This vid says a lot. Especially why the EU finds our government's attitude so incomprehensible

The ECJ has helped many of the UK workers by insisting that we keep workers rights.
I am sure many brexiteers wouldn't have voted to get rid of their rights.
When even the UN is saying that May is treating the disabled abysmally, they would realise the importance of the ECJ, IF THEY WERE TOLD HOW IMPORTANT IT IS.

whitewave Tue 10-Oct-17 11:05:38

Oh cardiff that is absolutely NOT the case.

CardiffJaguar Tue 10-Oct-17 11:04:10

In many cases yes. The legal side alone is a threat that many people do not know about because that has not been explained. Essentially the EU with the ECJ wants to take over all our legal system meaning we would no longer have our own laws.

Listening to Theresa May and the subsequent discussion this afternoon, followed by the commentary on radio and TV it appears they are getting very prepared for the cliff edge. Is that really what ALL the people who voted leave wanted?

durhamjen Mon 09-Oct-17 18:56:39

I've just seen this.

Interesting.

Or at least the dualling of the A1.

gillybob Mon 09-Oct-17 18:09:01

I don't want independence Paddyann just fairness . I still believe we're all better together and better IN the EU too .

This is the full response from the department, which says that it recognises there is public interest.

Again the PM has just said that the British people voted, but without the information that the DexEU has.
I am surprised that other MPs are not labouring this point.

durhamjen Mon 09-Oct-17 17:47:33

The DexEU has agreed that it has the information about the impact studies on Brexit, but will not release it.

mollymep.org.uk/2017/09/26/foi-response-dexeu/

How can voters decide what the truth is when they are not told.

www.24housing.co.uk/news/benefits-freeze-would-create-half-a-million-more-people-in-poverty/

Just another half million. What's that compared to a few rich people sending billions offshore, to banks that used to be employing people in the UK?

GracesGranMK2 Mon 09-Oct-17 16:12:26

I think anyone who voted Conservative should be hiding their head in shame gillybob, if they are complaining about University Fees, anything to do with the NHS, Fuel, Water, etc., etc., You voted in a government that believes the 'business' model is the one and only way of running everything in our lives - I am surprised they are not suggesting some sort of transaction charge for married couples having sex - and not only the business model and nothing else, but the unfettered business model working towards no rules, regulations or return to society.

Capitalism may have some things going for it but treating it like a religion is not great for the majority of people.

I would have expected more signatures on this petition by now.

"The government claimed last week to have made one of the first big breakthroughs in Brexit-related talks, in the form of a preliminary agreement between the UK and EU on World Trade Organisation quotas. However, this was quickly undermined when the Trump administration joined a group of countries objecting to the deal as far as it related to agricultural quotas. This Financial Times article suggests that this is a sign of how the US and others plan to use Brexit to force the UK to open up access to its markets to agricultural goods from third countries far more than it wants - even before it agrees any new trade deals with such countries."
Can't link to the FT article, but this looks very worrying.

I don't normally agree with Grayling, but I do here.

Paddyann, I was reading today that tuition fees cost the government more now that they have increased them to £9000 than they did when they were just £3000 a year.
IFS research says that the system is "more expensive to the taxpayer than it would have been if there had been no changes in 2011".
They can't blame Labour for that.

paddyann Mon 09-Oct-17 14:34:24

gillybob haven't you yourselves to blame for the situation re tuition fees etc ? You voted for a government that opposes these things..we in Scotland voted for a government thats left of centre ..thats interested in the people who put them in power. They work FOR us not against us as the tories are doing .This is SUPPOSED to be a union ...although it wasn't ever what the people of Scotland wanted we were signed up to a UNION ...equal apparently ...though thats not what it turned out to be .Please fight for ENGLISH independence and let us get n with running our country OUR way...which has never been the tory way

whitewave Mon 09-Oct-17 14:28:24

The most important talks ever, -talks that are stalling and Davis can’t be bothered to turn up. What are we paying him for?

gillybob Mon 09-Oct-17 13:03:19

London is not England though grannygranby . Yes I agree all of the money is there, but what about the rest of us?
Those of us who don't benefit from the wealth of London or the free prescriptions, tuition fees etc. enjoyed by Scotland etc.

It seems we are completely forgotten.

whitewave Mon 09-Oct-17 12:50:16

Apparently the Treasury have found billions to be used in case of a bad Brexit - blimey and they were worried about what is paid to the EU.

whitewave Mon 09-Oct-17 12:33:05

That was a good article dj

What I find really bizarre is that so much is being published about the argument for reasons for staying in EU, with very, very little being published about the reasons for withdrawing. None of it makes sense and leaves me utterly bewildered as to the mindset of Brexiters.

I can’t believe that they are all being fooled by the lies, that they are willing to believe all the propaganda given out by the wealthy hedge fund managers and tax avoiders -for they are the only ones who stand to benefit.

varian Mon 09-Oct-17 12:22:00

So many people all over the world agree with you, grannygranby. Here's just one:-

grannygranby Mon 09-Oct-17 11:40:17

facts o people. England makes up 85% of UK and already has the lions share of everything. London dominates England - even the UK. It is also the richest because all the money is there. Of course you shouldn't let it be independent, it has responsibilities along with all its rights. It's just a waste of space and energy to get involved with such silliness. EXIT BREXIT is not at all silly and it is worth the fight in buckets.
