Should she have resigned? Was she telling the truth? Did she jump or was she pushed? Is this an example of political correctness gone mad?

Anniebach Sun 20-Aug-17 22:42:57

Stephen was murdered in 1993, the guilty got off three times, the mail run that front page and within months Straw ordered an enquiry. There was no political correctness in the nineties, in 1995 we had the Brixton riots where a white police officer was murdered, so I think the Mail showed courage and justice by running that page , I doubt there would have been a guilty verdict if the .mail hadn't spoken out and this should not be forgotten . And I am not and have never been a mail reader .

Chewbacca
How bad is it when we have pics of Worzel Gummage with The Sun and not the socialist bible grin

Chewbacca Sun 20-Aug-17 22:30:34

Odd isn't it that the fiercely left wing Grundia is the jonny-come-lately to breaking news, whether it's political or social. Maybe that's why it's readership is steadily falling.

Not in the same league, although some did go to prison for a few weeks, but it still counts, doesn't it.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Aug-17 22:00:51

Not sure if this is comparable petra but that good old right wing newspaper, The Telegraph, was the only paper that was willing to expose the MPs expenses scandal in 2014. Other papers (including the Gruniard) picked up the story later, but it was the Telegraph who took the risk with breaking the news.

Can any Guardian reader give us an example that comes anywhere near as important as the DM campaign for Stephen Lawrence.

Anniebach Sun 20-Aug-17 21:26:41

Petra I would never forget their front page naming the murderers , big risk

annie
Well said. Many left leaning people can't bring themselves to admit, and thank the DM for getting the prosecutions that lead to that pond life ( because that's what they are) being locked up.
Where was the Guardian then?

Primrose65 Sun 20-Aug-17 20:41:06

I tried posting an article from a paper that wasn't the Grauniad once. Won't try that again. grin

Anniebach Sun 20-Aug-17 20:29:02

I do not read the Daily Mail but will never forget it was the mail who took in the murderers of Stephen Lawrence whilst the rest of the press were silent

Anniebach Sun 20-Aug-17 20:24:48

Hang on , I love the Beano, it's my one weakness, well one of them .

Ana Sun 20-Aug-17 20:23:41

Yes, a couple of regular political thread posters do fit into that category, the ones who think they don't need to give any reference.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Aug-17 20:21:16

Simple difference of opinion then GGMK2.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 20-Aug-17 20:18:53

Nope, Chewbacca, I haven't seen that either. There is more of a division between those who bother to reference their comments and those who are arrogant to think they are reference enough than there is between single paper references.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Aug-17 20:14:26

Not only the Gruanian, but predominantly.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 20-Aug-17 20:13:23

I have never seen a single person on here only post from the Guardian.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Aug-17 20:10:19

Me neither. But if I did, it certainly wouldn't be The Sun!

Ana Sun 20-Aug-17 20:08:12

Wonder why so many on the political threads post links to Guardian articles? They must have an extremely narrow view of the world...

Jalima1108 Sun 20-Aug-17 20:04:10

I don't read a paper so I must have a very narrow view indeed grin

GracesGranMK2 Sun 20-Aug-17 20:02:14

You only have to watch 'The Papers' in the late night news or in the morning to understand where the red-tops stand in the scheme of thing; you really don't have to read them. You can also access many single articles on-line. I think the inverted snobbery about these papers is far, far worse than anything coming from those who choose, generally, not to read them.

If you are still living in the days of only getting news when you pick up a paper no wonder you have such a narrow view.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Aug-17 20:00:32

grin indeed Jalima. All those people covertly buying right wing rags, for nefarious reasons! Who'd have thunk it!

Jalima1108 Sun 20-Aug-17 19:58:31

Gosh!!

What awful people populate the UK shock

I never realised.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Aug-17 19:56:05

Quick online search Baggs:

"The NRS has Daily Mail/Mail Online in first place with 29m readers a month followed by The Sun in second place on 26.2m, the Mirror on 25.8m and The Guardian on 22.7m. on 25.8m and The Guardian on 22.7m."

Baggs Sun 20-Aug-17 19:50:10

I'm sure I've read more than once that The Sun is the most popular newspaper in Britain.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Aug-17 19:49:59

Nasty durham? No, I don't think so. The Sun is an odious rag that perpetuates sexism and racism and has, in the main, a readership of people who don't rate women any higher than their sexuality and who detest all "forriners". It amuses me no end that JC is photographed clutching a copy of it to his chest. I would be sceptical that he only bought a copy for "research purposes" because their are several alternatives to that (such as online reading or having a copy delivered perhaps?) I prefer to think that this is his usual reading matter; simply because it amuses me.
