Great musician. If you scratch the surface you realise how many great hits he had or was directly involved in. Sad loss on a terrible day for USA.

Sad. I only know of him because of his connection with George Harrison, who I loved. RIP Tom.

Another great talent, quite young too. Who can forget the sublime "Free Falling"

I also have never heard of him- I am more Queen and Rolling Stones.

Sad news - he was only 66.

So sad to learn of Tom Petty's death. Another one of the greats. So talented. Sadly I never got to see him in concert, imagine how would have been fantastic.

No he’s definitely gone

I really wanted to see him in London. Always respect the way that, when, at the start of his career a record label wanted him but not his band, he said it had to be all of them or none at all. And, give or take a drummer or two, the line up remained the same. One of the all time greats; I never tire of his music.

I saw Tom Petty in the 90's and always hoped to be able to see him again.
