Has anyone picked up on anything from this so far.

I like the idea of taxing wealth rather than income - it needs rebalancing. The only other thing I have heard is changing the student 'loans' to a student tax which makes more sense to me too.

I think it is already essentially a graduate tax.

I do not agree with all the LD's policies but like Vince Cable's style - non-combative and containing common sense.

I did hear someone on the early part of 'Today' (while I was still half asleep!) talking about taxing graduates further back but I was not sure who he was speaking on behalf of.

I think you are right about it being like a tax but calling it a tax instead of a loan would make a big difference psychologically.

I think that at the moment Vince Cable 'does no harm'. I will be interested to see what he can do.

What do you mean by taxing 'wealth'?

It's not me Jane it's the thoughts of the LDs which I thought sounded interesting. The idea appears to be the alignment of CGT with income tax. This chimes, for me, with the idea that you should not be able to make more money living on capital than you can by your labour.
