Does anyone else think Trump has a point?

I am really worried about the idea of re-writing history to suit either left or right and am thinking Trump may have a point.

I would not want Nazis or the KKK marching in my town (I would want the organisations banned, if it were in my country) but surely we have to be even handed if people are breaking the law.

This seems to be the only trump thread at the moment....
slightly off the point, but have a look at this:

...seems to me he is looking fairly raddled here, about 30 years older than his tweet picture, and his comb-over isn't working!

Today if Dorothy met men with no brains, no heart and no courage, she wouldn't be in Oz.

She'd be in Politics

Brilliant, AlieOxon.
He was busy, wasn't he? Mind most of it was mopping up all the mistakes he'd made.
Not much intellectual support went into backing trump, whitewave. Not sure who I feel sorrier for, the US or the rest of us. We all have to put up with him.

whitewave Mon 28-Aug-17 11:34:36

I think that just like Brexit, people have invested emotional support in Trump as well as intellectual, and as a result find it much harder to change position.

This is a recap on what trump did on his holiday....

OMG

Gorka has gone - yippee!!!!

White House is beginning to look quite different.

whitewave Sun 27-Aug-17 09:13:47

So now the white supremicists and neo Nazis must feel more secure in their racist dealings knowing that their president will grant them a pardon if they are convicted for their fouls deeds.

And another one. This is funny, although possibly not to trump.

Trump's lost another of his White House staff. They can't decide if he was sacked or resigned.

No, I am the same Jalima1108 - I don't have two GN personae!!

I didn't suggest that. I wanted to be aware if there was another one and she might be a very different sort of person.

"Trump is forcing an internet provider to turn over the personal details of 1.3 million people who visited an anti-Trump website! From anywhere in the world!

But we have 2 days to stop him.

This could impact all of us -- over half of the world's websites are hosted in the US. And Trump can do whatever he wants with the data, like give it to dictator friends to help them crack down on their own citizens.

Lawyers are taking him to court, but they'll focus on the impact on Americans. The judge can also consider the rights of non-US citizens and if we bring a court filing backed by a million people around the world, arguing that our rights are at risk too, it could have a huge impact on the case!

Add your name urgently -- the hearing is on Thursday and Avaaz staff is getting ready to file our brief to the court in front of the media:

Click to stop Trump's Internet takeover

This kind of power would mean that Trump could demand the IP addresses and behaviour of every visitor to Avaaz's website too. Or Wikipedia or Youtube. Under US law, American citizens would have protections for what he can do with their information, but the rest of us would have nothing. It would transform our free internet into a big brother state with Trump at the helm.

We can't let it happen.

Thankfully, US law could stop him if the judge feels like the threat to privacy outweighs Trump's "security" concerns. And the fact that his first victims are visitors to a website directly protesting his power is a mark in our favour. But the argument is even stronger if we can show the danger this power holds for foreign website visitors who have no protection under US law and could be jailed or worse simply for signing a petition!

Let's add our voices now, and make sure the judge knows that their decision will affect the whole world!

Click to stop Trump's Internet takeover

The internet is more than just another issue, it's what empowers our movement to connect as human beings and win strategic fights that lift all of us up. This is our chance to make sure it doesn't get overrun by Trump and his cronies! "

Excellent news. Trump has had to back down on this.

It may be one country and enshrined in law but one person's life in the USA may be the polar opposite to another person's - even in the same town or city.
And their perception of history may be different but what happened cannot be changed but can be learned from.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 24-Aug-17 20:26:55

I am glad you feel there is something you can agree with in my OP Jalima1108 (do we have two Jalima's now?). It was very much a question rather than an opinion I was offering.

As for 'someone's right being someone else's wrong' I think perhaps that may be true between cultures but not in one country where the culture is enshrined in the law.

Jalima1108 Thu 24-Aug-17 20:08:00

ps Gracesgran your OP is correct in a way; I think that we cannot re-write history, pulling down statues etc is a moot point, but we do have to learn from history, try not to make the same mistakes and the statues etc could be a symbol of what people thought in the past and remind us how we think differently now (we hope).

Jalima1108 Thu 24-Aug-17 20:05:17

I think this is what made my ask the question in my OP. It was a feeling of - surely he must know right from wrong, are we missing something.
Yes, Gracesgran but someone's right could be someone else's wrong.

I still do not believe he should not be invited to the UK, because it is the POTUS we are inviting, irrelevant of who (whom?) holds the office at any one time.

May I go to Alaska now? smile

Ah, yes you would think that illtellhim would be the one and only but rumour has it otherwise - apparently there are three - at least that is what she/he would have us believe.

Not at all!

GracesGranMK2 Thu 24-Aug-17 13:14:55

Do we care?
