I thought I would start this thread to enable those who are enthusiastic Brexiters, to educate us Europhiles and show that our worries are silly and uniformed.

We hear so little from you, except to criticise our worries.

We have so many threads about the negative effects why not have one which shows the positive effects that leaving the EU will come about?

Anya Wed 02-Aug-17 23:14:31

Sorry WW that should read 'without recourse to..'

Anya Wed 02-Aug-17 23:13:53

Whitewave I don't accuse you of belittling leavers. I've always found you argue your point with recourse to rudeness or personal comments.

As one who didn't come down on either side in the end, I restate my view that the majority of abuse is by remainers i.e. the side that lost the vote. Not all, I agree but the majority. I saying this as one who is neutral in this debate. I suppose it's possible that had the vote gone to Remain, then we might have seen the same behaviour from the other side. But it didn't and we don't.

In fact there was a comment shortly after my last post which proved my point which said that leavers were led astray - implying most were too stupid to weigh the evidence. That's an example of what I mean.

Another good result for Brexit?

Is this a good result for Brexit?

With regard to Dyson, I found this blog, rather old (2016) but querying Dyson's figures and the extent to which individual EU countries would 'care'.

medium.com/im-trying-to-fact-check-brexit/fact-check-james-dysons-claims-about-brexit-bb6f3785ccfe

Like dj, the writer has no idea where Dyson's figures come from even though he'd hunted for their source. I'd be very suspicious of figures that can't be verified.

I note that the writer also makes the point about individual EU countries' 'shares' of exports to UK.

Jalima1108 Wed 02-Aug-17 20:52:31

Is it finished? There was a nightly update on the BBC news about it a couple of weeks ago.

durhamjen Wed 02-Aug-17 20:50:43

Did you see the train that came from China? All the way to Amsterdam, I think. Carrying lots of goods to sell.
Because we do doesn't mean we should, not if we are concerned for the environment. Perhaps we will realise that we need to get manufacturing again.

Primrose65 Wed 02-Aug-17 20:46:41

Nope, I've used the ONS figures.
We exported £123,231 million in services in 2015. (ONS figures)
Fullfact links through to the ONS.
You do know how to convert to billions?

Jalima1108 Wed 02-Aug-17 20:46:33

Yes, I know, I realise I left that bit out after I posted djen. China is quite a distance away too.
They are building a new Silk Road.

durhamjen Wed 02-Aug-17 20:42:11

Who's name calling?

Have you got that wrong? Do you mean billions?

fullfact.org/europe/uk-eu-trade/

Primrose65 Wed 02-Aug-17 20:41:36

China makes high-quality goods. If you're using a PC or mobile phone, it was probably made in China. Low energy light bulbs too.

Welshwife Wed 02-Aug-17 20:39:39

The facts have been out there and it is very high - they will be employing EU citizens already living in the EU not only British ones. It will means billions lost to the Treasury.

durhamjen Wed 02-Aug-17 20:38:23

Jalima, I was talking about the effect on the environment.

Primrose65 Wed 02-Aug-17 20:37:01

We export more in services, but won't after Brexit as they will all have moved to the EU.

But moving a few hundred people of the city is nothing. We exported £123,231 million in services in 2015. (ONS figures) I'm sure even a few hundred bankers can't generate that.

You should check your facts before you start name calling.

Welshwife Wed 02-Aug-17 20:36:51

Most of the goods are alesser quality than Eiropean or British made ones - DFS import their sofas and they have softwood frames - good quality ones are hardwood and last year's - are worth recovering.

Jalima1108 Wed 02-Aug-17 20:30:10

Trading with the EU must have a lesser effect than trading with the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
hmm we import a lot of goods from China

durhamjen Wed 02-Aug-17 20:30:00

This could be good after Brexit.

varian Wed 02-Aug-17 20:09:39

It is not the absolute value of imports and exports between the UK and the rext of the EU which ultimately matters. It is the percentage. We export 40% of our total exports to the othef EU countries. What percentage of their exports are bought by us? About 5%.

That's why they have got us over a barrell. We are going to have to negotiate from a position of extreme weakness.

Did the Leave campaign know this and lie to the voters or were they to stupid to do the sums?

21 Moorfields, sorry for the typo!

Primrose65 Wed 02-Aug-17 19:48:16

We export more in services, but won't after Brexit as they will all have moved to the EU.
Well, banking is staying. Deutsche just leased 1/2 million sq ft at 21 Minories.
What services are moving to the EU?

durhamjen Wed 02-Aug-17 19:41:37

By the way, Dyson moved his factory to Malaysia because we didn't join the Eurozone.

durhamjen Wed 02-Aug-17 19:34:16

But he's only talking about manufactured goods. We export more in services, but won't after Brexit as they will all have moved to the EU.

You really think that someone who manufactures his goods in Malaysia or wherever cares about the UK as a whole?

That's being pathetic, petra.
Your precious Tory government uses Fullfact. Perhaps you think they can't work their way out of a paper bag either.
Haven't heard that phrase since I was in primary school.
