I thought I would start this thread to enable those who are enthusiastic Brexiters, to educate us Europhiles and show that our worries are silly and uniformed.

We hear so little from you, except to criticise our worries.

We have so many threads about the negative effects why not have one which shows the positive effects that leaving the EU will come about?

You think it's bad now, from the 24june 2016 and the proceeding weeks the leave voters were almost reduced to Neanderthals, but I/we can live with it grin
The angst, hand wringing, tears, etc is almost amusing at times.

I wonder how Davis is doing with the European citizens living in the U.K.? It will be interesting to see how he tries to spin it.

Brussels suggested that they keep all their existing rights, this of course includes British ex-pats. The freedom to move to another EU country for temporary work is part of this.
Davis isn't happy with much of this being a member of "The Little Englanders"
So I shall watch the spin with interest.

"former" or not his words should ring clear and loud to those who refuse to stop and listen to sense.

He has been in a position to understand exactly what is happening to the UK and the disaster that is about to occur.

I'm new to Gransnet so this is my first post. I expected there would be a discussion about why people voted to leave the EU and what they hoped for. Instead it's, turned into the usual justification of the remainers that people voted 'leave' because they were too ignorant and illiterate to make an educated decision.

I must admit I'm disappointed in Gransnet

Quite right, POGS. Apologies for former posts. He clearly saw the light...

He was Davis' chief of staff after the George Osborne job.

He's currently a partner at Bel Pottinger (which has come in for some criticism over its activities in, I think, South Africa) and is about to write for The Guardian.

As he spent a year in the DEXEU I think he's pretty well placed to have an informed view of Brexit.

POGS Wed 09-Aug-17 21:34:05

Oh dear I posted at the same time as you Maizie d but I assure you I do not know this because of your belief .

" In which case POGS I apologise and also congratulate you on writing like a Daily Mail reporter." hmm

durhamjen Wed 09-Aug-17 21:31:50

Ex-political editor. He then worked for Osborne, then Davis.
Now in PR.
He also says Johnson should be jailed for the lies he told, and that there should be another party to oppose Brexit.
Sounds like he's grown up at last.

POGS Wed 09-Aug-17 21:29:14

Accept he is NOT the Political Editor of the Daily Mail!

Chapman left the Daily Mail to go 'spin' for George Osborne at The Treasury and now works for the globally renowned PR firm Bell Pottinger if I am not mistaken, easy to look up but I can't be bothered.

MaizieD Wed 09-Aug-17 21:28:50

No, the DM is not fine; its political editor is.

He was saying this on twitter this morning. Did he say it in the DM too ww?

Ana Wed 09-Aug-17 21:05:39

So the DM is fine if its political editor agrees with your view then, whitewave?

whitewave Wed 09-Aug-17 20:35:33

James Chapman - Daily Mail political editor and was chief of staff for Davis, has announced that Brexit is an absolute disaster, and that all right minded MPs should have the guts to stand up and say so.

whitewave Wed 09-Aug-17 20:05:52

Yes I have read that Farage is under investigation. Those who happily take money from the tax payer without doing a thing or minimal effort deserve to be investigated for possible fraud. He has taken the piss for year after year. We already know that he has used or side tracked money for purposes other than its correct use.

An extremely unpleasant little man.

durhamjen Wed 09-Aug-17 19:59:34

Sorry, £80,000.

durhamjen Wed 09-Aug-17 19:59:06

"However, the OLAF investigation was looking into allegations that Farage was claiming for salary and costs of an employee meant to be working as an MEP’s assistant in order to fund his UKIP activities, so the fact that he has been told to repay the money suggests that this is what OLAF concluded took place.

What’s more, the SKWAWKBOX understands from sources close to UKIP that the £80,000 is only the initial amount the former UKIP leader has been told to repay, so if Mr Farage felt punished by the repayment demand for £80,000, he will be smarting indeed when other amounts become due."

He has already been asked to repay 80,000 euros.

skwawkbox.org/2017/08/09/seems-eu-investigation-into-farage-still-ongoing-and/

Just for you petra.
I know the link was two years old.
Farage IS being investigated.

Welshwife Wed 09-Aug-17 19:38:05

I think there is still an investigation going on into his party and payment taken from the EU.

petra Wed 09-Aug-17 19:10:09

durhamjen
Your link @18.00 has no mention of Nigel Farage. As that article is 2yrsold I think we would have heard that NF is under investigation, wishful thinking on your part, dream on.

Scottish ministers getting their act together.

durhamjen Wed 09-Aug-17 18:00:37

Our country post brexit might see Farage in jail.

Skwawkbox asked OLAF, the EU fraud squad, about how the investigation into Farage was doing.
They said they could not discuss ongoing investigations, but sent a link to this.

Just saying....

LabourforEurope is a site to sign up to register your support for Labour and EU.

Tegan2 Wed 09-Aug-17 16:14:13

I've just filled in a Labour Party questionnaire giving my views on brexit. I don't think the party understand that a lot of the votes for Corbyn [mine and my daughters definitely] were a tactical vote against this government and an attempt to stop a hard brexit , not a support vote for what seems to be the Labour Party stance on brexit.

nigglynellie Wed 09-Aug-17 16:08:11

whitewave, why have the unions only just understood the benefits of EU legislation when it's been in place for years?!

durhamjen Wed 09-Aug-17 15:38:41

I've noticed that on lots of websites, GracesGran.
I wondered what they were all up to.

This is interesting as far as workers for these agencies are concerned. Wouldn't like to have to make their decisions.

whitewave Wed 09-Aug-17 10:28:29

Labour leadership is beginning to recognise the pressure for at the very minimum a soft Brexit. The unions are changing their minds and understand the support that workers get from the EU legislation.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 09-Aug-17 08:21:28

Interesting to see the Telegraph using the word 'bloc' when referring to the EU. A bit of subliminal positioning perhaps.
