In the news this morning - one in three Jews are considering leaving the U.k because of racism.

83% believe the Labour Party are not doing enough to support them

Anniebach Wed 23-Aug-17 09:40:48

Mazie, you need to accept Corbyn is not a sacred cow , not superman, not the second coming

nigglynellie Wed 23-Aug-17 07:26:21

A lot of people world wide hate Jews, and the UK is no different. Goodness only knows why, it's completely incomprehensible to me, but sadly if we're honest, it's as true now as it ever has been, and depressingly probably always will.

Chewbacca Wed 23-Aug-17 00:15:56

Well Maizie I provided a link at 21.29 but here it is again:

Well, I'm not getting any information; not even a link.

And as we're descending into a Corbyn hatefest again I'm out of here.

Goodnight

Petra, it is lack of love for his country and his belief in his outdated politics which causes him to fight to change the UK into a Venezuela or Cuba

Chewbacca Tue 22-Aug-17 22:28:23

May I add "because it's the decent thing for anyone who is in a position of influence to do "?

petra Tue 22-Aug-17 22:23:07

annie
@ 21.36 you posted: lack of honour, decency and love for his party.
I would like to add: lack of love for his country.

Good post Chewbacca

Maizie d

' I just hope that people who know more than I do about a topic can offer information that helps me to form a better opinion, or to see a problem from a different angle."

Plenty of voices , including Labour MP's , have expressed their opinions over the topic of anti semitism (plenty of threads have spoken about this in the past) but their voices only count if people are prepared to see a problem from a different angle.

Chewbacca Tue 22-Aug-17 21:55:55

No Maizie I don't expect problems to be solved by GNetters but this thread in particular (I haven't seen previous threads on this subject) has left me saddened and angry that some posters have been almost dismissive that antisemitism is again on the rise in the UK. There have been several posters who demanded examples of instances of antisemitism, as though they don't believe it does actually happen. Those are the same posters who are, quite rightly, outraged at the casual racism that exists. But for some reason, they seem unable or unwilling to accept the fact that Jews are afraid and have good reason to be so. Both I and Iam64 have given examples of antisemitism that has occurred in the Manchester area, where there is a large Jewish community.
I don't believe that brexit is to blame. I don't believe that the labour party is to blame either but I do believe that the labour party, and all other political parties, could be as outspoken and condemnatory of antisemitism as they are about racism. And as 83% of Jews feel the same way, maybe that should be taken on board by JC if he wants to be taken seriously as a politician of conscience.

Anniebach Tue 22-Aug-17 21:50:56

You have no need to judge me Mazie, I am not here to be judged.

MaizieD Tue 22-Aug-17 21:46:42

Yes, I realise that, Ab. It should shock anyone; but on the other hand, people have so many differing ways of viewing things that it's sometimes hard to know how valid their perceptions are without some understanding of what it is that is worrying them. And without examples I find it difficult to judge.

MaizieD Tue 22-Aug-17 21:41:32

Do we really expect to solve problems on Gnet, Chewbacca?

I just hope that people who know more than I do about a topic can offer information that helps me to form a better opinion, or to see a problem from a different angle.

(and to argue the toss a bit...)

Anniebach Tue 22-Aug-17 21:41:29

Mazie, it was the number 83% which shocked and upset me.

MaizieD Tue 22-Aug-17 21:38:18

We certainly have been here before, POGS.!

Yes, I believe you, Ab, but what convinces you that there has been a rise of anti-semitism in the LP (and, perhaps, that Chakrabarti's report was a whitewash)?

Chewbacca Tue 22-Aug-17 21:37:34

Depressing isn't it POGS. Same problems go round and round and nothing gets resolved. sad

Anniebach Tue 22-Aug-17 21:36:28

And interesting to see how easy for some to trust Corbyn until they are given proof of his lack of honour, decency and love for the party.

POGS Tue 22-Aug-17 21:29:07

Haven't we been here before? A few threads on the subject actually, here's just one for reference.

www.gransnet.com/forums/news_and_politics/a1224359-Anti-Semitism-in-Labour-Party-and-Universities

It's interesting sometimes to read 'old' threads and see how old thread subjects become current news once more from time to time, Rotherham, anti-semitism, Royal family etc. etc.

Chewbacca Tue 22-Aug-17 21:27:47

"Over 80 per cent of British Jews believe Labour is too tolerant of anti-Semitism within its ranks, poll finds
The poll also found that a further 65 per cent of respondents believe the Government does not do enough to protect British Jews, while 52 per cent said the Crown Prosecution Service could do more"

Anniebach Tue 22-Aug-17 21:25:19

Maizie, i heard the report on the news and was shocked ,i posted what had been reported , I was not invited to answer the survery but as I have said I am a Christian .

I am loyal to the party, the Labour Party, have never given up my membership even through the tough times.

Just some here like to make it so personal to defend the leader. Accept the following please

1. I do not hate Corbyn

2. I have never hated the party, always been loyal to the LABOUR party.

3. I do not trust Corbyn and Truly believe he wants to turn the party into a communist party under the guise of a socialist party.

MaizieD Tue 22-Aug-17 21:11:53

Deploring the actions of a State does not mean that you feel hatred for all the people who comprise the State.

lemongrove Tue 22-Aug-17 21:10:16

No, not the whole Party of course, but the present Labour Leadership, who were close to Hamas in the past, generally dislike Israel and the US ( or certainly give that impression)
And what happens at the top of any organisation does percolate down through the ranks.
