 38 degrees members have managed to get the NHS reforms in the Guardian.

www.theguardian.com/society/2017/aug/25/nhs-accused-of-keeping-secret-its-plans-to-cut-services

Whoever you are on here, I hope you are as pleased as I am. Now we just want the rest of the population to take notice and start asking questions.

durhamjen Fri 25-Aug-17 21:31:19

Not yet, according to Private Eye.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 25-Aug-17 20:12:41

ignore the extra 's'

GracesGranMK2 Fri 25-Aug-17 20:12:27

Does that make the part of Wales where this took place a modern Rotten Boroughs grin

GracesGranMK2 Fri 25-Aug-17 20:10:41

It seems to have moved up the news during the day so even the press are taking it seriously. I did see the programme (Channel 4?) about this and they certainly seemed to have a case to answer.

Loosing our democracy - they will be buying votes nexthmm

durhamjen Fri 25-Aug-17 18:36:31

Yes, I read that as well, whitewave. Of course, they are saying, not me gov. In the Guardian, too.

The Independent is reporting that the Tory Party is being significantly investigated by the police, for allegedly criminal activity.

" The HSJ has just revealed that the East Midlands, Nottinghamshire and Nottingham STP has recently contracted Capita to help with the setting up of its Accountable Care System. Remember 'accountable' means for the money, not people's treatment. Capita has in turn subcontracted part of the contract worth £2.7m to a company called Centene, which is part of a major insurance company Centene Corporation which sets up care plans for Medicare and Medicaid in the US. It has worked with the Spanish Healthcare provider Ribera Salud on its Alzirea ACS in Valencia, according to the HSJ.

Ribera Salud is also working with Northumberland Tyne and Weir STP although presumably without the middlemen Capita and Centene. What this means in the long term is that as a country, we'll be paying more for less, than when we had a National Health Service.

In the public spat between Jeremy Hunt and famous physicist Stephen Hawking, the intellectual rigour and the moral high ground is with Stephen Hawking. But it needs all of us to speak out. We need to stand together and stand up for those less fortunate than ourselves. Stephen Hawking said that on a trip to the US he heard someone say a disabled person's life has no value! This can not be true. He is part of the evidence. "

Adam Smith Institute thinks the Tories should cut airport tax so that the young will vote for the Tories again. How shallow do they think young people are?

www.politicshome.com/news/uk/economy/news/88441/tories-should-cut-price-flights-ibiza-win-back-young-voters-says

They don't actually suggest paying them a proper living wage, but never mind.

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 21:56:07

James McGrory, the executive director of pro-EU group Open Britain, said: “The Prime Minister has spent years, in Downing Street and in the Home Office, railing against foreign students overstaying their visas, which was used this to justify crackdowns on foreign students, despite their importance to our economy.

“But now it emerges that the number of over stayers is just a fraction of the numbers the Government previously thought. They have been using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

“The Government’s focus now should be to make Britain as welcoming as possible to foreign students. Ministers should start by taking them out of the immigration figures entirely.”

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 21:54:03

www.politicshome.com/news/uk/home-affairs/immigration/news/88450/theresa-may-attacked-ons-finds-no-evidence-problem

Completely wrong, petra. Only 5000 overstay their visas.
Migrationwatch said it could be as high as 100,000.
May said too many stayed. It's only 2.6%, therefore completely wrong.
