Should she have resigned? Was she telling the truth? Did she jump or was she pushed? Is this an example of political correctness gone mad?

nigglynellie Sat 19-Aug-17 17:41:01

Don't we all ab? difference is E.T. can afford it and shamelessly does so while shrugging at the rest of us!
Yes petra, I was pondering on the Naz Shar episode!! but as you say, we all know where J.C. stands on anti sematism, so there's the answer!!!!!

petra Sat 19-Aug-17 17:28:15

When the MP for Bradford, Naz Shar made anti Semitic remarks earlier this year she was given a slap on the wrist and then welcomed back into the fold. But that was ok, it was anti Semitic and we all know where Corbyn stands on this issue.

True niggly, and thornberry chose her children's school because she wanted the best for her children

Anniebach Sat 19-Aug-17 17:11:21

Most interesting nightowl, he wanted to send his son to a school even thought the mother knew her child would be unhappy if he was forced to go there.

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 16:29:45

That's an excellent article, nightowl, written when he wasn't expected to get where he is now.

nigglynellie Sat 19-Aug-17 14:57:56

Diane Abbott's son apparently chose to go to the Grammar School, so how could she refuse?!!!confused

nightowl Sat 19-Aug-17 13:56:29

For anyone with an interest in Jeremy Corbyn's second marriage and subsequent divorce, this is quite an interesting article from the time, long before he became party leader. It doesn't have anything to do with Sarah Champion but as the subject seems to have taken over this thread I thought it might be of some relevance.

Yet another thread that has descended into the repetition of opinions as facts and assertions that 'we know' things we cannot possibly know. It's a shame we can't have some proper debate with well argued points from different perspectives.

petra Sat 19-Aug-17 13:28:53

At least Dianne Abbott gave the 'excuse' that she didn't want her son to join a gang wink

Anniebach Sat 19-Aug-17 13:04:40

The problem I have with Thornberry and her views on schooling - she gave a speech against grammar schools, same week was asked in a tv interview about her choice of schooling for her children, she said " I want the best schooling for my children and for all children"

So she knows better than the parents who want their children to be educated in grammer schools.

petra Sat 19-Aug-17 13:01:31

I think there are 'some' posters on here who would be more at home, politically, in Islington, rather than their home towns/ cities.

kittylester Sat 19-Aug-17 12:26:18

Quite nigglynellie!

nigglynellie Sat 19-Aug-17 11:28:01

Emily Thornberry oozes arrogance and hypocrisy from her clear distain of ordinary people to the private school she sends her children.

Anniebach Sat 19-Aug-17 11:26:18

What is irrelevant Trisha?

GracesGranMK2 Sat 19-Aug-17 11:14:19

I wasn't being personal other than it was you I replied to because it was you who commented. You might well feel just the same about me if I make unfounded comments. There is no logic in someone parading their prejudices and is then being oversensitive to the replies.

dbDB77 Sat 19-Aug-17 11:05:26

No need to get personal GGMK2 - I actually said "We know..."

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 10:53:11

Snap, Maizie.

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 10:52:45

Strange how much can be read into a picture and the words "image from Rochester".
Just as much prejudice as the original tweet was meant to be.
However, nothing to do with Sarah Champion suggesting that we have a problem with Pakistani men, and resigning when she realised how her comments could be construed.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 19-Aug-17 10:52:39

You do not 'know what you know' dbDB77, you are assuming you know and expecting us, who do not know you from Adam to believe you have some special insight and accept what you say.

An opinion not based on fact is a prejudice. From what you say you have no special access to the facts of this case; you are basing your opinions on what you see as your own wisdom. Others may not hold just your age and experience of life in such high esteem as you do.

MaizieD Sat 19-Aug-17 10:47:46

Good heavens, nigglyellie. 10:26:54 I'm impressed that you managed to read so much into four words and a photo.

trisher Sat 19-Aug-17 10:47:30

If we are talking about what will help these young girls let's realise that the drastic cuts this government has made to council funding has caused far more damage to them and that there is probably no one working in that field now, making any sort of a record or offering any help.

trisher Sat 19-Aug-17 10:44:12

It's irrelevant Annie
So Emily Thornberry is sneering, rude and dismissive about white van men (arguably white British men)
but Sarah Champion just misses out the word 'some'. and that's OK
I suspect some Pakistani people might disagree with your judgement niggly

dbDB77 Sat 19-Aug-17 10:41:06

We know what we know not just from reading carefully worded press releases but from our experience, knowledge and understanding of how the world works. Sarah Champion's "resignation" reminds me of those Ministers who resigned "to spend more time with my family" - i.e. jump before you're pushed.
As Jalima has said - it is so disheartening to see yet another woman, who is working to help these young girls, being cast aside.

Not just some Pakistani muslims.
We have a problem with establishment cover-ups.
