NT they've really gone and done it now!

I thought of joining the NT but who's to say what madness they'll do next? Perhaps we'll all be having to wear lanyards and only eat raw veg in their cafes. What a weird bunch at the top - a bit out of touch if you ask me [which noone has!]

No rosesarered I'm new to posting on here - I came on for a bit before joining but am finding posting a bit different - you have to think harder about what people mean or why they've said it if you are going to post rather than if you're just reading and maybe composing a reply in your head. I referred to the Guardian because someone else had posted the link and the article summed up my views on this issue. I don't think any paper or TV channel or radio station is perfect although some are ( much) better than others but I do still miss the Independent. What I still find tricky on here is sometimes knowing when something is meant to be amusing - I'm trying to remember to use if I'm ( trying ) to be funny. Also it's disconcerting if you ask a question and don't get an answer. The other thing is it being obvious ( I think) that there's some history and back story and have no idea what it is

I know lots of people on here don't read the Guardian.
That's why I put up links to it, in case they want to be informed.
Independent, too, quite often.

I agree there, sometimes it's disconcerting to be ignored but I suppose the question may not seem important enough to others - or perhaps other posters may not know the answer.

The two questions I asked that I particularly wanted answers to was one to a poster who seemed to be saying that there was a link between being left or right and ones views on homosexuality ( linked to NT issue of course) and the other question was about why religious beliefs should be treated differently in terms of being 'mocked' compared with deeply held political beliefs ( or I suppose any other deeply held belief). So I thought the posters who posted those views should have been able to answer them - I'm not saying should have but that I was disconcerted they didn't and there were in a position to be able to I would have thought

As newcomer you may not be aware that we have to be careful about 'Threads about threads' too. I'm not sure if that means starting threads about threads or referring to other threads iyswim.

Oh sorry - I was just clarifying that my questions could have been answered and weren't. I wasn't wanting to debate the issue . I'll just accept that - it'll probably happen again.

Flapjack ingredients galore on this thread. It's in news and politics. Hard to believe, I know.

maryeliza one of the problems of asking questions on busy threads is that it gets buried. If, for example, I come here and find there are 30 posts I haven't read do I reply to a question straight away and then find someone else has answered it or do I wait until I have read all the posts and then I have forgotten the question

According to everyone who has eaten it, my nutty seedy flapjack* is the best in the world. Recipe in the Gransnet food section under a longer version of my username.

*Everyone calls it flapjack too, even Americans to whom a flapjack is some kind of pancake.

I agree with what M0nica says about NT's sanctimonious posturing. We haven't renewed our membership for years because of that and other instances of groupthink its executive have engaged in.

I have a pile of them facing me in the kitchen and yes, I do have some recipes but fancy a change!!

Perhaps I should donate them to the NT and they can do something innovative with them

Yes Tiz I understand that - clearly it's up to posters if they want to answer a specific question addressed specifically to a point they made - not a general question that anyone could answer. Anyway, it hardly matters I was just making a point as a newcomer - was that OK ? ( general question anyone can answer if they want)
