I still feel that Brexit is wrong though have no idea how stop it. We get mixed messages on the negotiations, DD says that are going fine but the EU side says otherwise.

There was a protest in Manchester where Lib. Dems., European Movement. Open Britain and other groups made their feelings clear.

Our democracy and standard of living is under threat from dogmatism on both the left and the right.

Who is shocked by the DM anti university story and who agrees with it, I wonder?

durhamjen Thu 26-Oct-17 12:06:51

I think you'd better tell Butterfly Conservation of that myth, Maizie. Peacock larvae are only on stinging nettle, although occasionally can be found on hops if there are no stinging nettles.

www.politico.eu/article/ivan-rogers-brexit-uk-screwed-in-brexit-negotiations-says-ex-ambassador/

This is brilliant.

whitewave Thu 26-Oct-17 12:25:23

I don’t know about brilliant. This government needs its ass kicked.

I think the biggest lesson Brexit has taught me is just how incompetent, winging on their asses, know bugger all load of MPs and government we have. I shall never again respect any of them.

whitewave Thu 26-Oct-17 12:58:42

According to Davis, Maybot has not read the reports on how Brexit will hit the economy, only the headlines.

He is talking about the secret reports that the government won’t release.

Perhaps some kind soul will leak them?

durhamjen Thu 26-Oct-17 13:06:55

It's brilliant because Rogers is telling us how incompetent they are.

petra Thu 26-Oct-17 13:18:15

The article by Rogers also tells us that the eu want to screw us.
I'm sure you read that part durhamjen but forgot to put it in your post.

whitewave Thu 26-Oct-17 13:33:27

Of course they do petra I would be astounded if they didn’t, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that our government is beyond useless.

suzied Thu 26-Oct-17 13:58:37

I’m sure Brexiters will blame the EU for the uselessness of our government ....

durhamjen Thu 26-Oct-17 13:58:59

It said that in the title, petra. Difficult not to read it.

In the meantime, the Daily Mail continue to peddle its campaign of demonisation of foreigners sad.

Here is a great letter (given permission to share) to them:

Dear Sirs

I observed your headlines and content on Twitter. The Daily Mail owners distribute disgraceful untruths hate and xenophobia on a routine basis. You appeal to populist notions of Nationalism and Patriotism to drive your own unpalatable agendas of racism xenophobia and nostalgia for Empire. It is factual that educational achievement is more associated with Remain voting. However Universities teach critical thinking based on evidence and facts not shallow headlines. This country is being seriously damaged in part by your influences. Amongst many other characteristics of emerging fascism, you are promoting selective populism, suppression of critical thinking, obsession with the 'plot', as you see it, against 'brexit', and the tradition of British Empire. All of this as you well realise is the antithesis of providing critical journalism. But you know that dont you?

Yours sincerely

Dr Doug Bannatyne

jura2 Thu 26-Oct-17 14:09:40

Stasi, anyone?

petra Thu 26-Oct-17 14:47:10

If the Daily Mail Is as influential as Dr Bannatyne suggests, why don't we have more UKIP MPs ?

durhamjen Thu 26-Oct-17 15:47:11

infacts.org/re-leavers-start-believe-brexit-can-stopped/

Remainers seeing sense.

durhamjen Thu 26-Oct-17 15:48:05

Because the Sun and the Times have more influence than the Fail.

durhamjen Thu 26-Oct-17 15:49:22

He doesn't say it has THAT much influence; just influence.

durhamjen Thu 26-Oct-17 16:41:49

A university professor's response to the teaching of Brexit.

In case clicking on it doesn't work too well.

Tegan2 Thu 26-Oct-17 19:20:30

Whilst having my neverending clearout I found a newspaper article about David Hare who had been writing about Margaret Thatcher. It said 'she has brought them relief in a confusing world; she's absolved them from worrying about other people's lives'. Seems to ring true today, doesn't it [imo]?

Cindersdad Thu 26-Oct-17 20:34:07

This morning I met a LEAVE voter who when asked why said. "They want a United States of Europe." This he likened to the Tower of Babel saying that Brexit was God's way of getting humanity back into line. Well I thought I'd heard it all but obviously not.

Even more depressing I picked up a copy of the Daily Star left lying on the Train and read the letters page. I thought that editors were at least supposed to make sure that any letters printed were coherent. If they are typical then the EU could be better off if we left. Needless to say the comments ranted mainly about us Remoaners. I'm prepared to argue the case for remain but how can you argue against such a low base.

durhamjen Thu 26-Oct-17 21:31:12

www.globaljustice.org.uk/news/2017/oct/10/parliament-be-shut-out-post-brexit-trade-deals

For anyone who is worried about trade deals after Brexit.
globaljustice are asking as many people as possible to write to Fox to let him know that you want parliament as a whole to have some say in trade deals.

lemongrove Thu 26-Oct-17 21:35:11

What’s the point of reading rags and then complaining about the content? You know full well what sort of letters they will print.
The real point cindersdad is to realise that there are ignoramus sorts on both sides, and not to mistakenly think of the referendum results as a sort of saints and sinners contest.

durhamjen Thu 26-Oct-17 21:39:48

Do you never pick up a copy of the Times or the Guardian when they are at the doctors or on a train, lemon?

Sorry, but even Brexiteers are fast coming to the realisation that they are sinners. No saints on that side.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 26-Oct-17 21:51:57

I think we recognise some of the ignoramuses Lemon.

lemongrove Thu 26-Oct-17 21:58:32

I can certainly see a few here!
