I think a woman only carriage would be a good idea particularly, and perhaps only in the evening. You can feel frighteningly vulnerable travelling on your own facing drunken often foul mouthed young people.

I missed out a quote from the Virgin website " If you book an Advance or First Class ticket, you'll automatically have a seat reserved" so presumably they had not bought a ticket in advance either.

The businessmen I heard of were a few years ago, DJ so the rules must have been tightened. My other point still remains -they would not have been tied into one train by booking seats on it so their taking that particular 11 am train must have been either a spur-of the-moment decision. That is unlikely for the whole group of them at once, which would need some co-ordination. So it must have been either a group decision to travel without booking to prove a point, or they were disorganised enough to miss a previous one on which they were booked.

So the choice is between a group who are not organised enough to catch the train they were supposed to, or a group who plan a photo-opportunity on a packed train by displaying the leader of the opposition humbly sitting on the dirty floor.

So when you buy a ticket for a 3 hour train journey you are not entitled to a seat. If that is the case Virgin should make that clear on all their advertising. I have yet to see anything saying this. All I see is Branson lying about seats.

My grandson at times has to travel from Cardiff to the London office, always a booked seat

I think most people are aware that the trains are overcrowded most of the time, so if you want to make sure of a seat, then book it in advance, leave enough time to get to the station to catch that train and you will have a seat for your journey. Quite easy really, my 16 year old granddaughter can do it, and does, - on her own!!

( so the booked seats would have had to have been on one even earlier than 11 - talk about belt and braces.)

And I have known businessmen who routinely booked seats on certain days and times, (Friday afternoons for example) when they had no idea whether they would be catching that train or not, so Corbyn & co would not have been obliged to take a specific train just because they had seats booked.

But I don't know why I am even bothering to post on this thread - it is one of the most futile in the whole series of timewasters on political topics.
