Should she have resigned? Was she telling the truth? Did she jump or was she pushed? Is this an example of political correctness gone mad?

trisher Sat 19-Aug-17 10:12:42

She resigned -if so it was an honourable thing to do and she fully accepted responsibility for not overseeing things -it's what always happened when ministers screwed up. If it is being brought back into the Labour Party then that is great. Too many people just ride out their mistakes thinking that today's paper wraps tomorrows fish and chips so it doesn't matter (TM for example)
It is interesting that Emily Thornberry was berated by so many people for a tweet about white vans and the flag of St George, possibly the same people who are now defending Sarah Champion for a newspaper article in a paper known for its racist attitudes.

Corbyn left the second Mrs Corbyn because she wouldn't agree to his choice of school for their son .

nigglynellie Sat 19-Aug-17 10:18:00

Having to resign your position over what would appear to be a slip of the tongue by one word for which, as I understand, she was more than prepared to apologise does seem on the face of it, excessive, but there we go votes are everything and must not be jeopardized under any circumstances!

Chewbacca Sat 19-Aug-17 10:20:04

If we're talking about prejudice, may I refer you to the thread "Interview with the Mogg". There are some pretty prejudiced posts on their, including calling into question whether the number of children he has is immoral or not. It does sometimes seem that criticism of any Conservative party MP is fair game, whilst criticism of Labour party MPS is "prejudice ".
Just an observation.

Anniebach Sat 19-Aug-17 10:22:51

True Chewbacca, and for one poster criticism of Corbyn is hatred .

nigglynellie Sat 19-Aug-17 10:26:54

Emily Thornberry's attitude to white van man was totally different, as she actually went out of her way to be as sneering, rude and dismissive as she possibly could be towards somebody going about their lawful business. She exposed her snobbish patronising attitude while purporting to have socialist values! A truly awful ambitious vain woman who isn't even remotely comparable to Sarah Champion.

trisher Sat 19-Aug-17 10:27:03

Anniebach if you were present at all the meetings between Jeremy Corbyn and his ex-wives I will totally believe you. However I doubt the you were and I can tell you that the reasons often publicised after a marriage breakdown are seldom the real or only reason. So why not just stick to discussing the subject for a change. Oh sorry you might have to admit that there is honour in the present Labour Party mightn't you?

Anniebach Sat 19-Aug-17 10:29:23

There most definitely is honour in the Labour Party, there are honourable MP's in the Labour Party, the leader sadly isn't one of them.

Jalima1108 Sat 19-Aug-17 10:31:59

There most definitely is honour in the Labour Party

Sarah Champion for a start.

Not just some Pakistani muslims.
We have a problem with establishment cover-ups.

dbDB77 Sat 19-Aug-17 10:41:06

We know what we know not just from reading carefully worded press releases but from our experience, knowledge and understanding of how the world works. Sarah Champion's "resignation" reminds me of those Ministers who resigned "to spend more time with my family" - i.e. jump before you're pushed.
As Jalima has said - it is so disheartening to see yet another woman, who is working to help these young girls, being cast aside.

trisher Sat 19-Aug-17 10:44:12

It's irrelevant Annie
So Emily Thornberry is sneering, rude and dismissive about white van men (arguably white British men)
but Sarah Champion just misses out the word 'some'. and that's OK
I suspect some Pakistani people might disagree with your judgement niggly

trisher Sat 19-Aug-17 10:47:30

If we are talking about what will help these young girls let's realise that the drastic cuts this government has made to council funding has caused far more damage to them and that there is probably no one working in that field now, making any sort of a record or offering any help.

MaizieD Sat 19-Aug-17 10:47:46

Good heavens, nigglyellie. 10:26:54 I'm impressed that you managed to read so much into four words and a photo.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 19-Aug-17 10:52:39

You do not 'know what you know' dbDB77, you are assuming you know and expecting us, who do not know you from Adam to believe you have some special insight and accept what you say.

An opinion not based on fact is a prejudice. From what you say you have no special access to the facts of this case; you are basing your opinions on what you see as your own wisdom. Others may not hold just your age and experience of life in such high esteem as you do.

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 10:52:45

Strange how much can be read into a picture and the words "image from Rochester".
Just as much prejudice as the original tweet was meant to be.
However, nothing to do with Sarah Champion suggesting that we have a problem with Pakistani men, and resigning when she realised how her comments could be construed.

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 10:53:11

Snap, Maizie.

dbDB77 Sat 19-Aug-17 11:05:26

No need to get personal GGMK2 - I actually said "We know..."

GracesGranMK2 Sat 19-Aug-17 11:14:19

I wasn't being personal other than it was you I replied to because it was you who commented. You might well feel just the same about me if I make unfounded comments. There is no logic in someone parading their prejudices and is then being oversensitive to the replies.

Anniebach Sat 19-Aug-17 11:26:18

What is irrelevant Trisha?

nigglynellie Sat 19-Aug-17 11:28:01

Emily Thornberry oozes arrogance and hypocrisy from her clear distain of ordinary people to the private school she sends her children.

kittylester Sat 19-Aug-17 12:26:18

Quite nigglynellie!

petra Sat 19-Aug-17 13:01:31

I think there are 'some' posters on here who would be more at home, politically, in Islington, rather than their home towns/ cities.
