EXCLUSIVE: New CCTV footage reveals Jeremy Corbyn told truth about 'Traingate'

I think someone owes Corbyn an apology. It won't happen of course but at least this may balance the story the owners of the news wanted us to hear.

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 00:35:48

I saw that, GracesGran.
I wonder why it took so long to be released.

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 00:40:04

Technical difficulties, eh?

GracesGranMK2 Thu 24-Aug-17 07:43:36

... and seven months before they even released the full tape! I think the papers should be forced to apologise but they wont of course.

whitewave Thu 24-Aug-17 07:58:02

Is anyone surprised?

I wonder what the next load of hysteria will be about? grin

Still, it gives the gullable and right wing something to talk about!

minesaprosecco Thu 24-Aug-17 08:44:11

Any comments from the Corbyn detractors?

Primrose65 Thu 24-Aug-17 10:15:52

It's not new footage though. It's the footage from Yannis Mendez published on his youtube channel. He's just trying to punt the same story around and none of the papers will touch him as they were burnt last time. The Guardian had to print an apology and said they misled their readers using his 'gonzo news release'.

Corbyn is recruiting a new video journalist - he won't use him again because of his screw ups. Believe whatever you want. No one is going to apologise for a PR stunt that went wrong.

whitewave Thu 24-Aug-17 10:17:04

grin oh I do believe what I want.

Anniebach Thu 24-Aug-17 10:25:59

Took a year ?

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 10:31:17

So all the other people who were on the train were lying, were they?

I went down to York from Durham on a train last week.
Virgin train on the way down. Five of us all with reserved seats. My son and his wife had to stand all the way because there were people sitting in their seats, and they didn't have the heart to ask them to move as they were elderly.
We asked two other people to move so that my grandchildren could sit next to each other. There were lots of other people sitting on their suitcases in the doorways. We got on at one end of the train and walked down to the other, and there were no seats, but people with cases in every doorway.
I didn't take photos, as I wasn't aware this would come up again, but sometimes it looked as though there were empty seats until you reached them and found small people sitting in them.

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 10:47:07

The person who has shown the video this time was a comedian travelling on the same train, called Simon Lukacs, who agreed with Corbyn. There was a mother called Ellen with her two children who also agreed with Corbyn.

The reason it took so long is because it took Virgin seven months to sent the requested CCTV footage, which arrived without dates and times. They then had to request that, and put the two together.
Why would Virgin need to remove times and dates from the original?

Sorry I have to write all this because those who don't want to believe have not looked at the video, have they?

I really do hope Annie will stop using Traingate as a reason to call Corbyn a liar on every thread.

Anniebach Thu 24-Aug-17 10:55:31

Nop

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 10:57:34

So are we allowed to call you a liar, Annie, because now you know he wasn't lying about that journey?
I do hope the next time you go on a train you can't get a seat, either.

Anniebach Thu 24-Aug-17 11:00:29

How do you know this tape hasn't been edited , and no you cannot call me a liar , I don't lie

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 11:02:19

You are lying when you call Corbyn a liar about Traingate.

Primrose65 Thu 24-Aug-17 11:05:59

Why has the Guardian not run his new story? They're very sympathetic to Corbyn, to rail overcrowding.
Perhaps they know something you don't dj
The more interesting question is why posters seem to believe what Mendez is saying. Why do you think he's a reliable source of journalism gg?

whitewave Thu 24-Aug-17 11:15:00

Dear oh dear

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 11:15:20

I think the other people who were on the train are reliable souces of information.
Why don't you, primrose?

No Jen, you cannot call me a liar based on a video which could have been tampered with

durhamjen Thu 24-Aug-17 11:21:15

What, Annie!!! Virgin tampered with it!

Anniebach Thu 24-Aug-17 11:22:33

New evidence ? A year on?

Baggs Thu 24-Aug-17 12:17:37

I have travelled recently on Virgin trains between Glasgow and Manchester. On each occasion there were people on the platforms being told they couldn't get on the train because they hadn't booked a seat. I also heard the train guard/conductor saying over the tannoy while the train was moving that two coaches were for people who had not booked seats.

This seems to me to be confusing and disjointed information from Virgin. Perhaps the company is particularly good at that.

There were several different versions of the Traingate story at the time giving points of view supportive of and critical of Corbyn and his train team from which, if one cared to, one could make one's own mind up about the truth. I doubt if anything turning up now is going to change anyone's mind.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 24-Aug-17 12:28:53

Annie your logic is of a new species. You are prepared to believe the spin you get from the right wing press but not prepared to say you may have been wrong when other evidence is produced. You may have been you know.
